(Karsten)

Warm and soft, Arata clung to as Urisa spewed nonsense like a jilted lover. We had parted ways a long ti ago and yet she wouldn’t let go of the notion that I would one day return to her.

I respected her for everything she had done for during my dark days but I didn’t want a relationship with her.

Urisa believed I had discarded her and now seeing with Arata flared her jealousy. She was like a venomous snake who always stuck back and my only concern was she would hurt Arata.

"Urisa! We have spoken about this. It’s ti you understand that I am with Arata now. Continuing down this road will only bring you pain. Learn to let go." An attempt I made to make her ease down but Urisa had this fire of jealousy burning in her eyes.

"Does she know? The whole truth about you? Can she handle the whole...." She began to reveal the deepest darkest secrets I was trying to shield Arata from.

Panic gripped ...not yet. I couldn’t lose Arata just yet. She was the only brightness I was so selfishly clinging to.

"URISA!" I thundered so loudly that Arata shivered against .

Urisa snorted at my reaction, understanding so clearly that Arata had no clue.

I turned to a slightly stunned Arata and cald the rage threatening to spill out. Closing my eyes just for a second before opening them again, so she wouldn’t see the darkness that resided in my soul.

"Arata, go have breakfast. I will join you soon. Let have a word with Urisa." I offered her a forced smile, knowing how stubborn Arata could get.

But this ti she complied, offering space. Maybe she understood that the relationship between Urisa and was well—complicated.

"Of course! Now that my sleep has been disturbed, I may get so breakfast to make up for interrupted sleep. Don’t be too long though..." She deliberately raised herself and peppered a small aningful kiss on my cheek.

Arata could be brutal, she definitely knew how to make soone jealous, especially if they had ssed with her first.

My cheek felt hot where her lips had brushed against. I knew this was just a gesture to show Urisa we were a real deal, it still filled my heart with warming sensations.

The events of the last night were still fresh and I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold myself together if she continued to kiss like that.

Once Arata had descended the stairs, Urisa walked past , pushing open the door of my room and entering like the self proclaid queen.

Sighing I followed her, trying to keep the surging anger under wraps.

She took her seat on my sofa, leaning into it’s back and facing with a mocking smile.

"Are you in love with her or just dragging her alone to vex your family and ?"

Urisa was not stupid, she knew I had shown my abhorrence to having a girlfriend multiple tis. She could peer through my facade.

The question was, where did I actually stand with Arata?

I crossed my arms and faced her, her eyes lingered on my bare chest and sohow it bothered . I had just erged from the bathroom earlier when I heard Urisa’s screaming. So, I had rushed out without putting on my shirt.

But seeing her leer at , made regret my decision now.

"It’s my personal matter, why can’t all of you stay out of this?" My annoyance not only mingled in my voice but also flashed through my eyes.

"I feel sorry for her, Karsten. You are going to break her heart or she is going to run when the real truth about your family will surface. You can’t even bring yourself to reveal your real face, the face only I know."

The slow smirk forming on her lips irritated . Urisa never minded playing dirty and I knew that’s exactly what she was going to be doing.

I took a threatening step forward and hardened my face like stone.

I stared her dead in the eyes.

"Don’t make remove you from my life, Urisa. You breathe a single word to Arata and we are done. I will forget you are my childhood friend." I threatened and her forehead wrinkled, but I wasn’t done.

Another step forward until I towered over her.

"You are no longer welcod to my ho, return to Sparia, imdiately or I will have you thrown out...no regrets."

Smirk dissolved into hurt and tears welled up in her eyes.

Damn! I hated tears and now she was going to cry.

"You have changed...Karsten. You are no longer the man I fell in love with...who used to be my best friend..."

Tears fell from her eyes and she wiped them away. I straightened up and took a step back.

Although I knew she was bringing this on herself after the constant reminders from not to intrude in my private life, it still nagged .

Getting up she took tired steps to approach , the tears sparkling on her cheeks. At a ti in my life I would have hugged and consoled her, maybe made out too but now the idea seed so foreign.

She extended her hand, trying to touch my chest but I took a step back.

Disappointnt flashed on her face as she paused right beside and ominously said.

"You are going to regret breaking my heart."

Urisa walked away, opening my door, she exited it—leaving with troubled thoughts.

I had dragged Arata into my dangerous world and now it was my duty to protect her.

Silently contemplating, I moved and dragged out a dress shirt from my walk-in closet. Putting it on along with the watch Arata had given , I left the room.

Olphi was waiting for outside with a grim face.

"Miss Marique has left, I ensured she didn’t confront Ma’am Arata."

I liked how Olphi understood what needed to be done without having to inform him.

"Good." I headed downstairs, my mood extrely soured.

Arata’s hearty giggles sounded from the dining room. She must have been talking to Asbela.

As I entered, Asbela quickly retreated while Arata’s curious eyes drifted towards .

The smile she was carrying was wiped from her face as she observed my face.

"Everything alright?" She asked, getting up from her chair and advancing towards .
