Hilla stayed around Halle 24/7 to prevent her from another accident in the hospital.
Hilla was wary of Horton, who was on his round of regular sick calls.
"Dr. Hutt, you only got one patient to look after? Or the hospital only got one patient?"
"I’m on the day shift!"
Horton replied forcefully, "Halle loved my cooking. She eats more when I cook."
"You want to make Halle’s baby gain weight and then a difficult labor, don’t you?" Hilla muttered.
Halle gently pulled her clothes and whispered, "Don’t be ridiculous!"
"Thank you for your regular visit, Dr. Hutt. My ti is near, so you needn’t co too often."
Halle looked at Horton with disgust. The closer to the delivery date, the fearer she was to see Horton.
Perhaps Halle was paranoid, but she panicked once she pictured that Horton was the first person to see her baby.
Blood is thicker than water. One couldn’t cut off stronger family bonds of loyalty.
Halle didn’t believe the talk, but she had to be careful.
"It’s not a big deal. Feel free to tell if you want anything to eat."
"We got a maid, and now you’ve pushed her out of the kitchen. How can you do that?" Hilla said impatiently.
Hilla looked at their maid standing at a loss out there, feeling a bit of pity for her.
Hilla thought.
"She serves you, and I serve Halle only."
"What?"
Hilla lost for words as she saw the unashad Horton.
She thought,
"Don’t worry. I’ve been monitoring Halle’s health. I make sure her daily intake ets
the standard. Her baby won’t gain weight even if she eats a little bit more. I promise that Halle will have a smooth delivery."
Hilla couldn’t refute his argunt.
She wondered, "How can it be so tenable?"
Halle slightly lowered her head with her eyebrows furrowed and said in a low voice, "Dr. Hutt, you’ve helped us a lot, and you needn’t do everything on your own even if you’re Bruce’s relative. I can take care of my baby. Thank you for being so concerned."
Bruce as Halle’s brother-in-law, didn’t even cook for her once. And anwhile, Horton brought her nutritious food almost every day.
Halle couldn’t deny that Horton’s food kept her refreshing and improved her appetite, but she beca anxious day by day.
She was afraid that Horton would cross the line after the baby was born.
Hilla sighed and looked at Horton. "Didn’t you see that? You and my sister aren’t that close. We don’t want to bother you. So, you’d better stay in your office and away from us."
Hilla felt a bit sorry for Horton.
Horton always ca over to cook and clean, but Hilla didn’t even give him a chance.
It would be awkward if they t in the future’s family union.
It was better to cut off the relationship as soon as possible.
Horton fixed his eyes on Halle for a while, and then he asked, "Is that really what you want?"
Halle was stunned, and her mind went completely blank at this ti.
She was getting more worried when her delivery ca near.
Perhaps she overthought it, but she couldn’t place a big threat ’like Horton by her side.
"Yes, Dr. Hutt. It would be best if you focused on your work. Don’t waste ti on , please."
There was a heavy atmosphere in the room. Hilla could feel Horton’s coldness. It was the first ti that she saw Horton was scary in silence.
Although his coldness couldn’t make people chill to the bone, at least it could make people shiver.
Hilla was worried that Horton would hate Halle from deep love and retaliate her... "I’m sorry for disturbing you that long. I have to go."
Hilla beca alert, but Horton just took off his apron, threw it on Hilla’s head, and walked away.
He gently closed the door, but that sent a shiver down Hilla’s spine.
Dr. Hutt seed to be a gentleman but probably not an easy man to please.
"Halle, he left."
Hilla wanted to ask Halle if she would regret it because Horton was a nice and decent gentleman. Although he wasn’t a match for Bruce, he was a good choice.
Horton would be a nice man to marry because he was born in a reputed family and actually looked good.
Unluckily, Halle didn’t get impressed at all. She briefly said sothing and picked up the parenting book to read.
She had been reading the sa page for the whole day.
Hilla didn’t make a sound, and finally, Bruce returned from work.
Hilla and Bruce sneaked up the stairs. Hilla said worriedly, "Halle is strange today. She kicked Horton out of the house, and I know she cares about it. She has been out of mind all day. Do you think Halle loves Horton?"
"Well, of course!"
Bruce replied casually and sat on the bed with Hilla in his arms.
He had just returned from work when Hilla dragged him upstairs. It seed that Hilla wanted him so much that he didn’t have ti to take a bath.
"I don’t think so. My sister won’t fall in love with Horton. You will agree with if you see how Halle looks at Horton. It’s impossible!"
"Well, then I agree with you."
Bruce got nothing to do with all that stuff, so he didn’t care about it.
Bruce was busy taking off Hilla’s clothes. When Hilla realized it, she was stunned. "What are you doing?"
"It’s hot today. I’m afraid you will get sick, and I’m helping you."
"Well, is that how you help?" Hilla thought.
