A beam from a searchlight illuminated the dim world as the Train Demon rumbled forward, spewing waves of white steam into the space-ti tunnel.
At this mont, looking through the window of Carriage 7, the interior was brightly lit, and two silhouettes sat face to face, deep in conversation.
Ke Qirui nodded slightly. She took a drag from her pipe, then looked up and asked Black Cocoon,
"Mr. Black Cocoon, before we start discussing Red Traffic Light, I still want to ask about the origins of this Calamity-Tier figure you ntioned."
"Honestly, I am not entirely sure myself." Black Cocoon leaned against the carriage door, glancing sideways at the night scenery outside the window. "I have not figured out the background or the na of this organization yet. I only know they are very dangerous."
"So there are actually things that even Mr. Black Cocoon does not know?"
"That is a bit of a joke, Miss Ke," Black Cocoon said, spreading his hands. "I am not a god, so how could I be omniscient." After saying that, he added in his mind: 'Though destroying the world is certainly doable.'
"Not a god," Su Zimai muttered. "A bug."
"Not a Refrigerator Demon," Black Cocoon responded softly, covering his mouth. "An Iced Diaper Demon." He paused. "It looks like a refrigerator on the outside, but in reality, that is just a cover for the icy-cold diapers hidden in the freezer section."
Su Zimai furrowed her brows. "You!"
"No fighting," Lin Zhengquan declared in a deep voice, pressing a hand onto Su Zimai's shoulder.
"Who told you to always act as if you know everything." Ke Qirui shrugged. "I subconsciously set my expectations for you accordingly."
She thought for a mont, then added, "Can I assu that you are withholding information about this organization to protect us?"
"Of course, I do not mind if you think that way," Black Cocoon agreed, nodding.
"Alright, I will not ask any more about it." Ke Qirui nodded and fell silent for a mont. "Since their strength is so formidable, our objective is to snatch away Red Traffic Light before they arrive, correct?"
"It is wonderful that you catch on so quickly; it saves
a lot of effort," Black Cocoon said. "To achieve this goal, I need the intel you have on hand."
Ke Qirui looked up at him. "Based on the clues Red Traffic Light left behind during his last cri, we can confirm his next target is a Tier 2 Exorcist affiliated with the London gang known as the Black Rabbit Gang. His na is Swallow Ghost."
She paused. "In other words, as long as we find Swallow Ghost ahead of ti and set up an ambush nearby, we can simply lay in wait and capture the wanted criminal Red Traffic Light when he shows up."
"I see. So how do we find this Swallow Ghost?" Black Cocoon asked.
"The Exorcist Association has planted one or two insiders within the London gangs. This insider revealed that Swallow Ghost will be conducting a transaction with mbers of another gang early in the morning on July 26th at an underground bar in Westminster. However, it is currently unclear exactly which bar it is," Ke Qirui explained slowly. "But there are only three underground bars in Westminster altogether, so finding him will be quite simple."
Black Cocoon thought for a mont. "By the ti the Train Demon arrives in London, it should still be the evening of July 25th over there. Should we get so sleep first and start searching tomorrow morning?"
"Yes."
"That does not sound like a difficult task at all."
With the pipe clamped between her teeth, Ke Qirui teased, "We thought the exact sa thing, until you barged in and suddenly started spouting nonsense about 'this incident involving Calamity-Tier figures,' making
reconsider whether we should just cancel this operation entirely..."
"I refuse to discuss this topic. Miss Ke, I am not soone who can be easily tricked into spilling secrets." Black Cocoon spoke nonchalantly. "Why do we not talk about what exact abilities Red Traffic Light possesses instead."
Without even lifting her head, Su Zimai answered, "That guy's Celestial Drive is a streetlamp. When the lamp turns red, any enemy hit by it becos immobilized. When it turns green, enemies struck by it suffer from amplified impact force. And when it turns yellow, every swing of the lamp unleashes a forward shockwave."
Black Cocoon clapped his hands. "Being able to explain all that so fluently is no easy feat, considering both your brain capacity and your language organization skills. You deserve so praise."
Su Zimai glared at him. She hesitated to speak, seemingly too tired to even bother arguing with him anymore.
