For so reason, the scene before him gave Ji Minghuan a strong sense of déjà vu.
The sa sushi restaurant, the sa counter, the sa silence, and the sa number of people.
Last ti, it was Gu Wenyu, Su Zimai, and Ke Qirui.
This ti, it was Gu Wenyu, Gu Zhuo'an, and Gu Qiye.
Only one person remained constant, and only one person was forever secretly amusing himself, completely detached from the bitter and vengeful atmosphere—this was the self-discipline of a top-tier gar.
At this mont, a deathly silence shrouded the father and his two sons.
They stood out like a sore thumb among the other patrons, as if covered by a grayscale filter. Even the morning light of Tokyo seed to dim for a second as it spilled into the shop and swept past them.
The custors sitting nearby could not help but cast sideways glances and click their tongues, wondering what could possibly make them look so deeply troubled and hostile.
They were just eating sushi, yet they acted like yakuza thugs here to collect protection money.
The shop owner was nearly scared witless by their expressions, his hand trembling as he sliced salmon with his kitchen knife.
He occasionally peeked up from the cutting board, observing the unpredictable, brooding faces of the father and older son.
Fortunately, Ji Minghuan remained at the counter, looking calm and perfectly at ease.
He sat quietly between the two of them like a ditating monk.
This thoroughly ordinary teenager wedged between two n who looked like underworld bosses acted like a potent tranquilizer shot straight into the hearts of the surrounding custors, allowing them to secretly breathe a sigh of relief.
After a mont, Gu Zhuo'an suddenly raised his hand and rested his palm on Gu Wenyu's head.
He lowered his face slightly, his expression complex as he took a deep breath of the stifling air.
Swallowing hard, he tried his best to make his voice sound less gloomy. "Wenyu, when we get back, you need to tell
exactly what happened. Your little sister ran away from ho recently, and we are all worried that she might have gotten involved with sothing strange. Like a cult or a pyramid sche. You know there is a lot of that kind of stuff out there these days..."
Ji Minghuan rolled his eyes.
At this mont, he felt as if he could completely empathize with Sun Wukong from Journey to the West. A soul-stirring phrase echoed in his mind:
'If you have sothing to say, spit it out, you old Buddha dog, and take your hand off my head.'
But a thought was just a thought. He did not have a magical golden cudgel or a cloud-sorsault, and the most he could do was cause a tiny bit of world destruction. Ultimately, he still had to bow to cruel reality.
So, he obediently nodded and replied, "Oh, right... Okay, Dad. I am also worried that my little sister has gone down the wrong path."
Now that the old man had finished his piece, it was ti for the older brother beside him to exert so pressure.
A father-and-son tag team. Such terrifying power...
Ji Minghuan was already starting to worry about Su Zimai's life once she returned ho. His little sister would undoubtedly be dragged into endless lectures by these two Calamity-Tier lords.
Well, it was not worry so much as it was taking pleasure in her misfortune.
He was already snickering inwardly.
After pondering for a long while, Gu Qiye slowly turned his head to look at the expressionless Ji Minghuan.
He asked in a gentle tone, "Xiao Yu, would it be convenient for you to give
your friend's contact information?"
"Which friend?"
"The one we saw on the streets of Roppongi right after we got off the plane," Gu Qiye paused. "The girl in the trench coat."
"Wait, why do you want her contact information?" Ji Minghuan asked suspiciously. "Big Brother, you do not have a crush on her, do you? I an, she is definitely delicate and pretty, and she is a mixed-race beauty around your age."
He paused before heavily emphasizing, "But... her sexual orientation is rather unusual."
By the end of his sentence, Ji Minghuan deliberately stressed his words, as if hinting that Su Zimai's chastity was already completely compromised.
'I planted another fuse. I really am amazing,' he silently praised himself.
After a mont of silence, Gu Qiye lowered his eyes and slowly spoke.
"Wenyu, I am asking you a very serious question. Can you answer
honestly?"
"What kind of question is it?" Ji Minghuan sighed. "You are making things so tense. Anyone who did not know better would think you two are yakuza bosses and I owe you tens of billions of yen, so you dragged
here for my last al before making
commit seppuku."
Gu Qiye ignored his string of nonsense and asked calmly.
"When we were still in China, the girl who took Xiao Mai away... was that this friend of yours?"
Ji Minghuan froze.
He shook his head. "Uh... no. Big Brother, why are you being so ridiculous? My little sister is in China, and my friend is in Japan. How could she take her away? What, can she fly, or travel through ti and space?"
