Lu Jingyan’s first thought was to run away, but before she could act, Sheng Xian turned around.
Lu Jingyan was forced to abandon her intended move to turn and flee, feeling a guilt akin to being caught red-handed by a teacher while doing sothing bad at school.

“You should’ve said so earlier,” said Lu Jingyan, tilting her head and biting the rim of her glass, with a mockingly nonchalant tone, “Sister.”
Sheng Xian ground his back teeth hard, “Lu Jingyan.”
Lu Jingyan, as if she hadn’t heard him, continued on her own, “Isn’t ‘sister’ a bit too indistinct? Then… Sheng Sister? Xian Sister?”

Sheng Xian closed his eyes briefly and slowly exhaled, his voice notably deeper than before, “Lu Jingyan.”
Lu Jingyan feigned a shiver, without actually trembling, and spoke in what sounded like a tremulous voice, “Sister, are you going to hit ? I’m so scared.”
Sheng Xian’s gaze was heavy as he looked at her, not speaking any further.
Just as Lu Jingyan thought he’d turn around and leave in a huff, he suddenly sighed, sounding frustrated and helpless, “Ayan.”
Lu Jingyan paused for a mont.
Sheng Xian cast his gaze downward, the shadows of his long eyelashes darkening beneath his eyes. When he spoke again, his tone was soft and utterly gentle, “Ayan, you’ve been avoiding
for days.”

Lu Jingyan pursed her lips, not really wanting to admit it, “When have I avoided you?”
No sooner had she spoken than Chen Kai popped up from beside her, “Yan Bao, Yan Bao, my brother just ssaged , asking where I am. I didn’t think much at the ti and sent him my location. Then I asked him what’s up, if he was coming over, but he didn’t reply. The more I thought about it, the more I felt sothing was off. I kept feeling like my brother might co over. Don’t you want to avoid my brother recently? Do you want to hide for a bit?”
Lu Jingyan: “…”
The bar was noisy, and Chen Kai’s voice was incredibly loud, “Yan Bao, I know the back door, I’ll take you out that way, so you don’t bump into my brother head-on at the main entrance.”

Sheng Xian glanced at Chen Kai indifferently, “Hmm, t him.”
As if soone had grabbed his throat, Chen Kai’s eyes bulged as he stared at Sheng Xian, looking like they were about to pop out.
The scene was as if frozen in place, lasting for about three seconds.
Chen Kai scratched his head, instantly turning obsequious, “Bro, you’re here? Bro, what would you like to drink? Bro, I’ll get it for you.”
Sheng Xian: “No need, go play.”
“Then bro, I’ll go find my friends. Order whatever you want, just put it on my tab,” Chen Kai said, as if granted amnesty, and he scurried off without looking back.
Once again, only the two of them were left in front of the bar.
Lu Jingyan silently cursed Chen Kai over and over, then looked up at Sheng Xian.
Noticing her gaze, Sheng Xian turned to her, “Why are you avoiding ?”
This question left Lu Jingyan with no way to respond.
She couldn’t possibly tell him, “I, Lu Jingyan, thought you, Sheng Xian, had been harboring a crush on
for years. Running to see you as a grateful girl, I even deleted WeChat friends for over two hours for your sake. After all that effort, it turned out I was just flattering myself. There was never anything between us—it was all a fignt of my imagination. I felt so embarrassed, the kind of embarrassnt that made
not want to face the world anymore, so I could only avoid you.”
She knew the answer, but she couldn’t say it.
Had he not asked, it would have been fine, but with his question, she felt like picking a fight with him.
Not only did she now have a psychological shadow over Valentine’s Day, but she also had one over her own birthday. There were only so many holidays in a year, and because of him, two were completely ruined.
Lu Jingyan glared at Sheng Xian, fighting back the impulse to ruin him as well and turned to walk away. But she hadn’t gone more than two steps when her wrist was caught.
Lu Jingyan stopped in her tracks and looked down at his hand, her fingertips curling slightly. Without thinking, she tried to shake off his grasp.
She didn’t break free.
She shook again, but he held on even tighter.
With annoyance written all over her face, she turned around, the word “let go” not even reaching her lips before she heard his voice.
“Mine.”
His voice was soft, the surroundings were loud, and Lu Jingyan thought she had misheard. She paused and then looked up.
He took a deep breath and, looking into her eyes, slowly said, “It is all my fault, so don’t be upset anymore.”
