Chapter 144: 144 Mr. Hale’s counter-kill, no rcy Chapter 144: 144 Mr. Hale’s counter-kill, no rcy William Hale picked up the room card, room 2808, likely the top floor suite. He smiled, “Uncle, you’ve gone through a lot of trouble.”
Then, he put the room card into his pocket.
Liam Hugh was sowhat surprised.
He could no longer rember when it was that William grew distant from him. Ever since he took over the Hale Group, even strangers called him “sir,” making him even harder to et.
“Uncle, what’s wrong?” William saw his distraction.
“Nothing, I just feel like you’re a bit different today.”
Exceptionally…
Warm?
Liam could only describe it that way.
“Uncle, you specially picked up from work, invited for dinner and drinks, and even prepared a room for . You certainly wouldn’t harm , would you?” He spoke in an indifferent tone, with a faint smile on his lips.
His gaze bearing down lightly, Liam felt his scalp tingle.
“Yes, I am your real uncle.”
He didn’t know when that milk-voiced little boy who used to follow him around calling “uncle” had grown into a powerful and influential man.
The Hale Family raised him well.
Everything was fine about him, except…
He wasn’t close to him!
As William spoke, he actually stood up, picked up the red wine, and poured for both of them, making Liam stand up almost instinctively, “William, this… ”
“You’re the elder here, please sit.”
“With so much happening during the Mid-Autumn Festival, I didn’t manage to see you. This glass of wine is to apologize.”
“I haven’t been a good nephew these years, this glass is to honor you.”
William said as he picked up the glass and downed it in one go.
“No, William…” Liam paused, “We don’t need to do this between us, drink slowly, we haven’t even had any food yet, drinking on an empty stomach is easy to get drunk.”
“It’s okay, if I get drunk, there’s a room for to rest directly in.”
William smiled, as if he had shed his usual stern exterior and let down his guard around him.
This moved Liam.
After chatting for a while longer, William glanced at the ti, “Uncle, I’ve made an appointnt, I need to make a call, I’ll step out and be right back.”
“Sure,” Liam smiled.
When he was left alone in the room, he took a small glass bottle from his pocket containing half a bottle of transparent liquid…
He looked at the wine glass in front of William’s seat, hesitating.
But opportunities were rare,
If he missed this one, there might never be another chance.
As he poured the liquid into the glass, he sent a ssage out.
William’s call took quite a while. By the ti he returned, the dishes were all cold.
“You really are busy, not even having ti for a proper al,” Liam said with a smile, pouring him more wine, “Co on, have a bit more, sleep right after you finish, forget about everything else.”
“Get a good night’s sleep, the company won’t collapse.”
William nodded, fingers gently caressing the stem of the wine glass, yet he didn’t take another sip.
Which made Liam a bit anxious.
“Uncle, have you been staying at ho lately?” William suddenly changed the subject, looking at him earnestly.
Liam held his glass, sipped so red wine, his gaze shifting away to avoid William’s eyes, “Why bring this up out of the blue?”
“Last ti I saw you and aunt, it seed like things weren’t going well.”
Liam sighed, “Your aunt has been so cold to these years, no drinking, no smoking, she even goes against when I rush your cousin to marry.”
“William, it’s different for a man, being older isn’t a big deal, but it’s not the sa for your cousin. She’s 30 and not worried at all.”
“I introduced her to a decent man, and she t with him, but she turned him off after a few words. When he asked if she could take more care of the family in the future–isn’t that sothing a woman should do?”
“But then she asked him if he could quit his job to take care of the family full-ti? Needless to say, she drove him away.”
Liam was full of complaints when it ca to his wife and daughter.
“Even so, you shouldn’t stay away from ho.” William swirled the wine in his glass.
“I get headaches at ho. I rather stay sowhere else.”
Liam lifted his glass to take a sip when William said in a lazy and languid tone:
“Uncle, living outside, you wouldn’t have a little family of your own, would you?”
