Qin Miaomiao took care of Rong Lan. Calling it caregiving was a stretch; for tasks that required physical contact, she handed them off entirely to the attendant to avoid interaction.
After Rong Lan regained consciousness, she stayed by his side and chatted with him a bit more than usual.
"Why are you here?"
"You saved . Reasonably speaking, I should stay and accompany you. Thank you for saving . If you need anything, just let know."
Rong Lan gave a weak smile:
"I don’t need anything. When can I get back to work?"
"You need to rest for at least half a month."
"That won’t do. That’s too much ti wasted."
Qin Miaomiao reassured him, saying, "I’ll cover all the losses myself. You don’t need to worry."
Rong Lan looked at her and gave a mocking smile. "You used to avoid like I was poison. And now? You’re guarding day and night? It must be unbearable for you."
"You don’t have to say things like that, Rong Lan. Debts of gratitude must be repaid."
"Hah, you think this is just a debt of gratitude? I saved you because I wanted to. It has nothing to do with you."
Rong Lan laughed at himself, "I’m just pathetic. No matter how angry or resentful I feel towards you, the mont I see you in danger, I still risk everything to save you."
"Thank you."
"Miao Miao, you know... I want more than just your thanks."
"Besides gratitude, I don’t know what else I can give you."
Rong Lan fixed his gaze on her, his voice firm and deliberate:
"What I want... is you."
"You know that’s impossible."
Rong Lan lay there with his back wrapped in white gauze, the sight of him sowhat pitiful. He closed his eyes slightly, and sothing undefinable seed to spill forth.
"If it’s impossible, then I won’t press you. Leave. Don’t co and see again. Once I’ve healed, I’ll return to work on ti."
He didn’t need money, nor resources. He barely even had much life left in him. What else was there to say?
What he wanted, she couldn’t give.
And for Qin Miaomiao, that was deeply tornting.
If money could resolve it, or anything tangible, she would gladly pay the price. Yet, he wanted her—her heart, her very being. Those were things she could neither give nor bear the cost of giving!
"I’m sorry."
After uttering those words, she stood, turned, and prepared to leave. But Rong Lan suddenly spoke again!
"Wait."
Qin Miaomiao paused in her steps and turned to look at him. His face was expressionless, yet sothing flickered in his dark eyes. He said:
"Take care of for three days. Personally, for three days. No passing it off to others. After that, we’ll call it even, and you won’t owe anything."
Qin Miaomiao frowned at him:
"What are you saying?"
"Surely you’re not incapable of even sothing this simple."
The pain from concentrated acid corroding his skin—his injuries were severe. Even with skin graft surgery later, there was no certainty his body would truly recover. If such a sacrifice couldn’t earn three days of care from her, then she was undeniably too unfair.
Qin Miaomiao clenched her teeth and said:
"Fine! Three days it is!"
Having made this decision, the attendant who had been caring for him was dismissed.
In reality, all she needed to do was stay with him and provide him his als. For tasks requiring physical contact, the nurses could handle those.
Qin Miaomiao inford Lu Qing of her decision. She was hesitant to call, so she simply sent him a ssage on WeChat.
She explained the situation.
But Lu Qing didn’t respond, perhaps still angry with her.
For three full days, Qin Miaomiao stayed in the hospital room, never leaving for a mont. Though aside from the two of them, Little sixth and Little seventh were also present.
