(Zyair)

Who was this boy?

And why did he appear so similar to Doran?

Could it be a coincidence?

A little more digging into the old photographs of the company and I found his na.

Ronald Whittle.

I knew Doran had no siblings, so he couldn’t be directly related to him.

Maybe a son of a first cousin?

It was ti to dig deep.

Turning towards Kail, I said.

"Kail, I want you to find out whatever you can about this Ranold Whittle."

Kail instantly nodded and set to work.

I was now on the threshold of losing my mind. The wheels of my mind twisted as I planned my next move.

The kidnapper had given a deadline of tomorrow. We needed to find Arata before that or I would have to reveal a secret we had guarded for 25 years.

I didn’t mind; nothing was more important to than my daughter, but I didn’t trust her kidnapper. There was no surety he would let her go even with revealing what we had done.

And he was smart, he knew that I wouldn’t go to the police with this information.

The Detective Pimber’s call brought my attention back to my phone. Swiping on it, I quickly picked up.

"Detective Pimber speaking," his rough voice ca through.

"Yes! Any progress?" The anticipation of having any news related to my daughter made my heart beat faster.

"Actually, yes. We have received the data from Arata’s cell phone. It seems like there is soone called Ranold Whittle at her company. That’s the last person she spoke to and asked to et up. We are still following up on this and will keep you posted on whatever we find."

My ears buzzed at this new piece of information.

That was a twist. I just told Kail to figure out more information about Ranold, and now it turned out he was the last person Arata had spoken to and went to et before disappearing.

Could it be that Karsten had used Ranold to kidnap Arata?

They worked together, right? They could be accomplices.

"So, will you be checking out his house as well because my daughter is running out of ti?" I wanted to scream at the detective but I kept my composure and only gripped my thigh with my free hand.

"We will need a search warrant from the judge for that. He is a person of interest right now. The call company inford us that soone did try to hack into their system recently, most likely to either erase data or steal data. So we are waiting on that too. Once they track down the IP address of the person trying to hack into their servers, they will inform us. If the information matches, we will make a move against Ranold Whittle."

That ant they were going to do nothing but wait. Arata might not have enough ti.

"And how long will that take?" I asked, trying to control the rage inside .

"It may take a further day or two," the Detective calmly answered.

Karsten had already vanished and Ranold would too if we didn’t do sothing. It was ti to take matters into our own hands. Because the police were going to go by the book.

"I would appreciate it if you sped up the process."

"Your daughter’s case is our top priority right now. We are working day and night and will continue to do sothing until we find her. Please, keep your faith intact in us." Detective Pimber ended the call after that but I wasn’t satisfied.

I turned to Kail and inford him of the situation. He scratched the back of his bald head and said.

"I see. Here, see this."

He had gathered so information regarding Ranold, so he handed his phone with his lips pursed tight. I should have been shocked but nothing was phasing anymore.

My eyes couldn’t believe what they were reading.

Ranold was the son of Karen Whittle, Doran’s lover and secretary. That proved that Karen must have been pregnant with Doran’s child when he abducted Skyla or beca pregnant during that ti.

This explained why Karen was let out of jail and disappeared. It also shed light on the reason why her whereabouts were kept a secret from us.

Did she make a life of herself and raised her son to seek revenge?

Did Karsten know who they were?

Did they give him so made-up story and seek his help in this ssed-up sche?

"So it seed like she raised a child just for revenge. I wonder if she knows what we did?" Kail asked but without any fear. It was more out of curiosity.

I shook my head. "It’s highly unlikely, I am guessing they just speculate we did sothing to Doran. Since, you know he was never found."

Kail nodded. No hesitation on his face. "So should I prepare?"

"Yes, we are getting my daughter back. One way or the other, even if that’s the last thing I do," I grimly answered, the pain in my heart kept intensifying.

That bloodied picture of her face spiralled in my brain and I didn’t have enough courage left in to receive another one of such pictures.

"We will get Arata back. Keep the faith." He got up and thumped my shoulder.

"Whatever happens, just get my daughter out." Kail offered an assuring nod and left the room.

I was left lost in this new reality. Skyla would freak out hearing that Karen and Doran had a child together. I knew he ant nothing to her now but they were married for nine years.

My phone rang and my eyes dipped to check the caller ID.

It was Lawrence.

"Hey! How are you? Any progress? I just found out from Skyla. Man, you should have told . I am so sorry." He sounded to be in pain as he blurted out words after words.

I had been so wrapped up in trying to find her that I hadn’t been able to contact anyone.

"I know, but my mind is too occupied. We are getting close. Hopefully, I will have answers soon," I answered, staring outside my hotel window.

It had begun to snow, little flakes falling from the sky, turning everything white and gloomy.

"I am coming to Marica City. You need ," he announced in his unrelenting spirit.

My hand agitatedly rubbed my stubbled chin.

"No, Lawrence. Stay back, Skyla needs you. Keep her company and ensure she doesn’t spiral. Please," I requested, my fingers aching from the burn of clutching the phone too tightly.

"I got you, man. You know that. Bring Arata ho, and if you need anything, just call. You are not alone." Lawrence had always been there with just like Kail.

"I appreciate you, Lawrence." Before my voice would break, I ended the call.

My eyes stared blankly at the snow.

Tonight, we were going to sneak into that bastard’s house and get my daughter. My sixth sense was telling that Ranold was the one who took her.

I didn’t care about the police or the rules.

My phone rang again and I noticed it was an unknown number. My jaw instantly tightened as rage descended in my eyes. I could bet it was him again.

Swiping on the screen, I accepted the call and said.

"Who is this?" To my surprise, it was Karsten.

"Mr Kincaid, I want you to listen to before hanging up or cursing . Just listen."

There was this pleading and guilt in his voice but it only made angrier.

The fucker had done what to my daughter. Who knew?

eting her dressed like so satanic ritualist in those stupid skull masks.

Who did he think he was?

"You have so nerve, calling ..." I blazed in anger, unable to control myself.

"I don’t have your daughter. I would never harm her. It’s a misunderstanding, the one I am going to rectify. But I know where she is. Please! Just trust ," he pleaded.

What new ga was he playing?

"You have not given a single reason to trust you. Like a coward, you ran away from your ho, and you want to believe you have nothing to do with Arata getting taken," I blazed.

"I know, but I am being frad. Before this day ends. I promise I will bring your daughter to you, and the real culprit will be brought to justice. The truth will be open for everyone to see," his voice ca.

"I am strong enough to find her on my own. And once I do, I will be coming for you next, Karsten. I don’t care who you are and what you are, but I will not let even your shadow pass over my daughter. Whatever you had going with her, ends here."

Shaking, I thought, ’How dare he try to fool ?’

But then he said what I had already figured out, and I wondered if he was being truthful or just trying to fool .
