Chapter 1268: 1187 Childhood mories

The goblins under flank attack were already disoriented. Their commander dispatched dozens of soldiers to launch a counterattack on the flank once more.

They tried to drive away the enemy near the village flank, but behind the enemy stood a Lion-type armored reconnaissance vehicle, equipped with a powerful 75-caliber cannon. For a mont, neither side could prevail over the other.

When the Orc troops advanced past the smoke-sealed zone, both sides’ vision gradually improved. The smoke grenades were dissipating, and both sides’ firing points began to have an effect.

The Orc machine gunners, who had long been impatient, comnced their strafing, the MG42 machine gun’s chainsaw-like sound echoed across the battlefield.

Tracer bullets rained down on the goblin trenches, forcing the exposed goblins back into their tunnels, while the wood barricades reminiscent of chevaux-de-frise were smashed by a No. 4 tank.

Upon seeing the No. 4 tank, chaos started among the goblins stationed in the village. So soldiers began to jump out of the trenches to flee, but these mindless recruits were quickly bullet-stricken.

Yet there were soldiers still frantically escaping, even the goblin enforcent team couldn’t stop these barely trained farrs from holding their positions.

It’s hopeless, the shock from a No. 4 tank to ordinary people was too imnse; they didn’t dare approach the colossal being gyrating its torso.

In the trenches, goblin soldiers preparing for anti-tank attacks twisted the safety pins off the Sting Thunder grenades, massive explosive bundles equipped with collision fuses that could blow both the tank and the Sting Thunder users sky-high.

Only fanatics dared use such things; the troops would distribute these individuals across various units, assigning them anti-tank tasks.

Of course, these suicidal “Sting Thunder attack experts” couldn’t guarantee 100% success rates, so the anti-tank capabilities of various troops were actually unreliable.

So experienced Sting Thunder attackers had previously participated in combat as infantry, hence they had better thods to approach tanks, making their attack success rates relatively higher.

But if a fanatic was simply bold enough to seek death without understanding combat, he was likely to fail… this goblin unit might have a weaker anti-tank capability.

The first goblin soldier leapt out of the trench, gripping the long pole of the Sting Thunder and sprinting towards the Tang Army’s tank. But after just a couple of strides, he was shot by an Orc soldier covering the tank from the side, collapsing on the path forward.

The second goblin soldier imdiately followed, shouting as he charged at the orc tank. However, he also failed; the Orc’s firepower was too concentrated, rendering the suicidal approach near the tank impossible.

“Boom!” The No. 4 tank’s turret erupted in flas. The short-barreled 75mm cannon launched a shell, directly hitting the collapsed wall of the village, exploding and raising a cloud of dust.

The goblin soldiers, under imnse pressure, couldn’t hold themselves anymore; disregarding their superiors’ scolds, they discarded their weapons and started to rout.

No one dared to look back, over a hundred goblin soldiers fled into the village like that. The orc troops jumped into the trenches, cleared out several resisting soldiers, then coordinated with the tanks to continue the advance into the village.

Their movents were very adept, and the coordination between infantry and tanks was rather systematic. The goblin soldiers attempting to rely on the house ruins for defense collapsed once more, lacking heavy weapons, and none of the remaining Sting Thunders found users courageous enough to use them.

Though RPG rockets occasionally seized in Dingcheng provided the goblin engineers so inspiration, their frail industry and almost defunct production capacity didn’t allow them to replicate the Tang Empire’s new portable anti-tank weapons.

The battle soon approached its conclusion, approximately over 300 goblin soldiers retreated in defeat, leaving 200 corpses scattered across the village.

A regint routed by just one tank, two armored vehicles, and a platoon of infantry from the Orc army — this significantly reflected the severe decline in goblin units’ combat capabilities.

The orcs did not continue their attack; they were rely ordered to capture this village. Given their limited force, they truly couldn’t push forward any further.

After all, not all units were like the Tang Empire’s troops, courageous enough to relentlessly organize attacks and advance with scattered units and minimal force.

“Report!” An officer entered Shenwu Ke’s office, stood upright, saluted, and presented a docunt to this army Great General: “Great General! Just received news, Orc forces have mounted the Shen Capital’s periter defense line!”

“Oh?” Shenwu Ke grabbed the telegram, glanced at the content: “So they finally arrived! What’s the situation?”

“They captured one of our villages and then showed no intention to continue the attack. An armored corps is moving on our side flank, seemingly preparing to enter my 1st Armored Division’s defense area.” The officer imdiately responded.

“Surrounding us… still the old tactic.” Shenwu Ke gave a bitter smile as he assessed the situation. He felt that the Orcs had no real tactics to speak of, relying entirely on the unlimited resources provided by the Great Tang Empire to act recklessly.

