The good news is that the family still has so savings, so they’re not completely out of money yet. The man sighed and said anxiously, "I guess we can’t buy any. I asked my friend at the factory, and even factories can’t get food now."

If resources weren’t so scarce, relatively important factories would definitely be able to provide workers with so necessities for sustenance.

After all, even in the toughest tis, maintaining factory production is incredibly important. Frontline soldiers can be conscripted to fill ranks, but if weapons and ammunition are in short supply, there are no solutions.

"What will we do then? A family needs to eat, and if we can’t find food tomorrow, we’ll be starving." The woman sat next to the man, her eyes filled with worry. Her father had visited earlier, saying that business had completely stopped, and the family’s food supply was almost gone.

The man chewed on the flavorless beans, letting the hard, uncooked skins roll around in his mouth as he gazed out the window. "Going hungry is the least of our worries. If humans attack, we don’t even know what kind of suffering we’ll endure."

Upon hearing this, the woman beca visibly frightened. "What? Humans are going to attack? Are they coming for Ruoslaina? Darling, don’t scare !"

The two children were playfully fighting at the dinner table, oblivious to their parents’ conversation. In their world, spoons were swords, and they were knights engaged in a duel.

Of course, no one told them that tis had changed; now, the outco of a war was no longer decided by rifles... those more terrifying weapons could change the fate of an ordinary family at any mont.

The man thought it best to share the situation with his woman since he had so knowledge on the matter. "Why would I scare you? It looks like the human military is only a few hundred kiloters away from Ruoslaina."

"Isn’t that still very far?" The woman clearly had no concept of distance in kiloters, and the man’s estimates weren’t entirely accurate either.

"You don’t understand. I guess they’re already near Martes." The man shook his head, aware of the current flight distances. Since those Intruder Attack Aircraft were already hovering over Ruoslaina, it proved that the Tang Army was indeed closing in.

Moreover, airports are typically located away from the actual front lines. This ans the Tang Army’s ground troops would have to completely control and repair the airport before deploying planes.

In other words, the Tang Army’s ground troops should be closer to Ruoslaina than the airport. It’s possible that they are already near Mates City or even starting to attack it.

"What? They’ve reached Mates City? What, what should we do?" The woman may not have understood the distance, but she was very familiar with Mates City. So hearing about it scared her imnsely.

...

Similar conversations were happening in every corner of Ruoslaina, with people gleaning changes in the war from various details.

For instance, soldiers on the streets were increasing, and the recruitnt office was becoming more active. Many places outside the city had turned into military zones, with nurous people being conscripted to build fortifications outside the city.

Original farms beca strategic locations, with trenches dug and reinforced with sandbags; so were capped with wooden roofs and covered with sand for reinforcent.

However, due to ti constraints, many of these fortifications were rely rudintary, with very few eting standards. Nobody knew when the Tang Army would arrive or when this place would beco a real battlefield.

About 70 kiloters from Ruoslaina, in a small village, elf soldiers were ordered to load all the food they could find onto trucks.

A few farrs helplessly begged the soldiers to leave them so food, but the ard elf soldiers could only coldly carry out orders.

If they didn’t seize this food, their troops soon wouldn’t have anything to eat. Hence, they had to choose between starving themselves or the civilians, opting to starve others.

"Move aside! We’re just following orders!" A soldier slamd the truck door shut, shouting at the farrs still pleading, "The Tang Army is coming soon; you better hurry to escape. You’ll find sothing to eat along the way."

"Sir!" The elf farrs retained the habit of calling people sir, bowing with bitterness and pleading tearfully, "Leave us so! Even if we’re fleeing, leave us sothing..."

"Didn’t we leave you so?" The soldier frowned, impatiently heading towards the truck’s cab. They were acting on orders, and indeed, they left those troubleso farrs so food.

However... how much they left and what they left was entirely up to their conscience. There wasn’t much edible stuff in the farrs’ possession to begin with, and if too much was left, the soldiers couldn’t account for it upon returning.

Before the farrs could say more, a gunshot startled everyone, causing them to instinctively hunch their shoulders.

The gunfire ca so suddenly, catching them off guard. The elf soldiers alongside the trucks quickly took their Mauser Rifles off their shoulders, frantically working the bolts and searching for the source of the gunfire.

An elf soldier, clutching his rifle, hurriedly ran over, pointing breathlessly toward the village entrance, "Tang, Tang Army! The Tang Army is attacking!"

His words were like a stone cast into water; the pleading elf farrs scattered like birds and beasts, while the remaining elf soldiers were thrown into chaos.

Just then, a Tang Army wheeled armored vehicle charged out from the forest nearby, followed by a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle erging from the shrubbery at the forest’s edge, aiming its turret at the village.

The Tang Army ca too swiftly, leaving the elf soldiers in the village completely unprepared: they hadn’t received any warnings about Tang Army activities nearby.

Even their superiors were unaware that the Tang Army had advanced so far; they assud the Tang Army was near Martes, with many even unaware that Martes had already fallen to the Tang Army.

"Oh my god!" The earlier elf soldier, entirely devoid of his previous arrogance, dropped his weapon and hugged his head, darting into a corner. Behind him, the other elf soldiers fared little better, dodging the Tang Army’s barrels with heads down.

Soon after, the Tang Army’s armored reconnaissance vehicle entered the village, and the truck-driving elf soldier didn’t dare move. He raised his hands beside the truck, fearing the approaching Tang Army vehicle might misunderstand sothing.

If he really started the truck to flee, he’d likely be riddled by the 30mm autocannon mounted on the armored vehicle.

The two trucks thus beca Tang Army’s spoils, and all the elf soldiers failed to escape, becoming captives of the Tang Army’s reconnaissance unit.

When the elf civilians gathered the courage to check the situation, they saw the once troubleso elf soldiers squatting by the truck with heads held down, their weapons nearby, while several oddly dressed human soldiers stood by, speaking into their black boxes.

They didn’t know that radios could be made so compact, nor understood the functions of camouflage uniforms and tactical vests. These farrs dared not approach, observing from afar the two obviously superior human war machines compared to the elf trucks.

Later, they retrieved their own food, which delighted them. And on this day, the Tang Army was only... 70 kiloters from Ruoslaina.