“Cough—” Liam’s breathing seized, the wine caught in his throat. He quickly turned his head, covering his mouth as he coughed violently, “Hale, William…”
He coughed so hard that he couldn’t complete a sentence.
“Uncle, be careful.”
Liam Hugh was choking severely, tears almost coughed out.
William Hale handed him a tissue and as he drew back his hand, he swapped the two glasses.
Once he had recovered, he pointed at William Hale, both anxious and annoyed, “What nonsense are you spouting? Who has been running their mouth to you? I’ll tear their mouth apart.”
“My relationship with your aunt hasn’t been good in recent years, but I wouldn’t stoop to that level.”
“If you dare spout nonsense again, believe it or not, I’ll hit you!”
William Hale just smiled, “Everyone outside is talking about it; I just casually asked. You don’t need to get so angry.”
“I don’t care what outsiders say, but you must not think like that.”
“I know.” William Hale smiled as he handed him the glass, “This is to you, as an apology.”
“That’s more like it!”
“I’ll drink first as a sign of respect.”
Liam Hugh watched him down the glass in one gulp and was then satisfied.
He took a few sips from his glass, “William, the rumors outside can’t be trusted. They have their mouths; I can’t control them, but you’re in charge of such a big company, you can’t just follow the crowd.”
William Hale nodded.
This evening, his nephew was unusually compliant; it seed he would listen to anything he said.
Liam Hugh also sat up straight, “And that girl by your side now, just a dancer. Apart from that face, she has nothing worthwhile. Okay for a plaything, but you surely don’t want to marry her?”
William Hale didn’t respond.
He simply looked down at his wristwatch, his gaze then falling on a cellphone to one side.
“With your current status, you need to find a well-bred lady from a family of equal status, soone cultured and sensible. If you settle for soone not of equal standing in vision and experience, a montary fancy won’t suffice.”
“Seeing how she behaved towards last ti, with no respect for her elders, if you marry her, the entire Hale Family will not know peace.”
At this mont, William Hale’s phone vibrated.
Zac Cruz’s ssage: [Boss, everything is going according to your plan.]
William Hale turned his head to look at Liam Hugh, “Uncle, if an elder wants the younger generation to respect them, first and foremost, they have to act like one.”
Liam Hugh had been flattered all night, and as the tone shifted, he hadn’t yet reacted.
But he heard him say:
“The well-bred lady you speak of, are you referring to Serena Conner?”
“Serena…” Liam Hugh smiled, “Isn’t she quite fine? Plus, she’s liked you since childhood.”
“Cultured and sensible?”
William Hale sneered, “Would she strip naked and crawl into another man’s bed?”
Liam Hugh was terrified, his fingers gripping the glass trembled fiercely, his expression changed drastically, and he slamd the table, “William Hale, Serena is a good girl, what on earth are you talking about!”
The next second,
“Bang—” The door was kicked open from the outside.
Liam Hugh didn’t even see who it was before he was yanked up from his seat, the person winding up their arm, fingers clenched into a fist.
Swinging their hand,
a punch landed, Liam staggered back two steps, before he could react, another punch ca.
William Hale had already stood up, standing to the side, silently.
Thump, thump, he was hit until the corner of his mouth split, blood mixing with saliva filled his mouth, he coughed violently, “Who the hell are you?!”
“What, don’t recognize now? Liam Hugh, I treated you as a close friend, what did you think of ?!”
Liam Hugh finally saw who it was.
Owen Conner.
Serena Conner’s father!
“Brother Conner, what are you doing!” Liam Hugh panicked.
“You still have the face to ask !” Owen Conner stepped forward quickly, grabbing his collar, “Then you tell , why was Serena naked, lying in a hotel room you booked!”
Liam Hugh’s mind exploded with a buzz.
He stared fiercely at William Hale.
This bastard…
was scheming against him!
He stood to one side, flipping a lighter in his hand, his fingers pressed hard upon the lighter, igniting a fla that burst upwards, shining into his eyes…
Its brightness was stunning, dangerous, and terrifying.