"Anyway, that concludes our intelligence exchange. Now, may I ask about Mr. Chess Player?" Ke Qirui said with a smile, crossing her arms.
Upon hearing the title "Chess Player," Su Zimai, Xu Sanyan, and Lin Zhengquan all raised their heads simultaneously, casting their gazes toward Black Cocoon.
"Pardon my presumption, Miss Ke, but are you already infatuated with him?" Black Cocoon asked. "You open and close your mouth talking about Mr. Xia. It is hard not to suspect that you might have secretly developed feelings for him at so point."
"Hard to say. I think I would prefer a partner who is a bit more flexible." Ke Qirui gave a noncommittal response.
Black Cocoon rested one hand on his hip, thinking to himself: 'Sigh, if you knew that he was currently the Team Favorite of the brigade, owing at the Yakuza Young Mistress every single day, would you still call him an inflexible man?'
He shrugged and said, "Undoubtedly, Mr. Chess Player is also interested in the Red Traffic Light situation. He will most likely show up in London."
Su Zimai's eyes flickered slightly.
"Are the mbers of the White Raven Brigade with him?" Ke Qirui asked.
"Naturally," Black Cocoon replied. "However, the brigade is currently in a disbanded state, so there are only one or two mbers by his side. Do not worry. Given Mr. Chess Player's personality, there is no way he would put you all in danger."
He paused. "If he wants to investigate Red Traffic Light, he will likely act alone and temporarily send the people from the White Raven Brigade away."
Ke Qirui remained silent for a mont before placing her pipe back into her mouth. "Understood."
"So, how much longer until we arrive in London?" Black Cocoon asked casually.
"Twenty minutes."
"That speed is truly astonishing."
Black Cocoon crossed his arms and offered a word of praise, then turned his head to gaze out the window. The Train Demon was currently speeding through the grotesque and bizarre space-ti tunnel.
"I will go rest for a while then," Ke Qirui stated. "Call
if anything cos up."
With that, she walked into the next carriage without looking back.
Xu Sanyan and Lin Zhengquan also left one after another. Right before leaving, Lin Zhengquan glanced at Su Zimai. "Mai, are you not going to rest for a bit?"
"No, I have sothing I want to talk to him about." Su Zimai shook her head.
"Alright." Lin Zhengquan pulled the door shut.
Only Black Cocoon and Su Zimai were left in the carriage, their figures shrouded in dappled, intersecting light and shadows.
"You cannot hang yourself up anymore. You look like you are suffering," Su Zimai mocked, observing his current state.
"You even noticed that, Miss Iced Diaper Demon."
"Call
that again, and I will kill you."
"Alright, Miss Su Zimai," Black Cocoon said as he flipped open a manga.
"What manga are you reading? Can I take a look too?" Su Zimai asked.
"Is it not better to read on your phone? Or do you prefer reading from paper?" Black Cocoon asked.
"Inside the belly of the Train Demon, mobile phones have no signal," Su Zimai pointed out. "Otherwise, why would I be bored enough to borrow a book from you?" "Fine, I suppose I can reluctantly lend it to you." Black Cocoon scratched his head in distress. "Be careful not to tear it. I borrowed this from the bookstore owner. Last night, a neurotic collaborator stuffed my borrowed books full of bombs, making it impossible for
to return them. I ended up getting a sarcastic lecture from the owner over it."
After speaking, he used his Restraining Bands to pass the copy of "Goodbye, Eri" to Su Zimai.
Su Zimai hesitated for a second before reaching out to take the manga. "Thanks."
"What is this manga about?"
"A mother is diagnosed with a terminal illness and is about to die. She asks the male protagonist to shoot a film docunting her final days, and then..."
"No spoilers."
"But you asked
to explain it."
"If I ask you to explain it, you just explain it?"
Black Cocoon remained silent for a mont. "Uh... let us discuss the functions of diapers and how to wear them instead."
"I am really curious about what kind of person is hiding beneath your mask."
"What kind of person do you think I am?" Black Cocoon tilted his head and asked.
Su Zimai lowered her eyes to look at the manga book and thought about it. "A thirty-sothing, well-read, secretly eccentric older man who is still a child at heart?"