As he spoke, he deliberately dragged out his words, making it seem like he was lying.
Even though he actually was lying.
Gu Qiye's thoughts were running wild. He knew that Ke Qirui had contracted the Train Demon. Bringing a person from China to Japan would be as easy for her as eating or drinking.
"Xiao Mai..."
He silently murmured his sister's na in his heart, a faint gleam in his eyes. A mont later, he reached out and pressed his hand against the back of Ji Minghuan's head. Turning to stare directly into his eyes, he asked expressionlessly,
"Is that true?"
He rarely spoke so seriously. Anyone who knew Gu Qiye even a little would know that even when his mood was just average, he would speak with a smile, giving off the approachable vibe of a friendly older brother next door.
Therefore, when there was no smile on Gu Qiye's face, even if he spoke in a completely ordinary tone, others would perceive him as being angry.
Or rather... he actually was angry.
Gu Qiye was angry at himself. His sister had gotten mixed up in such a dangerous situation, yet he had been completely clueless about it.
What kind of older brother was he?
At this very mont, the father and son had him cornered—one gripping the top of Gu Wenyu's head, the other holding the back of his neck. The scene felt like a battlefield from antiquity. Nearby Japanese patrons could not help but cast curious glances, assuming they were filming so kind of variety show.
A few young won nearby covered their mouths and let out tiny squeals. Because all three n were exceptionally handso, they assud this was a scene straight out of a lodramatic boys-love drama.
"Are you guys done? You are acting crazy. If I had known, I would not have told you anything."
Ji Minghuan was truly annoyed. He simply raised his hands and swatted their arms away.
After escaping their demonic clutches, he took a deep breath and said with imnse relief,
"Ugh, fine, I will just give you her phone number. You can ask her yourself."
This was exactly what a qualified "Gray Figure" should do: stir up trouble, shift the bla onto Ke Qirui, and then retreat unscathed.
The person he hated the most was Ke Qirui. That wretched train-woman loved causing trouble for him every single day. First, she investigated his Host Body Two, and later she even sent people to track his Host Body One.
Should he not let big brother Blue Arc cause so suffering for this woman?
'How dare you lay a hand on Lord Blue Arc's little sister and Lord Ghost Bell's daughter! Prepare to die, you damn lesbian train-hero!'
Thinking of this, Ji Minghuan could not help but snicker twice.
"Alright, just send it to
on WeChat," Gu Qiye nodded.
Ji Minghuan wanted to send the WeChat ssage imdiately so Gu Qiye could go make life difficult for Ke Qirui, but he still put on an act and sighed. He grumbled, "I will send it to you after we finish eating. Ugh, we ca here to eat, but you guys act like you are interrogating . Neither of you has any humanity."
Right then, the waiter served their dishes, effectively rescuing Ji Minghuan from the awkward situation.
The three of them stopped talking and silently ate their respective als.
Ji Minghuan sat leisurely between the father and son. While eating his salmon sushi, he scrolled through short videos on his mobile phone of the special effects show Kan Rider Ex-Aid—the very show Kong Youling had told him about in the confinent room a few days ago.
Since Kong Youling had not finished watching the show and had recounted the plot in fragnts, he decided to just use the short video platform to catch up on the remaining episodes.
Once he finished his sushi, he was the first to stand up. As if he was still sulking, he left the restaurant without even looking back.
Neither Gu Zhuo'an nor Gu Qiye tried to stop him. Both of them knew they had accidentally taken their frustration out on Gu Wenyu...
'Wenyu clearly does not know anything; he is just an outsider. I should not have spoken to him in that tone.' Thinking of this, Gu Qiye shook his head, clearing the ssy thoughts from his mind.
He stood up from the counter, leaving Gu Zhuo'an alone, and walked toward the exit of the sushi shop.
Just then, Gu Zhuo'an suddenly spoke up from behind, stopping Gu Qiye in his tracks. "Qiye..."
"What is it?" Gu Qiye stopped and glanced back at him, asking coldly.
He already disliked the old man, and to make matters worse, he had more important things to attend to—he needed to call Ke Qirui to confirm if she had anything to do with Su Zimai. Consequently, his mood was exceptionally impatient.
"I just wanted to say..." Gu Zhuo'an hesitated, his thoughts a tangled ss.
"Let
give you a piece of advice... stay away from ," Gu Qiye said in a low voice. "The only reason I am willing to speak to you is because Wenyu still holds onto hope for you as a father... You should be able to see that."
He paused and lowered his voice further. "I am different... I gave up on you a long ti ago."