"Bruce, did you hear ? A man who doesn’t respect a woman is bad."
"I’m listening. You can talk while we’re having sex. I don’t mind."
What a master of ti managent!
"Old goats were disgusted!" Hilla thought.
...
"Dr. Hutt, you got it wrong again. Who is Halle? You’ve signed more than ten case reports wrong because of her. The hospital will get a lawsuit if you keep doing it."
Samuel placed a stack of wrongly-signed papers in front of Horton and sighed helplessly.
It was not that bigger deal if the case reports were signed wrong. What if Horton was distracted during an operation?
The worst thing for a doctor was to fall in love, especially when he was in a bitter love. He’d better cut it off as soon as possible.
Horton pulled himself together, signed the papers again, and handed them over. He checked Halle’s history records and next appointnt on the computer.
He frowned. "What should he do next?"
"Dr. Hutt, what’s wrong with you these two days? Did you go through a breakup?"
Samuel puzzled.
"Professor Bo, tell . I can give you ideas. My dical skills are definitely not as good as yours, but I won’t lose to you when I’m in love. After all, I’ve already dated 17 senior girls."
"It turned out to be you’re a scumbag, right?"
Horton frowned. He didn’t expect that he would keep such a jerk by his side.
"How can you call a scumbag? It’s a part of my life. After being with many won, you’ll know which suits you the most. You’ll know which type of woman you want to spend the rest of your life with her." Samuel explained.
Horton looked at him in despise, smiled, and slowly said, "Scumbag!"
"She’s special, gentle, but hard to approach."
"Do you think she’s like the wind? Sotis it seems very close, sotis far away, especially when you approach."
"Pretty much the sa." Horton nodded.
To so extent, Horton had never approached Halle like last ti. She always pushed him away before he could get close.
"Well, this kind of woman, mysterious and unpredictable. You’d better stay by her side, help her clean or cook, and show up when she needs you. It’s a matter of ti. When the ti cos, she will love you in a twinkling."
This type of woman was difficult to ta, so they weren’t easily pleased by romantic tricks. They needed security.
"I did it, and she kicked out!"
Horton looked a bit aggrieved, and Samuel felt thought him miserable.
It was hard to find a wife in a society where n were more than won.
"Maybe she will need soone to help her move, drive her ho, or anything. You can try these."
Horton nodded. "I’m checking the appointnt for her next prenatal checkup!"
He was planning a little run-in with Halle in this small hospital.
"A prenatal checkup?"
Samuel was extrely shocked, and he asked suspiciously, "Is that your baby?"
He was like treading on eggshells.
"No!" Horton said with a sigh of regret.
He regretted that he didn’t knock her up after they had their first sex last ti.
Samuel thought,
Samuel was confused about today’s society and started to doubt that he might need another 17 girls to build his new social value.
Samuel wondered, "Is he really a famous neurologist? Doesn’t he need to give himself a checkup?"
"Dr. Hutt, you can find a young, pretty, and well-born lady!"
Samuel thought he had to bring Horton back to the right track.
"She is young, pretty, and well-born." Horton looked up and said seriously.
Although the Holt family was declining lately, Horton didn’t approach Halle for her money, and he was rich.
Samuel’s mouth quirked up and Horton’s reply made his toes curl. "What kind of lady will get pregnant before getting married?"
Even if she was born in a reputed family, she wasn’t really a lady.
"She divorced from her husband!"
Horton was straightforward, and Samuel wondered,
"You can’t help, can you? I knew it! Off you go! I’m busy."
Horton waved him out in disgust, and Samuel left the office silently.
"Are you busy? You didn’t do anything right this morning and seed better at ssing around with stupid things beyond work," Samuel thought.
"Halle, what’s wrong with you recently? Why do you keep staring at the window? Do you miss Horton?"
Hilla brought so cherries over and asked with a sly smile on her face.
Halle glared at her. "You can’t pull the crap like this! Dr. Hutt has been nice to us. I appreciate that. I’m thinking about if I should go back ho after giving birth."
She beca more anxious when the ti ca near.
"Why? Didn’t we agree that you will go to the confinent center after that? The environnt in the countryside is not that friendly to you, and especially it is sumr now. How can your baby survive that?"
"Don’t be so agitated! I was just thinking about it."
Halle pulled her sister back. Margaret ca in when Hilla wanted to say sothing.
She had been missing for many days.
Her hair was undone, and there was a swollen bump on her forehead. The most terrible thing was that one of her arms was broken. The white hanging gauze on her neck made her look pitiful.
Hilla was stunned. "What kind of wicked thing did she do?"
Margaret rushed towards her before she could say anything.
"Hilla, I was badly hurt!"
"Yes, you are. I saw that," Hilla thought.
"He’s the first jerk I t in my lifeti! He beat a woman..."
"Damn! You can’t be with a man who beat a woman!" Hilla had it in mind.
