At the mont the counter hit zero, Ji Minghuan’s vision was swallowed by blinding light.
The sound of cicadas filled his ears as he opened his eyes to a clear blue sky. Sweltering air pressed down, and a dark green JR train clattered by on the street tracks with a "clang clang."
Looking slightly downward, he spotted the landmark—Tokyo Tower.
He rembered the orphanage library had lots of travel magazines.

Seeing it in person was even more spectacular than in the books: Tokyo Tower stood quietly beneath the sky, like a giant raising a torch, radiating white brilliance in the dim world.