Gu Zhuo'an hung his head and, after a long mont, softly replied:
"I just want to say that you are my son. No matter what you are doing now, or what you will do in the future, I will always stand by your side. I will not try to persuade you otherwise, nor do I have the right to, but we can face it together."
Gu Qiye remained silent for a while, a slight twitch rippling across his face.
He took a deep breath and slowly said, "After everything, do you really think there is any point in telling
these empty, hypocritical words?"
He paused. "I do not need you. No matter what I do, I will never need you."
With that, Gu Qiye left without looking back.
The night of July 17th.
Host Body Two, Xia Pingzhou, sat on the roof of the cafe loft, gazing out at the brightly lit city of Tokyo.
The evening breeze drifted endlessly.
Not far away, a giant red exclamation mark symbolizing a "Card Event" stood tall in the night sky, less than two kiloters from his position. This exclamation mark had appeared five minutes ago. It was far too conspicuous for him to miss.
Originally, he had planned to send Host Body One to investigate, but Tokyo Tower was too far from Tokyo Bay, and it would take Black Cocoon too much ti to rush over.
So, Ji Minghuan had Host Body Two open the "Skull" app on his phone, wanting to confirm beforehand if this "Card Event" was related to a demon.
Upon launching the app, a map unfolded before his eyes. This was the Exorcist Association's system; if a demon appeared nearby, a glowing dot would show up on the map.
"Kitten, what are you doing?"
A cool, clear voice drifted up from the loft's windowsill. Ji Minghuan lowered his gaze to look at Ayase Origami, who was currently sitting on the sill.
The kimono girl's silhouette was elegant and pristine. As she gazed into the brightly lit tropolis, a sea of stars ford by thousands of illuminated windows reflected in her eyes.
"Looking at the scenery," Ji Minghuan replied casually.
Hearing this, Ayase Origami gave a light leap and landed on the roof of the loft. The sleeves of her ochre-red kimono swayed gracefully in the evening breeze.
She sat down beside Xia Pingzhou and gazed into the distance with him.
The 798-ter-long Rainbow Bridge across Tokyo Bay was brilliantly illuminated, shifting through the seven colors of the rainbow, while the flow of traffic across it rged into a luminous dragon.
The waves of Tokyo Bay rolled in one after another, enveloping the world in the rushing sound of the ocean tide.
"I have a question." Ji Minghuan raised his eyes from his phone and looked out at the horizon, breaking the montary silence.
"What is it?"
The young woman's voice was always faint and airy, like an emotionless doll entirely detached from worldly affairs.
"Are you taking care of
like this just because you want to piss off that long-lived old hag who is obsessed with love?"
"I am not that bored," Ayase Origami said. "I just think it is fun."
"Fun?"
"Mhm."
Just then, his phone vibrated in his pocket and suddenly let out a sharp "ding."
Ji Minghuan pulled out his phone and glanced down. A red glowing dot had appeared on the app's map—this ant that the Exorcist Association's devices had detected the presence of a demon at that location.
And the location of this glowing dot perfectly overlapped with the location of the Card Event.
'Ho... as expected, this Card Event is related to a demon. Having Xia Pingzhou take down that demon kills two birds with one stone.' Thinking of this, Ji Minghuan turned to look at Ayase Origami.
Ayase Origami was quietly staring into the distance. The evening breeze lifted her beautiful black hair, revealing her pale cheeks, as a few strands gently brushed against her ear.
Ji Minghuan withdrew his gaze, pointed into the distance, and said to Ayase Origami,
"There is a demon over there. Can you take
to it?"
"Call
Master," the kimono girl said after a mont of silence.
"ow."
Ayase Origami was initially expressionless, but a mont later, she could not help but reveal an almost imperceptible smile. Lowering her eyes to the brightly lit street, her pale legs swung gently in the evening breeze.
Suddenly, a rustling sound echoed in their ears.
It was not the evening breeze.
Stack after stack of paper pages ca fluttering out from the loft, converging in mid-air to form a lifelike, massive dragon. Interlocking pages created its skeleton and filled in every joint. The overlapping sheets opened and closed in the wind like scales, rustling loudly as they whipped up a roaring gust of air pressure.
Facing this ten-ter-long paper dragon, Ji Minghuan's bangs were blown wildly into the air, a flash of surprise crossing his eyes.
'So this is the Near-Calamity Tier? Just casually whipping up a massive beast like this...'
The kimono girl stood up from the loft's roof and stepped onto the paper dragon's head. She turned to look at him, her pitch-black eyes fixed on his face.
"Co here," she said softly, extending her slender right hand toward him.
