Chapter 102: Chapter 100 I Guess My Adolescence has Really Arrived
The family doctor had known Lu Jingyan for many years and was well aware that she was not the type to care for others.
Yet there she was, for a man, both filming videos and clutching her phone to note down reminders, seriously and earnestly as if the man’s cut was not on his hand but on his chest.
The family doctor rembered being in the middle of seeing a patient when he suddenly received a call from Lu Jingyan.
She, in a flurry of urgency, instructed him to clear his schedule, making him think sothing life or death had happened.
So there he was, anxiously standing at the hospital entrance for ten minutes, only to find it was just a superficial cut that any street clinic could handle.
After making sure she had noted everything, Lu Jingyan finally said to the family doctor, “Goodbye.”
The family doctor returned the farewell and sized up Sheng Xian, unable to suppress a laugh: “Jingyan has learned to care about others now, huh?”
Lu Jingyan uttered an “Ah,” feeling sowhat guilty.
As if the family doctor had sohow pinpointed what was on her mind.
She instinctively glanced at Sheng Xian next to her.
Sheng Xian’s face was expressionless, seemingly not taking the family doctor’s comnt to heart.
After saying goodbye to the doctor, the two walked to the parking lot.
On the way, Sheng Xian took a phone call from his assistant asking him to go to the police station to give a statent.
Once in the car, Lu Jingyan asked, “Are we still going to the court?”
Sheng Xian leaned in the passenger seat, looking out the window, responding sowhat nonchalantly with a “Hmm.”
Everything looked normal, and the uneasy feeling slowly dissipated from Lu Jingyan’s heart.
Sheng Xian continued to stare out the window. Lu Jingyan thought he was daydreaming, until one ti during a lane change, she glanced at the side-view mirror on his side and caught his gaze in the reflection.
Lu Jingyan froze for a mont before looking straight ahead.
After a while, she glanced his way again and t his gaze once more in the mirror.
His expression was casual, and he seed relaxed, but his eyes were boldly fixated on her.
Lu Jingyan then realized he wasn’t spacing out at all but had been thoughtfully watching her the whole ti.
Their eyes t, and he showed no sign of looking away—in fact, he beca more brazen, staring directly into her eyes unblinkingly.
Lu Jingyan felt sowhat helpless under his gaze; she tightened her grip on the steering wheel and slowly returned her gaze to the road ahead, yet her peripheral vision couldn’t help but drift his way now and then.
He was still watching her.
With no intention of stopping.
Could it be because of what the family doctor said earlier?
After thinking, Lu Jingyan cleared her throat, “Don’t overthink it, the reason I’m taking care of you is that you took care of .”
After saying this, Lu Jingyan felt it was sowhat out of character for her.
In front of Sheng Xian, she was always straightforward in teasing him; when did she beco so subtle?
Thinking this, Lu Jingyan added forcefully, “Besides, brother, you’re injured and need soone to care for you. How could I miss such a great opportunity?”
Exactly.
That was more like sothing she, Lu Jingyan, would say.
Sheng Xian humd in response.
His attitude was quite nonchalant, and it was unclear whether he had heard her or not.
His gaze didn’t leave the rearview mirror, looking sowhat deep, as if contemplating sothing.
Lu Jingyan thought, how is anyone supposed to drive like this?
Lu Jingyan tried to focus straight ahead, doing her best to ignore Sheng Xian beside her.
Two minutes later, Lu Jingyan, unable to bear it any longer, slamd the brakes, stopping in the middle of the road and honked the horn forcefully: “Can you stop staring like that?”
The shrill beep startled Sheng Xian, who slowly turned his gaze toward her: “Hmm?”
Lu Jingyan: “Can you stop staring at the rearview mirror and distract
from watching the road?”
Sheng Xian nodded silently.
Seeing that he finally stopped looking at the mirror, Lu Jingyan stepped on the gas again.
After a while, as if he had just understood what she said, Sheng Xian turned to ask, “Why does it distract you?”
“…”
Lu Jingyan opened her mouth, then opened it again, unable to answer.
Right, why does it distract you?
Three seconds later, Lu Jingyan blinked: “Brother, you’re so handso. Every ti I look in the rearview mirror, I see your face; how can I feel like driving?”
Lu Jingyan thought to herself, she was indeed very clever.
Thinking this, she added: “Don’t believe ? Brother, imagine if you were driving and a stunning beauty was sitting in the passenger seat, her face right against the rearview mirror. Every ti you turn your head, you see her. Wouldn’t you get distracted?”
Sheng Xian followed Lu Jingyan’s hypothetical scenario, picturing her in the passenger seat, and every ti he turned his head while driving, he could see her through the rearview mirror.
“…” Three seconds later, Sheng Xian humd: “It would be quite distracting.”
Unaware of what Sheng Xian was really thinking, Lu Jingyan, believing it was her clever wit that diffused the situation, contentedly continued to drive.
That interruption made Sheng Xian seem much more normal, and he no longer stared at her in the mirror.
He lazily flicked the locked screen of his phone now and then.
Thinking of how he had been fixated on her reflection in the rearview mirror, he chuckled in disbelief as if he had encountered sothing absurd and muttered softly, “I’ve really fallen hard.”
Lu Jingyan didn’t catch what he said but knew he was speaking, so she looked his way: “What?”
Sheng Xian remained silent.
Just when Lu Jingyan thought he was going to ignore her, he lifted his eyes slightly: “It’s nothing.”
After a pause, Sheng Xian added, “Just thought of sothing.”
“What thing?”
Sheng Xian fell silent again.
Lu Jingyan pursed her lips, thinking it was annoying to start a conversation and then leave it hanging.
As they arrived at the police station, Lu Jingyan parked the car, just about to open the door, when Sheng Xian suddenly spoke up: “I was thinking…”
He seed hesitant, pausing for about ten seconds, then glanced at her, raised his hand to rub his neck, and said lazily, “I guess puberty has finally hit .”
