Lu Bai lay on the windowsill, observing secretly.
Shrimp Brother walked dazedly on the street, clearly in a muddled state.
As ntioned before, in places like Chikan Bay, criminal behavior is the norm.
Shrimp Brother’s appearance naturally made him easy to target.
Two n squatting at the alley entrance smoking noticed Shrimp Brother, exchanged a glance, then got up and walked toward him.
Shrimp Brother staggered to his feet, skirted the trash can, and continued forward.
But upon close observation, his gaze had no focus, like a walking corpse.
This ant the two n with ill intentions didn’t need to pick a fight; they just stood in Shrimp Brother’s path, waiting for him to bump into them.
And that’s exactly what happened.
Shrimp Brother crashed headfirst into one burly man’s chest, ending up sitting sprawled on the ground himself.
He shook his head, barely refocusing his vision: “Sorry about that.”
Shrimp Brother apologized instinctively, then planned to get up and keep walking.
However, the burly man had no intention of letting him off easily and suddenly reached out to grab his neck.
“What? Think a sorry is enough? Where’s there such a cheap deal in the world?”
The burly man had great strength, gripping Shrimp Brother’s neck tightly, making his face gradually flush red.
Shrimp Brother’s eyes turned red right after.
Not from grievance or fear, but from an unusually intense anger.
A hoarse sound ca from his throat as his fists pounded hard on the hand the burly man was using to choke him.
“Yo, pretty feisty.”
After all, with his neck being choked and unable to breathe, Shrimp Brother’s attacks couldn’t really affect the burly man.
The burly man even had ti to wink at his companion, and the two burst into laughter together.
The burly man laughed for a bit, then threw Shrimp Brother to the ground just before he passed out from suffocation.
The two circled Shrimp Brother, one in front and one behind. The burly man hiked up his pant leg, slowly squatted down, and conveniently slapped Shrimp Brother’s face a couple tis.
Shrimp Brother’s eyes were full of bloodshot veins, coughing hard, still not recovered from the suffocating sensation.
Seeing this, the burly man said without concern: “Little green hair, you bumped
pretty hard. Lucky for you we’re in a good mood today. How about this—you cough up ten or twenty thousand casually, and I’ll let it slide.”
Shrimp Brother clutched his neck, taking two deep breaths like a worn-out bellows.
Barely recovered, he imdiately glared viciously at the burly man.
“Cough! Cough… You dreaming? A shakedown landing on , Ma Qingyun?”
The burly man exchanged a covert glance with his companion, who asked softly: “Which crew you with?”
“Go to Heping Branch Road and ask around—who doesn’t know Little Horse Brother?”
Shrimp Brother tried to scare off the two n with his self-proclaid title, his expression fiercely nacing.
Unfortunately, he didn’t succeed.
“Little Horse Brother? Never heard of him.”
The two burly n weren’t scared; instead, they breathed a sigh of relief.
They had been worried this spur-of-the-mont shakedown might provoke a major faction in Chikan Bay, possibly forcing them to silence Shrimp Brother.
Now knowing he was a nobody, they no longer worried about any revenge.
“Damn, you almost scared . Looks like the compensation needs to go up so more, or it won’t cover our ntal loss.”
As the burly man said the latter half, he was about to smile at his buddy.
But with that glance up, he suddenly saw Lu Bai, who had appeared behind his companion at so point.
What shocked him most was the pistol in Lu Bai’s hand, its black hole muzzle gradually moving to his companion’s temple.
In desperation, the burly man reached out with his hand.
“Watch out…”
Bang!
Lu Bai smiled and pulled the trigger.
A blood hole appeared on the companion’s temple, and he collapsed lifelessly on the spot.
“You fucker!”
The burly man moved to stand up in rage.
But Lu Bai didn’t give him the chance; his figure suddenly disappeared from the spot.
When he reappeared, his hand was already pressed on the burly man’s forehead, slamming his head heavily to the ground.
After a dull, teeth-gritting thud, the burly man’s consciousness faded mostly away.
Lu Bai’s right hand slid down, locking the burly man’s throat, instantly suffocating him so he couldn’t even speak.
“Then let
ask you—which crew are you with?”
Lu Bai knelt on one knee, holding the pistol in one hand and choking the burly man’s throat tightly with the other.
“Heh, tough guy, huh? Guess I’ll have to oblige you.”
He smiled and increased the pressure; the burly man’s hands flailed wildly, struggling intensely.
But it was aningless; monts later, his eyes rolled back, and he suffocated to death.
Shrimp Brother: “Huh?” Wasn’t it possible he couldn’t speak because you were choking his neck?
He only dared to think that last part to himself now.
Lying between the two, he had a clear view of everything that just happened.
Watching the whole thing, Shrimp Brother was dumbfounded; from the shock, he unconsciously opened his mouth.
He hadn’t expected Lu Bai to co to his rescue, let alone that this seemingly harmless pretty boy had such great skill.
The contrast was too stark.
Especially Lu Bai’s calm in firing without even blinking, which gave Shrimp Brother an extre sense of terror and lingering fear.
How many people had he killed to be this nonchalant?
Thinking of his previous attitude toward Lu Bai, Shrimp Brother couldn’t help feeling a bit of relief at having survived.
But imdiately after, strong hope surged in his heart, unstoppable.
“Lu…”
“Lu Bai.” Lu Bai kindly reminded him.
“Oh oh, Brother Bai…”
Shrimp Brother, or rather Ma Qingyun, staggered to his knees before Lu Bai: “Please help , I beg you! Save Shrimp Girl—only you can help us now!”
Hearing this, Lu Bai raised an eyebrow.
“What do you an?”
…
Shrimp Brother was very emotional, telling it in fits and starts.
But Lu Bai still got the gist.
“You an a group of guys burst into the shop and took her away?”
He casually pulled Shrimp Brother up from the ground and calmly confird: “That’s a bit strange, isn’t it? What about the social activist groups on your side? They didn’t step in to stop it?”
“I went to Master Ma… Ma Anguo. That bunch has big backing; the old fart wouldn’t dare touch them.”
Shrimp Brother clenched his fists, his face full of furious emotion.
If not for Lu Bai’s formidable performance giving him hope, he’d have been ready to go alone and die.
“I see.”
Lu Bai nodded thoughtfully.
Never mind how clichéd this forced abduction was, the timing seed a bit too much of a coincidence.
