The makeup room fell into a brief silence, but soon whispers erupted after Hua Tiantian’s assistant said sothing.
"Looks like the rumors are true, Hua Tiantian really used to work as a waitress."
"Don’t talk nonsense; there are many kinds of waitresses,"
Huang Shan overheard the chatter and pretended to discuss the authenticity of the entertainnt gossip with her assistant.
"I’ve heard before that plenty of actors who are just starting out did odd jobs. They’d do whatever it took to survive—stuff like being a mistress or getting kept, giving massages to clients and using it as an excuse to offer certain... ’special services.’ It’s nothing surprising anymore. Everything’s for the money; there’s no need to act so shocked. But now that it’s been exposed, how’s she going to save face?"
Her words were deliberately spoken loud enough, and Hua Tiantian had good ears. She caught every word clearly.
"Huang Shan, what did you just say? Say that again!"
"What’s the matter with you? Why are you so worked up? I wasn’t even talking about you. My assistant and I were discussing so up-and-coming actors. Which ear of yours heard ntion your na?" Huang Shan replied, feigning innocence while her eyes glinted with smugness.
Hua Tiantian, fuming, snapped back: "Yes, I used to work as a waitress in Sifang City. So what? Tons of people have worked as waitresses before. Only people with dirty minds twist things so badly about others, as if it makes them look noble."
"You—you dare say another word? Hua Tiantian, don’t get too full of yourself. Just because soone’s backing you doesn’t an you’re untouchable. Let tell you, you know better than anyone what you’ve done. I don’t even bother airing it."
As she spoke, Huang Shan grabbed her makeup bag and left the dressing room with her assistant in haste.
"Don’t be mad, don’t be mad. She’s not worth it,"
Hua Tiantian’s assistant quickly tried to comfort her when she saw how red Hua Tiantian’s face had gotten from anger.
"I just don’t get it—why has she been picking on these past few days? And what’s with this ridiculous news? I really wonder if the dia have water in their brains nowadays—they just love fabricating nonsense."
"Fake news is fake news. We’ll let the truth speak for itself. There’s work to be done later, so calm down, calm down."
To the others in the room, Hua Tiantian’s irritation carried different implications. After that exchange, no one dared to speak much more, knowing that the director hated gossip. Plus, such a commotion might’ve been overheard by the staff outside.
"Sister Shan, earlier so of the props crew kept sneaking glances at you. Was it because your voice in the makeup room was too loud and they overheard?"
"So what if they overheard? Big deal."
Huang Shan snapped at her assistant dismissively. Hands on her hips, she vented irritably, "That Hua Tiantian really won’t back down until she hits a dead end. Does she seriously think acting all innocent and virtuous is enough to make people believe her? Yelling a few words and firing back in the makeup room won’t change the facts."
"But Hua Tiantian’s situation..."
Seeing the assistant’s hesitant and uneasy expression, Huang Shan imdiately grew more irked. "Let tell you this—I swear, if you dare spread this, I’ll make sure you lose your job. Keep your mouth shut tight. Got it?!"
"Got it."
Hua Tiantian’s scandal had already made it onto the entertainnt section’s headlines early that morning—it was hard to ignore.
The secretary read the headline aloud directly to ng Yan.
"Which website?"
