(Karsten)
The Doctor’s words were like a relief for . No broken bones ant she would heal faster, and there would be less pain.
Once the doctor had left, I turned to her and solemnly said.
"I don’t think it’s advisable or even viable for you to travel in this condition."
I believe she was already on the edge, and hearing that she wouldn’t be able to go made all the reasoning fly out the window.
Her face flushed with anger, and I braced myself for the incoming rage storm.
"That’s what you wanted, right. I am sure you had been secretly hoping that sothing like this would happen so you could keep prisoner here and not let visit my family," she seethed in rage.
I stood closer to her and picked up the quilt, covering her body with it, not even reacting to what she had said.
Knowing her, it was so easy to see she was trying to instigate , so I decided to choose silence and not even glance at her.
But my jaw locked tighter than before. I just adjusted the quilt so she wouldn’t be cold.
Wrapping her arms tighter around herself, she tried to shrink and scowl at .
I moved towards the couch, picking up the pillow and the quilt, and I hid them in the closet. No one needed to know I was sleeping there.
After accomplishing that mission, I had to wake Ma and Asbela up so they could give her company while I made soup.
Pausing near the door, I placed my hand on the knob and calmly said.
"I wanted you to visit your family. I am not so cruel as to keep soone from their loved ones. Just heal, and then you can go. No one will stop you."
Opening the door, I exited my room before she could respond, taking long strides to reach Ma’s room. The dawn was breaking, and I knew she would be up.
Knocking softly, I waited for her to open the door.
She eased the door open and was left slightly surprised to see standing there.
"Karsten! So early. What is it?"
I offered her a frustrated huff. "Arata twisted her ankle. Can you go check on her?"
Her surprise moulded into worry as she quickly said and stepped out of the room.
"Oh no! Is she alright?"
"She is in pain and could use so female company. Her family is not here, so she tends to get sad at tis."
Ma understood and patted my shoulder.
"I got this. Leave your tensions to ." She made her way towards the staircase while I took out my cell phone and dialled Asbela.
After waking her up, I called Olphi, and as soon as he picked up, I ordered.
"My bathroom door broke, get it fixed. Arrange the Christmas Tree for the living room."
"It will be done," Olphi calmly said.
After ending the call with Olphi, my next destination was the kitchen. It was empty, no breakfast preparation had begun so far.
Opening the cabinet, I chose a pot and set it on the stove. Adding water, veggies and chicken, I began preparing a soup for her.
Asbela entered the kitchen, and her eyes widened as she spotted the boiling pot on the electric stove.
"Master, I can do it. You don’t have to bother with cooking."
"No, I will prepare the soup for Arata. You just need to take it upstairs for her. Rember, to feed her all of it and give her dicine Dr Haines had left for her."
She nodded at with concerns swimming in her eyes.
"Take care of Arata. No sloppiness in her care will be tolerated by . Get her anything she needs or asks for."
I passed her a bunch of instructions, and she calmly listened to all of them.
Once the soup was prepared, Asbela handed a soup bowl and I poured the thick liquid until the bowl was brimming with it.
Handing it to Asbela, I instructed again.
"Not a drop should be left, Asbela."
"I will ensure she eats all of it." She took the bowl and rushed upstairs.
Taking out my phone, I made so calls. Today was supposed to be our last working day before the holiday week, but I decided to stay ho and let Ranold handle the task.
The idiot picked up on the third bell.
"Hey! I won’t be coming to the office today, as Arata twisted her ankle. Properly see everyone off and wrap up the remaining projects?"
"Hello!" He sleepily answered. "Oh, is she badly hurt?"
"Thankfully, no, but I am not going to take any chances. She will remain in bed for a week."
I revealed while fixing myself a coffee.
"Gotcha! I will visit on Christmas. Will et Camilla." I could hear him yawn on the other end. He and Ma always had a very friendly relationship.
"Will see you then." I ended the call and took my coffee mug to head out and sit near the fireplace in my armchair and sip my coffee in peace.
The orangish crackling fire was warm as it softly purred. I wished it would warm my heart, too, where an insane amount of darkness and cold resided. Staring at the flas, I let the bitterness of coffee calm my nerves.
The chef soon arrived, and I instructed him to prepare all kinds of breakfast dishes. Arata needed to eat properly, and even if I had to take Ma’s assistance to feed her, I would.
Olphi arrived with the Christmas tree, and I told him to place it in the living room. The fresh pine sll invaded my senses as I took in the rich green colour of the tree. The needles seed firm, revealing that the tree had been freshly cut.
Ma would love decorating it later.
After finishing my coffee, I headed upstairs to check on the ladies and let them know breakfast would be ready soon.
The cackling laughter welcod as I opened the door.
"Oh! He was always scowling as if I had sinned by giving birth to him," Ma jokingly told Arata and Asbela, and both snickered. Arata’s eyes slithered and found , and that smile didn’t fade.
Seed like Ma was keeping them entertained with my childhood stories. She loved telling everyone what a grumpy child I used to be.
