(Arata)
That had to be the oddest interview ever. I stared at him for a few more seconds than was necessary, in case he was joking.
He wasn't.
He picked up a file from the side and opened it, directing his eyes to it, ignoring my existence.
I was still trying to wrap my mind around what he had said. His assertive tone wasn't condescending when he spoke again but it reminded that he absolutely ant every word he had spoken.
"You have 14 minutes and 23 seconds left. Are you going to waste them by staring at ? I won't give extra ti for that." He flipped the page with his long fingers and continued to read the file.
How did he even asure the exact ti? The man was a mystery and I had to tear my eyes off him. The knots tightened further as I stood up and excused myself. He gave a curt nod, still keeping his eyes on the page he was reading.
I rushed out of his office, clutching my file and bag. Where was I going to find a blue tie and a coffee in 14 minutes?
That was called crisis managent and this was the first step. To make contacts and learn how to handle situations where random tasks were thrown at you.
Luckily, Miranda was still waiting for outside as I erged like a tornado of disasters, file slipping from my slimy hands.
She gave a sympathetic look as the door clicked shut behind and compassionately asked.
"How much ti and what tasks?"
So she knew his thods. Of course, she did. She seed to have been with him for a while.
"Black coffee and blue tie," I blurted out expectantly.
A wave of relief passed over her face as if it was not a crisis-ridden situation.
"Lucky girl. Follow , I will help." She turned and began to head down the corridor. I followed trying for my silly heart to stop hamring so loudly. She frantically began to type on her work tablet.
"How?" I asked slightly baffled at why she called lucky.
Miranda let out a bubbly giggle. It brightened her beautiful face.
"Because to the last few girls he asked for a coffee; his favourite drink. His health smoothie, which is a pain to make and a limited edition of his favourite book, 'The Picture of Dorian Grey.' No one passes his tests but, you girl." She turned to face and winked with her long lashes kissing her upper cheeks. "You got a chance."
It was like she was eager to help and hire , almost too eager. Maybe she needed soone to share the burden of working under such a demanding boss.
"Is he always like that?" I asked, following her inside what seed like a modern kitchen.
She quickly approached a black lacquered cabinet and extracted a charcoal marble cup with a pitcher. Approaching the coffee machine lying on the raven-shaded kitchen island, she paused and said.
"He is very particular about the tasks, but there is a heart inside there; one just has to find it." She ushered forward. "Here, this is where you will always get his coffee. Rember no sugar, he doesn't like coffee from expensive brands. He imports these coffee beans from the heart of Jamaica. That's the only coffee he consus and he is very particular about it. Luckily, I have already prepared for today, so it will save you ti."
Entitled much. Even I drank coffee from anywhere as long as it was drinkable. But Mr CEO had to have his own. I wished to roll my eyes but restrained myself.
Seeing look slightly overwheld, she leaned in and placed her hand on my shoulder.
"Don't worry, I will teach you." I gave her an appreciative nod.
The hot brewed coffee sat in the pot. I placed my bag and the file on the marble surface. Picking it up from the handle, I poured it into the heavy cup Miranda had given .
What was with this man and the colour black?
Was he the devil in disguise?
Shaking my head I concentrated on the task. The door knocked and Miranda permitted entrance.
A boy almost my age with straight blonde hair, obviously dyed, and a cheeky smile, entered carrying a box in his hand. He waved the box in front of Miranda. She must have texted him.
"Sales departnt here to save the day. Who is the lucky girl?"
Miranda almost snatched the box from his hand and introduced.
"Chan, et Arata. Arata, this is Chan from the Sales Departnt. He always keeps ties around." He flirtatiously smiled and extended his hand towards .
I balanced the coffee cup in my left hand and extended my right towards him, shaking it.
"Happy to save the pretty lady." He winked and Miranda rolled her eyes.
"Beware! Arata, he flirts with everyone," she warned, extending the blue velvet box towards and reminding I was on the clock.
"Thank you! I appreciate this," I politely answered, my nerves acting up again.
"Go go, we are rooting for you. Rember to agree to whatever he says." Miranda called before , and Chan sent two thumbs up, jerking his body forward rather dramatically.
I hurried back, with hot coffee in one hand and the box containing the blue tie in the other. I quickly glanced at my watch and saw that I still had two minutes. I hurried up and reached the massive door to his office.
Pausing....I took a deep breath...and let my body relax. Sothing my father had taught . He was a patient man and always emphasised its importance in our lives.
Using the box I pressed the blue rose again.
Silence followed as I held my breath waiting for his permission to enter.
The jerk took his sweet ti to answer and almost made wait an entire minute.
"Asshole!" I cursed under my breath and finally, his deep voice ca through.
"Enter!"
Using my elbow I pushed open his door and stumbled inside, rather awkwardly.
This was going to be a nightmare.
