(Arata)

With eyes closed, I was lost in slling Callia and Christmas roses from the bouquet when soone crept right close to . He began asking personal questions about the kind of relationship Karsten and I shared.

The words stung, poisonous and deep. Pain erupted on my face as my eyes sharply opened and automatically went to the man seated opposite , responsible for this heartbreak.

Karsten’s expression had gone from smooth to raging in a second as he sent a death stare towards the reporter who had sneaked into the restaurant to get himself so story for Christmas.

"Don’t you have anything better to do than sneak up on people in their free ti?" Karsten asked, glaring at the man with his hands tightly fisted. I knew he was barely containing himself.

The man shalessly smiled. "Just a few questions. I won’t take much of your ti and a few pictures." The phone in his hand turned towards as he clicked, and I knew he had taken a picture without my permission.

Aghast at his action, my anger surged. Before I could stand up and give him a piece of my mind, Karsten moved like a flash of light. His hand snatched the phone from the man as he hurled it to the ground, stomping his boot on the screen in a blinding rage.

The man gasped and tried to move, but Karsten grabbed him from the collar, yanking him forward as if he weighed like paper.

The rage, the fury, the insanity mingled on Karsten’s face.

"How dare you encroach on our privacy?" The punch ca, lightning fast, and the sound of bone breaking echoed around us. His nose shot out blood as the man scread in pain.

Camilla silently watched with smug satisfaction while I tried to move towards Karsten.

The security of the restaurant and the servers gathered too, trying to take the man away from Karsten’s ironclad grip, but he refused to let go.

So much rage had descended on his face and in his eyes that I barely recognised him.

"Get him out of my sight." Karsten finally pushed him away after requests and appeals from the staff. The man had blood all over his face as he was quickly escorted out, and I knew this would co to haunt us.

Camilla sat confidently with one hand elegantly draped over the other, watching the show. She only said.

"Ese carbón tuvo lo que se maracó." (Fucker got what he deserved.)

My hand was on my mouth as I watched Karsten struggle to regain control he had lost. His obsidian-like hollow eyes drifted towards as he seethed out.

"We are leaving."

I nodded while he helped Camilla out of her seat.

The manager of the place arrived, the panic so visible on his face as he tried to forcefully smile amidst the crisis.

"I apologise, Mr Karsten. We had no idea he was a reporter and would disturb your family."

Karsten gave him a sharp, agitated look as Camilla took his arm.

"I valued your place because it respected my need for privacy, but such a breach when I was here with my family. I don’t think I can dine here again. We are leaving." He began to move with rapid steps while Camilla appeared smug, holding her son’s arm and staring at the manager.

"Your security has disappointed us," she said with a shake of her head.

The manager tried to plead his case, but no one was ready to listen to him. Angrily and hungry, we left the restaurant. But to our surprise, a few more reporters were waiting outside, and they had seen the other journalist being led out with a broken nose.

Like vultures, they attacked us with a tirade of questions, shoving mics in our faces.

"Olphi, take Ma," Karsten sternly ordered.

Olphi and the restaurant security guarded Camilla and us from the onslaught of reporters.

Instantly, Karsten’s arm protectively slipped around my waist as he shielded with his body and arms.

A hand with a mic was shoved in my face, almost hitting my cheek, and he shoved it away with a growl.

Like a comforter, he kept glued to his side and safe. My treacherous eyes slid up to watch him. Darkness and anger had clouded his expression as he helped settle down in the car.

Question after question was thrown at us while caras flashed, trying to click our private pictures. I swear the dia people were the most annoying assholes in the entire entertainnt industry.

The blatant refusal to respect soone’s privacy pissed off.

"Are you alright?" He asked, his voice bathed in concern, and I only nodded.

Once we had settled in the car, Olphi drove us away before they could cause any more damage.

"I should have punched all of them," Karsten snarled, and I could feel his wrath through his voice.

"Imbeciles and bastards," Camilla spat out, and I understood she had been through her share of bad press.

"They are a nuisance. Once they almost destroyed the lives of my parents," I heavily breathed out, and her head turned to watch .

"Oh! I can imagine. Your family na is Zyair?" She asked, seeming a bit lost. Last ti we t, I had refrained from dwelling on my family because I was hiding my identity at that ti.

"Yes, Zyair Kincaid is my father, and Skyla Zyair is my mother." I knew Camilla lived very far away from Angel City, and she might not have heard of them, but my parents were famous in the fashion industry.

So of the colour drained from her face at the revelation, and I understood she knew them. Maybe she didn’t approve of her precious son dating soone whose father had a history that people like her didn’t find appropriate.

I didn’t care; I was proud of my father, but many wealthy families despised our social standing.

"I see," she simply said, any semblance of a smile and the slight warmth she had begun to show evaporated in that mont. Turning her head, she began to stare out, and I found her reaction weird.

Just then, my phone chid. Taking it out, I saw it was a text from Callum. My heartbeats intensified as I clicked it open with my trembling fingers, knowing he must have gotten so information on him.

{Arata, I wasn’t able to salvage much, but I found so things related to his mother’s side of the family and about his dad. His dad’s na is Preston Hugh, and he has been in jail for the last 26 years because of rape and sexual charges against him from several won. His mother’s side belongs to a special Mafia ring that specialises in vigilante justice. They go by the family na, Toledo, which is kinda kept as secret, and once the eldest male in the family gets married, he takes on the role of the leader of his area.}

My heart rapidly sank. I knew about his father, but now I knew his na and could search more about him. While I thought his father was the real deal, it had turned out his mother’s side was twisted, too. That explained the snake tattoo.

Now the warnings and what they kept saying and threatening him with made sense.

Urisa’s words ca back to when she had asked him.

"Does she know the whole truth about you?"

My mind wondered if that was the reason he was so afraid to find love and get married.

Was he afraid to beco the Mafia Lord?
