Gu Wenyu woke up and looked at the wall. The clock was ticking.

The ti was already two o’clock in the afternoon on August 5th.

At this mont, he was lying on the sofa in the living room, resting his head on the armrest, and when he looked down, he noticed a thin cotton blanket had sohow appeared on his body.

The upright fan beside him was on, the blades rotating slowly, sending a cool breeze that chased away the sumr heat.

Turning to look at the window covered with a layer of moisture, the sky had cleared, though a faint damp sll still lingered in the air. A bird flew over the cables and wires, soaring towards the clear, washed sky in the afternoon sun.

The sll of cooking wafted from the kitchen.

Gu Wenyu twitched his nose and looked sideways to see Gu Qiye with an apron tied around him.

Gu Qiye was focused on washing vegetables, his face expressionless.

As if catching a glimpse of Gu Wenyu moving on the sofa from the corner of his eye, he raised his eyebrows and turned his face to look over.

"Awake?"

"Awake."

Gu Wenyu nodded, thinking his brother seed to be in good spirits today. Was it because he rested a whole day and night at the entrance yesterday?

"Then let’s eat first," Gu Qiye smirked, "and then... we’ll go buy a cake."

"Cake?"

Gu Wenyu was taken aback.

"Yeah," Gu Qiye said casually, "isn’t it Dad’s birthday today?"

"Oh..." Gu Wenyu paused, "that’s true."

He originally wanted to ask sothing like, weren’t you fighting like ghosts and howling like wolves at the entrance yesterday, and today you’re celebrating a birthday—doesn’t that feel awkward?

But seeing Gu Qiye’s good mood, Gu Wenyu decided to keep quiet and not bring it up.

"Xiaomai replied to my ssage," Gu Qiye said, "she said she’s just out walking and will be back soon. No need to worry, the people with her are quite reliable."

"Little sister is truly unstoppable. Runs off without a word and only replies a day later."

Gu Wenyu shrugged, thinking it was urgent, he had to take out the paper diapers hidden in the box imdiately.

Thinking this, he asked, "And Dad?"

"I didn’t ask him, did you?" Gu Qiye was silent for a mont and then spoke.

"Actually, before you even started fighting yesterday morning, I had already sent him a ssage."

"What did you send?"

"I told him: ’Tonight is your birthday, we ordered a cake for you.’"

"And? What was his reply?"

"I don’t know, let check."

Gu Wenyu mumbled as he found his phone under the blanket on the sofa.

He unlocked the screen and looked down at the ssage interface. The ssage with a red dot was from Dad.

[Gu Zhuo Case: No need to buy an expensive cake.]

Gu Wenyu reported truthfully: "Dad suddenly replied early this morning, told : ’No need to buy an expensive cake.’"

Gu Qiye’s hands paused slightly in the sink.

After a while, he slowly raised his head and asked:

"That’s all he said?"

"Yeah, so let’s follow Dad’s idea and not buy an expensive one. Anyway, it’s his birthday today. A bunch of guys, sincerity is what counts. Any extra money should go to buying a new pair of shoes."

Gu Wenyu rambled on.

He added, "Preferably a pair of the collaborative shoes endorsed by Swallowing Silver. On September 1st, the first day at school, there’s no need to wear uniform, I’m going there in full Swallowing Silver fan attire—it’s all about the ritual!"

Then Gu Wenyu clenched his fist with a look full of hope and courage. He was fired up, but didn’t know what exactly was driving him.

"Actually, it couldn’t be that expensive to begin with." Gu Qiye chuckled.

"Why?"

"Because we didn’t order it yesterday, today we can only go to the store to buy one that’s ready, which is relatively cheaper." Gu Qiye said blandly, "Co on, we’ll leave after breakfast."

"Oh oh."

"You and little sister are always saying my aesthetic is off—then you pick the cake."

"No, no, my aesthetic often gets criticized by little sister."

Gu Wenyu waved his hand.

Gu Qiye thought for a mont: "How about we take pictures in the cake shop and let Xiaomai choose one?"

"Good, good... little sister indeed remains the little leader of the family; even when she runs away, she firmly holds the position of little leader. The younger brother will always be the younger brother,"

Gu Wenyu said with emotion, rolling his eyes.

"No choice, if the little leader is coaxed into a good mood, maybe she’ll suddenly co back in a few days," Gu Qiye laughed and replied.

"So, are you still joining Rainbow Wings?"

Gu Wenyu suddenly asked.

"Let’s not talk about this for now... Oh right, help remind Dad of sothing."

"Remind what?" Gu Wenyu raised his eyebrows.

Gu Qiye was silent.

He looked down at the vegetable scraps floating in the sink, and suddenly recalled the day he woke up in the ergency room of the Mutants Association building. Fan Dongqing from Rainbow Wings’ "Vessel of Li Qing" and You Ruirui, the "Extre Ice Maiden", told him that apart from recruiting him to join Rainbow Wings, they had another purpose for coming to Li Jing:

——to arrest Ghost Bell.

Though they said arrest, the Mutants Association rules stipulated for opponents of Ghost Bell’s level, a live capture wasn’t hoped for. Killing would already be a major achievent.

Let alone Rainbow Wings’ style, which treated human life as expendable.

You Ruirui was soone Gu Qiye still didn’t know well, but with Fan Dongqing’s arrogant personality, getting him to spare Ghost Bell’s life would be tough.
