Lan Jing climbed into the carriage reluctantly, his stiff posture betraying the sheer terror coursing through him. He sat across from Feng Chen, his eyes darting nervously as if expecting the "Great Demon" to strike at any mont.

Feng Chen leaned back against the cushioned seat, his expression calm, but his piercing gaze was fixed on Lan Jing.

"Relax," Feng Chen said flatly, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "If I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't have waited this long. Of course, unless you betray !"

Lan Jing swallowed hard, wiping the sweat from his brow. "I-I wasn't thinking that!" He stamred. After going through Feng Chen's lesson, betrayal was the last thing on his mind.

Feng Chen leaned back in his seat, his gaze never leaving Lan Jing. The atmosphere in the carriage grew tense, the faint rattle of the wheels against the cobblestone streets offering the only sound between them.

"So," Feng Chen began, his voice low and sharp. "Why are you here with the Second Prince? I thought your Lan Clan had sworn allegiance to the First Prince."

Feng Chen's eyes never left Lan Jing, who seed more uneasy with each passing second. Lan Jing swallowed hard, his pulse quickening as the weight of the question settled on him.

"It's not what you think," Lan Jing stamred, his voice shaky. "The alliance with the First Prince is a... secret. The Second Prince doesn't know about it."

Feng Chen's gaze sharpened. "So the Second Prince thinks you're neutral? He called you here to join him, didn't he?"

"Yes, he believes I'm still on the fence. He's been courting , trying to win my support. He's offering promises of power and resources if he cos out on top."

Feng Chen leaned back, processing the information. "And what did you tell him?"

"I told the Second Prince that I needed ti to think, to discuss it with my clan."

Feng Chen raised an eyebrow. "And the First Prince? Did you inform him?"

"We've inford the First Prince before coming here. He told us to agree to et with the Second Prince, so it wouldn't raise any suspicions."

Feng Chen's expression shifted from curiosity to understanding. Then, his mind began to turn over the possibility of who might want to kill Wang Zhiqing.

There were other candidates, but Feng Chen felt that the first and second princes had the highest chances of being involved.

The Second Prince, due to the revelation by the assassin, was a likely suspect. It made sense, given the bloodshed that often accompanied the royal succession battles.

But the First Prince, who seed to be the calr and more composed one, was a more insidious threat. His thods aligned with how the assassin wanted to kill Wang Zhiqing, making Feng Chen suspect the First Prince's involvent.

( But why Wang Zhiqing? )

Feng Chen wondered. The biggest competitors for the throne were definitely the First and Second Princes, followed by the Third Prince.

He didn't understand the purpose of killing Wang Zhiqing. Even if she had ambitions to fight for the throne, her chances of success seed slim.

( Perhaps the entire attempt on her life was to fra one of the princes. )

Feng Chen thought that was the most probable reason.

"So, where would you like to go?" Lan Jing asked, eager to be separated from Feng Chen.

Feng Chen smiled and answered.

"Lan Clan, obviously. Where would I stay in this capital? Or does the Lan Clan Leader have any problem with that?"

"N-No, no, no! I would love to." Lan Jing said, but inwardly, he cursed.

Feng Chen stayed for just one night at the Lan Clan. Lan Jing and the other elders did their utmost to tend to him, providing him with als and attending to his every need. Feng Chen even joked that he didn't want to leave because of how well they were taking care of him.

They almost regretted being so hospitable when they heard Feng Chen say that. Of course, Feng Chen didn't stay and left. It didn't take long for Feng Chen to reach Misty Vale City.

"Clan Leader, you're back!" One of the servants exclaid when Feng Chen entered the Feng Estate.

Feng Chen gave a small nod in acknowledgnt. "Where is Elder Wei?"

"Elder Wei is currently in a eting with the other elders in the main hall, Clan Leader."

The servant inford Feng Chen.

"Thank you!" Feng Chen responded, then made his way to the main hall.

When he arrived at the main hall, the door was ajar. Through the opening, he could see Elder Wei in the midst of a conversation with several other elders.

"Grand Elder Zhenshan is also here!" Feng Chen muttered to himself.

He had been sent to protect Feng Yun, but that was now unnecessary as he had already taken care of Lan Clan.

"Ah, Nephew, you're back," Elder Wei greeted as Feng Chen entered. Everyone's attention quickly shifted to Feng Chen.

"How was the trip to the capital?" "Did you deal with the Lan Clan? I heard they've stopped chasing after Feng Yun."

….

The other elders were also curious and eager to know how Feng Chen had dealt with the Lan Clan, one of the top ten strongest clans in the capital.

"Okay, okay. Slow down! I will tell you everything. But first, did you bring back Yun'er?" Feng Chen asked.

Grand Elder Zhenshan and the other elders shook their heads.

"Chen'er, it seems Yun'er has so kind of trump card. Even we couldn't locate his actual location," Grand Elder Zhenshan said with pride. Although it stung his pride as a Three Elents Divine Realm cultivator, he was proud of his grand-nephew's capabilities.

"But worry not. He sent us a letter saying that he is fine and traveling. It seems those Lan Elders were also unable to track him down."

"Mmmm…" Feng Chen pondered for a while. Thinking about the Soul in his ring, he knew that the powerful soul must have taught Feng Yun so good techniques to escape.

Anyway, it was good to know that Feng Yun was safe.

Moreover, the Lan Clan Elders had already stopped hunting him down, so there was no need to worry.

"Okay, then. Let's talk about other things. Firstly, the Lan Clan!"