"The 'well-read' and 'child at heart' parts are actually true," Black Cocoon replied.
"Heh."
"This manga is quite short. You should be able to finish it before we get off the train," Black Cocoon said, glancing at the carriage ahead of them. "Speaking of which, did you tell the others in the Ghost Train Gang?"
"Tell them what?"
"Your brother's identity."
Su Zimai was quiet for a mont. "Not yet."
"Why?" Black Cocoon asked. "If you told them, it would probably shock them quite a bit, right?"
"I want to earn the respect of others through my own strength, not by being 'Blue Arc's little sister,'" Su Zimai said softly.
"You are an earnest, good kid," Black Cocoon said.
The carriage jolted slightly, and a brief silence fell between the two of them.
"Mom," Su Zimai suddenly said.
Black Cocoon was taken aback.
"I an... this manga reminds
of my mom." Su Zimai lowered her eyes, staring at the protagonist's mother on the manga page. "I wish she was still here."
Black Cocoon remained silent for a while.
"Honestly, even though you have a terrible mouth, you are actually a pretty good person," Su Zimai said. "When I went back, I watched the video of your first appearance. If it had not been for you back then, my foolish brother might have actually put on Green Wing's handcuffs."
She paused. "At first, I did not know Blue Arc was my brother, so I watched it just for the entertainnt... Looking back at it now, I realize just how dangerous it was. I felt like I was suffocating. I dare not even imagine what would have happened if he had truly put on those handcuffs."
"He is Blue Arc," Black Cocoon stated. "Even if I had not arrived in ti, he would have struck down his enemies like a bolt of lightning and brought everything to a perfect conclusion."
"Really?" Su Zimai's gaze lingered on the pages.
"Exactly." Black Cocoon nodded.
"You are lying," Su Zimai argued. "Anyone could tell that my brother's speed was much slower back then..."
She paused, then asked in a quiet voice, "Was he injured at the ti? Did he suffer severe injuries, yet still force himself to confront Green Wing to save the hostages?"
Black Cocoon silently stared at her face for a mont before shrugging. He answered frankly, "Just as you guessed. At that ti, your dear brother had just finished a fight with the super criminal Ghost Bell. He hastily treated wounds that were severe enough to be fatal, then rushed straight to the central plaza to face Green Wing."
Su Zimai fell into a quiet stupor.
She lowered her head slightly, her eyes obscured by her bangs. After a long while, she took a deep breath and murmured to herself,
"As I thought... He really is that foolish."
"That is why I said everyone in your family has an ascetic-like spirit." Black Cocoon shook his head. "Simply foolish beyond belief."
After a long silence, Su Zimai whispered, "I will not mind no matter how much you make fun of
from now on. I will not get mad at you... because you saved my brother, and you saved ."
"Stop, stop, stop. Why are you making it sound like I am just bullying a little girl? I will not be able to find any joy in this anymore," Black Cocoon hurriedly called a halt. "Fine... Do not make that kind of expression. I will not use the Diaper Demon to joke around with you anymore."
Su Zimai nodded. "If you ever need help in the future, I will definitely assist you with all my strength."
"Of course," Black Cocoon said, before suddenly narrowing his eyes. "Wait... Your goal was not just to trick
into saying, 'I will not make diaper jokes about you anymore,' was it?"
"You never break a promise! You said so yourself!" Su Zimai humd triumphantly. As she spoke, she looked up at him, a sly smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Black Cocoon looked at her sparkling, bright eyes. After a mont, he shook his head. "I really have to hand it to you. But it is true, I never break a promise."
He covered his forehead and muttered dramatically, "Could it be that this is... the final diaper? Farewell, all you diaper warriors."
"We have an agreent! If you joke about this again, I will bite you to death!"
"Naturally."
"Here is your manga back. I actually cannot understand it anyway. I am going to sleep." Su Zimai shoved "Goodbye, Eri" back into his hands.
Black Cocoon accepted the manga, then used his Restraining Bands to wave goodbye to her. He watched her figure disappear at the end of the next carriage.
'Do not die before , little sister...' he thought to himself. 'I still want to find entertainnt in dying right in front of you. If your whole family perishes before I do, what fun will there be in my faked death plan?'
