So he wasn’t going to let her go unless she responded to his question.
AiLin sighed. She would have brushed it aside as she would to others who try and pry into her mind. But for so reason, she didn’t feel like brushing aside his concern. It just didn’t felt... right.
"I t a family mber back in the Jiang Corporation, it brought be a bad mory and I felt a bit out of touch," responded AiLin with a soft chuckle. She didn’t want to make it sound overwhelming and tried to undermine what had happened but she could see Li ZiChen’s face becoming more severe than before. "It’s nothing as big of a deal as you think in that handso head of yours. I haven’t slept well and I was in a rush of adrenaline. When the rush of adrenaline fades, I felt a little out of touch and my weak self ca up you see. But don’t worry this won’t affect your plan in any sort. I’m not usually this weak."
"I know," his voice was knowing and firm. "But that doesn’t an you should ignore this emotions you’re feeling right now. My plan wouldn’t also be affected so easily by you ssing up a little."
It sounded like an encouragent. Coming from the might Li ZiChen who she had read to never fail a single contract and always landed on the good side of luck, AiLin felt a bit reassured.
"Is that your confidence?"
"Whichever you believe," he answered her quick. "Does this often happen? You blanking out like this when sothing unexpected happens?"
"No, it never happened back in prison. I had a therapist back then and they never ntioned this either but they do tell that I sotis beco too overwheld with my emotions. Like anger, sadness, and depres-... those moody emotions I an. It can help achieve my goals or well do things like these that makes weak."
She felt the breeze brushing her hair but her eyes were locked at Li ZiChen’s skin that was softly touched by his black hair. He always combed his hair neatly since they first t but now it was a little ssy and she had to say it didn’t look too bad.
But more than his appearance, his words were what seed to move her heart.
He told her, "You’re not weak," as firm as setting a stone, Li ZiChen seed offended as if he was the one who had been called weak by her. He raised his left eyebrow while frowning the other. "It seems you like to talk badly about yourself."
"Oh please, I’m not so dramatic."
"See? You love to undermine your own emotions." Li ZiChen pointed out that made AiLin’s lips to tied on its own as she realized he was correct. "What do you plan to do tonight?"
"Well what else?" AiLin humd as she patted her shoulder, "I will just go back to my daily rented apartnt and sleep."
"What about food? Have you eaten?" Li ZiChen seed to be focused with her health whether it’s physical and ntally than their plan. This made her feel out of touch and she didn’t quite like it. Their relationship is transactional. She cannot have this relationship progress further than that. She cannot afford it.
"It’s not necessary is it?" AiLin pushed her knees to stand up again. eting eye to eye to Li ZiChen almost swayed her again. "I’ll go now then since you have seen and checked for yourself that I am in a great health."
Li ZiChen held her by her wrist as he stood up as well. His left foot stepped on the back of his right shoes. He then removed both his feet from his shoes and dragged Ailin by the waist.
Eyes wide, AiLin wailed around, "W- Where the hell are you touching!"
Li ZiChen squeezed his right eye that was almost hit by AiLin’s hand and successfully dropped her down so that her feet was inside his shoes.
"Eat with ," Li ZiChen then said, unfazed by her who was going to explode and demand for his reasoning to touch her body without her permission.
Ailin was going to rip this man’s ears and warn him for not touching her but his hand was quick to remove themselves from her waist as it was when holding her. He didn’t test her boundaries and push it, only wanting to force her into using his shoes.
"No," AiLin said defiantly.
"It’s ginger chicken and plum wine."
AiLin’s eyes stared at him for a long couple of seconds with her lips parted slightly.
"..."
"How do you know that’s my favorite," AiLin narrowed her eyes. "Canary doesn’t even know that."
"Oh was that your favorite?" Li ZiChen’s eyes rolled innocently to the side as he shrugged his shoulders and pulled open his car door. He then gently pushed her back, urging her to go inside the car, "Let’s go now. We have made enough traffic."
"W— Wha no!" AiLin stubbornly refused to be pushed inside the car. The more Li ZiChen urged her to go inside, the more her heart and body refused to do it. Even though she is always a logical person, when it cos to interacting with Li ZiChen she felt like a child who would stubbornly disagree with everything he does simply for the sake of it. "No! No! You can’t bribe with just ginger chicken. I’m going ho!"
"With my shoes?" Li ZiChen raised his left eyebrow higher, "I never knew you would rob out of my own shoes, AiLin," and he made a face as if he was a kicked puppy.
No! She was definitely not improve their relationship. It should be a work kind of relationship. She won’t get in no matter what!
Does the mighty Li ZiChen think with just a puppy face she would enter his car willingly? Once a no is a no. She is more stubborn than a mull.
Yet ten minutes after that, AiLin found herself inside Li ZiChen’s mansion.
She clenched her chopsticks tight on her fist, cursing underneath her breath, "Damn it. I was tempted by a plate of ginger chicken."
