When the first Tang Army soldier walked into Mates City and saw this still rather magnificent city, he really did not expect such a city could be occupied without firing a single shot.
He nervously looked at the Elf civilians standing on both sides of the street. If it weren’t for the large white flag still hanging on the city wall, he wouldn’t even have the courage to face so many people.
But it was fine; besides him, his comrades were also there. Seven soldiers were standing on the street with assault rifles, with an infantry fighting vehicle that brought them all here parked behind them.
"Wow... it really is quite a nice city." Leaning on the hatch cover of the turret, the commander of the infantry fighting vehicle remarked.
Traditional Elf Race architecture lined both sides of the street, and occasionally there were the modern high-rise buildings of reinforced concrete that had sprung up in recent years. The entire city, though not as prosperous as those in the Great Tang Empire, was still quite a reputable place in its own right.
"What should we do? Occupy the Lord’s Mansion?" A soldier walked beside his squad leader and asked in a low voice.
The squad leader of this chanized infantry class scratched his back neck with so embarrassnt and looked up at the commander: "We should be doing sothing, right? But it’s my first ti encountering such a situation."
"Haven’t we already reported the situation upwards? I guess the reinforcent troops would be coming soon?" The commander called out, slightly guilty. His words caused the Elf Race officers around to feel extrely awkward because just the Elf Soldiers gathered here numbered almost 100 people.
So many soldiers surrendering to seven or eight humans was simply a disgrace for the Elf Race officers. But there was nothing they could do; their highest commander had fled, and the Lord of the City ordered them to surrender.
Now they had surrendered as ordered, and logically, they had lost the chance to resist. Even if it’s humiliating and embarrassing, they had to take responsibility for their decision.
Moreover... stirring up trouble might be easy right now and might even succeed. But the following Tang Army wouldn’t be reasoning with them, and it might even lead to a massacre.
"Alas..." Feeling inexperienced and ashad of the embarrassnt brought to his troops, the Tang Army Squad Leader slung his assault rifle onto his back and approached an Elf Officer, asking: "How many troops do you have in the barracks outside the city?"
"This...this question is not easy to answer." The officer spoke hesitantly, stamring: "When I left, there should have been at least 2000 n, but, but now... maybe 1500?"
His tone was so uncertain because he really couldn’t say a definitive number: there was nothing he could do, as soldiers were fleeing every mont, and he didn’t have the mood to restrain them, so he didn’t know how many were left.
Those who stayed weren’t crazy hoping to fight a battle with the Tang Army but were soldiers unsure of where to go: so had their hotowns occupied by the Tang Army, and others were just trying their luck, hoping to get by with a al.
As they were talking, the crowd stirred, and soon a convoy appeared outside the city. One massive ngshi Jeep after another drove into Mates City and then parked on the crowded streets.
The doors of these Jeeps were pushed open, and several fully ard Tang Army Soldiers jumped out of the vehicles, forming a simple defensive formation on both sides of the convoy.
And on the rooftops of these vehicles, soldiers erged half their bodies holding down the barrels of large-caliber machine guns, watching the awkward Elf soldiers not far away with vigilance.
These Elf Soldiers had already been disard, and their weapons were left in the barracks. They followed to maintain order on the scene. So when they were aid at with weapons, they instinctively beca frightened, and the atmosphere beca sowhat eerie.
"What are they doing?" An ensign, evidently of a much higher rank than a chanized infantry squad leader, walked out from the convoy. He approached the infantry fighting vehicle and asked the squad leader who had arrived here first.
Finally, a senior officer had co, and the squad leader breathed a sigh of relief. He briefly introduced the situation and pointed at the sowhat uneasy Elf Soldiers: "They are here to maintain order. We have already controlled this place..."
"You call this control?" The ensign laughed, but he seed less wary now than at the beginning: "Alright, I’m under orders to support here. Since they have already surrendered, let them return to their hos imdiately! We will ensure everyone’s safety, so there’s no need to be afraid! Disperse imdiately! Do not walk aimlessly in the streets!"
He loudly issued orders while shouting to the distant Elf Officers: "Call your persons in charge over here! We need to verify so things! Try your best to cooperate with us! Don’t make a ss of things!"
Suddenly, the scene beca noisy again, and civilians began to disperse under the driving of the Elf soldiers, making the street emptier.
The Tang Army convoy pulled apart so distance, controlling a longer stretch, and then, subsequently, so trucks and armored vehicles began to enter Mates.
Because the surrender of this city was too sudden, the Tang Army hadn’t prepared for it. It wasn’t until dinner that day that the first Great Tang Empire Dragon Banner was raised on the flagpole of the Lord’s Mansion in Mates City.