Unfortunately, this kind of encirclent was lethal for him, as the Shen Army had now left their strong fortifications and truly couldn’t do anything against the Orcs.

As long as the supply lines were cut and the Shen Army was surrounded, with a lack of weapons and ammunition, they could only sit and wait for death. This move had been used so many tis that even he was about to learn it.

However, this ti he was sowhat prepared, as Shen Capital, being the King City of Mirage Country, still had ample reserves of food and ammunition.

Moreover, they had their backs to the sea, with a river running through the city, making it impossible to be completely cut off and not short of water! Unlike the Central Fortification Region that is more passive.

Co on! Let them co! Let’s see if we can make the Orcs forever rember the power of the Goblins here! Shenwu Ke clenched his fists and ordered, “Make sure the 1st Armored Division stays steady! Do not leave their defensive zone to fight, to avoid being targeted by Tang Nation Air Force’s strikes!”

It was not the Orcs that he feared, but the Tang Nation planes behind the Orcs! Those planes were truly formidable, and it looked like the current Shen Capital was about to beco a complete ruin.

This was just the outer defense line of Shen Capital. When those Orc scumbags approached the core defense line, they would know how troubleso the defense line prepared by the Goblins for humanity truly was!

Amidst these defense lines, he had also taken the drastic step of laying a large number of landmines. The Orcs would pay a heavy price as long as they crossed these minefields.

Despite having lost air superiority, so hidden airstrips in the northern part of Mirage Country’s Ben Island were still capable of launching planes to disrupt the Orc Air Force! The few remaining Goblin Pilots would still bravely fight, battling till the last mont for the Shen Emperor.

“Inform Your Majesty the Shen Emperor… the enemy is moving towards Shen Capital’s flank, attempting to encircle our troops. For the sake of Your Majesty’s safety, please consider leaving Shen Capital and moving to the Northern Region,” Shenwu Ke added as the officer was about to leave.

“Yes!” The officer stood at attention, bowed his head, then turned to leave.

Shenwu Ke looked out the window at the distant, lingering thick smoke, unsure of what he was thinking: that plu of smoke was left by a Scud missile just now; the Great Tang Empire still maintained their habit of launching one missile a day as if it were a lottery draw.

The faint sound of fire alarms could still be heard, and after nearly a hundred Scud missiles’ devastation, this city was in ruins. It seed like a wasteland, except it was crowded with refugees and troops, bustling and not desolate.

He could hardly recall how it used to look, the busy harbor once filled with Navy warships, now leaving only broken docks. In the past, the factories with their towering chimneys belching smoke were now unseen.

The foul-slling streets, which Shenwu Ke used to detest, now felt incredibly dear to him… only now, they could no longer be seen.

Now the city was full of craters, the power plant was no longer functional, and the water plant had beco ruins. The city’s people had returned to a lifestyle from decades ago, one Shenwu Ke was familiar with from his childhood.

Everyone crowded around the wells, and fierce officials cursed with venomous words, while horse-drawn and ox-drawn carts left piles of dung on the streets…

Shenwu Ke’s childhood was spent in such an environnt; he really didn’t expect at that ti that war could develop to this extent.

In his childhood, he often fantasized about becoming a Great General, so at thirty-four, when he distinguished himself due to his military achievents to beco the “Supervisor of the Army” of Mirage Country, he truly brimd with ambition, dreaming of becoming a fad general of his generation.

Who would have known that later, due to the influence of Tang Country, Mirage Country underwent a series of military reforms. The position he was familiar with beca “Major General,” and later he was promoted to “Lieutenant General” for his strong support of the military reforms.

By the ti he beca the premier military general of Mirage Country, flintlock rifles had been replaced by machine guns and bolt-action rifles, and the front-loaded cannon had been supplanted by large-caliber breech-loaded artillery—war had completely changed in nature.

Before he could adapt, planes and tanks had already appeared, and his position as Great General of Mirage Country started being overshadowed by Navy admirals! There was no way he could debate the rits of sea and land with Shen Haiping, when just looking at those Navy super warships, there was nothing left to argue.

Shenwu Ke spent his childhood in Shen Capital… he would never leave this place! Absolutely not! Even if it turned to rubble, he had to stand here!

With this thought in mind, Shenwu Ke steeled himself, returned to his desk, and prepared to resu handling affairs.

But before he could pick up his pen, the piercing sound of an air raid siren blared once again. Soon, his adjutant rushed in to report the enemy air raid situation: “Radar has detected incoming enemy aircraft! Great General! Please enter the air-raid shelter!”
