Capítulo 1926: Bustling Street Corner 2

After speaking, he pulled out the wood-handled hand grenade and placed it on the windowsill, and stuck his rifle out the window: “Hey! I’m ready!”

The Elf Soldiers at the street corner heard their comrade’s shout and made a gesture to indicate they knew. Then, they continued firing from cover, not knowing what they were shooting at.

From this window, the enemy was nowhere in sight, and the Elf Nurse huddled in the corner, not daring to move: Where had she seen warfare in its true form? Now that she’s seen it, where is the romance?

Now she couldn’t see the battle outside, but the battle wouldn’t stop just because she couldn’t see. Just seconds later, a small figure suddenly rushed down the street, crashing beside the Elf Soldiers gathered at the corner.

It was a small remote-controlled aircraft. Although the Great Tang Empire hadn’t yet produced intelligent drones, crafting remote-controlled planes with caras and bombs wasn’t difficult.

Anyway, the enemy had no ans of interference; similar items could evidently serve the sa function on the battlefield as drones.

This “drone” crashed right at the feet of several Elf Soldiers, and then the bomb on it exploded, countless fragnts imdiately engulfing the Elf Soldiers like a storm.

Completely unprepared, the Elf Soldiers staggered and fell silent. About a few seconds later, two managed to stagger up from the ground, evidently needing ti to shake off the daze from the explosion to figure out directions.

But those closer to the explosion’s center clearly couldn’t make it. Their uniforms were soaked with blood, and one arm was still moving, but it seed unlikely they could be saved.

The Elf Soldier at the window watched in agony but couldn’t do anything; even if he ran down, he wasn’t a dic.

As he watched the Elf Soldiers struggle at the corner, a huge figure suddenly appeared nearby.

The gun barrel of a 96 main battle Tank erged first, followed by the rolling treads and the cold, hard body of the Tank.

“Damn!” cursed the Elf Soldier, then pulled the bolt to load the bullet, and without hesitation, he pulled the trigger at the Tank: “Bang!”

The bullet struck the Tank’s thick armor without even sparking. Unable to see where his bullet hit, the Elf Soldier upstairs continued to pull the bolt, preparing to reload his rifle.

Seeing the Tank at the street corner, the struggling Elf Soldiers realized the danger. They grabbed their fallen comrades’ submachine guns and ran without looking back: It was unrealistic for light infantry to fight against the Armored Corps; they’d be crushed in seconds.

During the retreat, there was no concern for anything else; the riflen couldn’t even take the magazines from their comrades’ bodies and fled miserably.

Upstairs, the firing Elf Soldier also realized his rifle was unlikely to trouble the Tank below. So he set down the rifle, unscrewed the hand grenade cap, and pulled out the string.

Focused entirely on the Tank, he didn’t notice the Tang Army Soldiers following the Tank to the corner; they had already spotted him hiding above.

The Tang Army Squad Leader tapped the sharpshooter’s shoulder and pointed to the high window. The sharpshooter raised his rifle, aiming at the dangerous target preparing to throw the hand grenade.

In the four-tis scope, the target at this distance was crystal clear, and the sharpshooter calmly pressed the crosshair onto the Elf Soldier.

“Bang!” After a crisp gunshot, the Elf Nurse huddled in the corner heard a heavy thud. Nervously opening her eyes, she saw the soldier who had been firing from the window now lying on the ground, motionless.

His Steel Helt rolled aside, the cap unscrewed, the string pulled out, the hand grenade still in his hand, un-ignited. His face turned away, making it impossible for the nurse to see what he looked like.

Below, the Tank engine’s roaring didn’t cease, although the gunfire rang sparsely. Soon, as the nurse cowered in the corner, she heard footsteps coming upstairs, the sound of boots on the wooden stairs.

The two Tang Army Soldiers who ca up to check imdiately saw the body lying on the floor, noticing the spreading blood and the hole in the Elf Soldier’s chest.

“Clear!” A soldier lowered his rifle, then saw a terrified Elf girl squatting in the corner: “There’s another one… should be civilian.”

The veteran who followed him felt displeased, yelling “clear” before checking the room entirely was foolish. He scanned the room carefully once more, walked to the corpse, and bent over to grab the hand grenade from its hand.

Holding the hand grenade, he went to the Elf girl, looking down to confirm: “Are you a civilian?”

“I, am…” The Elf Nurse also saw the body on the ground; although she wasn’t new to death, witnessing two humans shoot an Elf in Ruoslaina was the first of her life, making her nervous.

“Don’t stand by the window any ti soon, easy to get hit mistakenly,” the veteran advised, then gestured to the outside and tossed the Mauser Rifle on the windowsill.

“Check him for any weapons,” the veteran instructed and left with the hand grenade.

“Don’t be afraid, you’re safe now,” the young recruit smiled at the girl. Frankly, he wasn’t handso, and in Ruoslaina with its streets full of beautiful people… his smile was more likely deed a frightening grimace.

Sure enough, the Elf Nurse grew more anxious, grasping her collar instinctively as she pondered his intent of leaving only one person.

The Tang Empire soldier ant no breach of discipline, rummaging through the body without finding pistols or hand grenades, he tossed the compressed biscuits and other items from the soldier’s pocket onto the girl’s bed.

This move almost made the Elf Nurse cry: thinking this human intended to trade these for her body…

However, the situation unfolded quite awkwardly: the man seed more interested in the body than her, dragging it by the collar into the hallway: “Sorry to bother you, ma’am, goodbye.”

When he left, he even closed the broken door for her, leaving only the sticky blood on the floor…

For a mont, the Elf Nurse was unsure whether to be grateful he was a gentleman or upset he showed no interest.

But when she regained her bearings, the Tank’s engine sound had faded, and the human soldier who helped remove the body was long gone.

The battle of Ruoslaina had just begun, but the street warfare seed over. Aside from the Elf Soldiers’ bodies at the corner and the shallow crater beside them, it seed nothing else had changed…

Oh, and a broken door…
