Once she gathered her thoughts, Nie Cenjin took a deep breath, picked up her phone again, exited her WeChat Monts, and checked her ssages. She found that it was a ssage from Lu Shishu and started chatting with her.

Around eleven-thirty the next day, Nie Cenjin woke up groggily, still holding her phone. When she lit up the screen, there were several ssages from Lu Shishu: "Nie Cenjin, where are you?" "Hey, did you fall asleep?" "We haven’t even finished talking yet!" "Nie Cenjin, can we still hang out happily?"

After reading the ssages, Nie Cenjin sat up abruptly and quickly replied to her ssages.

Last night, Lu Shishu said she couldn’t sleep, so she tried to chat with her, and they talked until after three. At that point, Nie Cenjin gradually felt sleepy, and she fell asleep holding her phone. When she woke up, it was already this late.

Nie Cenjin waited for quite a while but didn’t get a reply from Lu Shishu. She guessed that she probably wasn’t awake yet either. Rembering that Ms. Qin ntioned last night that they would be having a family gathering with Jiang Baizhou’s family today, she imdiately started charging her phone, put on slippers, and went to wash up and change clothes.

The August weather in Nancheng was still scorching hot. Nie Cenjin wore a simple black T-shirt, paired with an asymtrical A-line skirt, and a fashionable pair of yellow flip-flops as she headed to the villa next door.

When she reached the doorway, Nie Cenjin hesitated, pacing outside for about three to four minutes. The midday sun was unforgiving, forcing her to make up her mind. Unable to endure it any longer, she gritted her teeth and turned to press the doorbell.

Just as her finger was about a centiter away from the doorbell, the door suddenly opened. A familiar handso face, unseen for four days, suddenly appeared clearly in her view. Nie Cenjin was instantly stunned, her hand suspended in mid-air, forgetting to pull it back for a long ti.

Jiang Baizhou looked at her, also slightly startled, but quickly regained his composure. His eyes twinkled with a hint of smile, but his face remained expressionless. One hand in his pants pocket, the other holding the door handle, his deep eyes gazed at her, and he casually spoke in a low-pitched voice, "Awake?"

"Yeah." Nie Cenjin nodded dazedly, staring unblinkingly at him.

They stared at each other like this, and Nie Cenjin, feeling a bit uneasy under his gaze, quickly averted her eyes, licked her dry lips, and coughed twice to conceal her current nervousness and panic: "Uh, cough, cough, are you going out?"

"Not now."

"Huh?"

"Aunt Qin asked to co and wake you up." Jiang Baizhou replied nonchalantly, glanced at the blazing sun outside, and stood aside: "Co on in."

"Oh, okay." Hearing this, Nie Cenjin hurried inside. She really couldn’t stand being outside any longer; it was practically boiling.

As Nie Cenjin walked into the house, Jiang Yuyang, who was drinking tea in the living room, looked over. Seeing it was Nie Cenjin, he imdiately put down his teacup, waved, and smiled warmly, "Nie Cenjin, co on, co on, have a cup of tea with Uncle Jiang."

"Uncle Jiang." Nie Cenjin walked over with a smile, "Any new discoveries from your trip to the mountains this ti?"

"Yes, yes, quite a few new discoveries." Jiang Yuyang replied with a smile, poured her a cup of tea, and started sharing interesting stories from Lu Mountain with her.

Listening intently, Nie Cenjin found the stories captivating, while Jiang Baizhou, sitting on a single-seater sofa, watched them chat so harmoniously but couldn’t join in. He found it sowhat dull.

Jiang Yuyang had always wanted a daughter, and since Nie Cenjin lived next door since she was young, both Yu Hui and Jiang Yuyang treated her like their own daughter. Moreover, Nie Cenjin also had an interest in archaeology, so Jiang Yuyang enjoyed sharing these things with her.
