Xander was in the library, walking past so bookshelves to see if anything would interest him enough to read. However, he wasn’t a bookworm and he despised books more than he despised his father.
He sighed, deciding to leave the huge library and head sowhere else when he nearly bumped into Samantha once more. And just like earlier, his heart nearly leaped out of his chest this ti around.
"Where do you keep jumping out from?" He questioned.
"I’m not jumping out from anywhere. You’re just the one who’s too focused on sothing to realize soone is nearby," she responded, walking past him to head to a shelf to pick a book.
She glanced up, blowing a few strands of hair off her face when she realized the book she wanted to read was high up the shelves.
"Can you bring down that book for , please?" She requested, turning to face Xander, who was still standing rooted on the ground and silently wondering if she was a ghost.
Ghosts wore whites anyway and she kept popping up everywhere like one.
Her request drove him out of his thoughts. He looked up at the shelf and asked, "Which one?"
"That one right there—the one with the dark cover," she pointed.
Xander grabbed the nearest ladder and brought it to the shelf. With great difficulty, he climbed the ladder to get the book.
When he climbed back down to check the book, his eyebrows instantly touched his hairline in shock as he tried to register what he was seeing.
The book had a dark cover with so skull realistic designs that scread morally gray with explicit smut scenes. He recognized such books because he’d seen Arabella reading sothing similar to it one ti.
"Why are you reading this?" He couldn’t help but ask.
"Because I like it." Her reply was short as if it was sothing obvious.
Samantha didn’t waste a second before she grabbed the book off his hands.
"How old are you?"
Samantha stared at him for a few seconds, wondering if she should tell him her age. "I’m twelve."
"You’re too young to read that book. Does your father know about this?"
Samantha scoffed silently as she rolled her eyes backward.
"He doesn’t know. And even if he does, he wouldn’t care," she responded.
Xander completely understood where the girl was coming from since he was in the sa situation.
He watched as Samantha walked towards a chair and took a seat.
"I’m an only child so I don’t have anyone to talk to but the servants, and sotis, I read books. That’s it! If you want to, you can co read with ," she offered, patting the empty seat beside her.
Xander cringed at the thought of reading explicit scenes where the male and female would act out porn throughout the book all in the na of plot. Whenever he saw Arabella reading such books, he couldn’t help but wonder how she was getting entertained.
"No, thanks! I have sowhere to go quickly," he replied.
"You’re leaving?" She asked, suddenly curious.
"Yes, I’m going to see soone, but I’ll be back soon," he said, waving her goodbye as he glanced up at the wall clock.
When he got downstairs, he found Bruce giving the butler so instructions, which had Xander wondering where his wife was.
"I want to go out to see soone real quick," he said, waiting for Bruce to prevent him from leaving the house.
Bruce only gave him a pointed look before he nodded. "Ask the driver to take you anywhere you want to go. Rember not to exert yourself. You’re still recovering," he reminded.
Xander left the house in the car Bruce had suggested.
It was already close to evening, and he could only hope the person he wanted to et was still where he expected them to be.
After a few minutes of being on the road, Xander finally arrived at his destination.
"I hope she’s still there," he mumbled under his breath as he thanked the driver and got out of the car.
Xander ran to the hair salon and what he saw next stunned him, forcing his legs to co to a halt as he felt a dagger digging into his chest.
"What’s going on here?" He demanded.
At the entrance of the salon, Arabella was a part-ti hair stylist too, she was in an awkward position with Xavier’s hand tightly wrapped around her waist to prevent her from falling.
The position looked so intimate any onlookers would think they were a couple.
When they heard Xander’s voice, their heads whipped to look at him.
"Arabella nearly fell—" Xavier didn’t get the chance to complete his sentences when Xander’s hard fist kissed his cheeks.
Arabella gasped in shock. Xander’s actions had completely caught her off guard.
"Xander, you need to stop," she said when she saw him grab Xavier by his collar, intending to smack him across the face one more ti but Xavier was quick to dodge the blow and deliver one of his one, leading Arabella to gasp one more ti as she covered her mouth with her hand in a state of shock.
"You need to calm down," said Xavier, wiping the blood off his lips.
"Arabella is my girlfriend. What gave you the right to touch her?" Xander questioned, glaring at Xander with so much animosity Xavier had never seen before. "You’ve always been the one in the spotlight and despite everything you have, you’re still not content?"
"You’re getting the whole situation wrong, Xander," Arabella said, tears already streaming down her face. "I slipped but Xavier caught before I could fall," She tried to explain but from Xander’s facial expression, it seed as if he didn’t hear what Arabella was telling him.
"I should have known you would try to take Arabella away from . You’re Xavier Wallace after all, your father’s son," he spewed.
"Can you even hear yourself?" Xavier question. "You’re talking like a maniac. Arabella nearly fell and all I did was to catch her."
"Yeah right! You think I’m going to believe that?"
