Early morning on Hongliu Road.
Tu Hengsha was filling out an address at a courier agency. After finishing, she handed a package to the other party, "Thank you, how much is it?"
"Local delivery, eh? Starts at 8 yuan." The person took the package. "But this seems a bit heavy. Let weigh it."
Heavy? How could it not be heavy? It’s filled with 20 years of ti...
After weighing it and paying, she held her machine in her arms and headed to work in the morning light.
She arrived later than usual, almost right on the dot, at the newspaper office.
As she was going upstairs, soone in the editorial departnt was talking to Hao Ren, "Hao Ren, is the house all furnished?"
"Yes!" Hao Ren smiled.
Soone, unaware of this information, was slightly surprised, "Hao Ren bought a house? Planning to get married, right?"
Everyone laughed.
At this mont, Tu Hengsha ca in, her gaze fixed on her seat, not deviating an inch, perhaps because she was ultimately a timid person at heart...
Hao Ren smiled at her.
She walked over and handed him a list of kitchen utensils, "Buy these for your kitchen, they should be about right."
Hao Ren took a glance, seeing a dense list, and imdiately felt a headache. "Still, why don’t we go together when you have ti? So of these things I’ve never even heard of, and they have different models. If I buy the wrong ones, my parents will bla again."
Tu Hengsha smiled, "Alright!"
The two sat down, their minds undistracted, while the editorial platform remained quiet. Many people were looking at them with a gaze that asked one question: Are they getting married?
Afterward, these onlookers’ gazes collectively turned to another corner where Ronggui was sitting.
Ronggui’s hands paused on the keyboard, then he continued typing, but he struck the keys so hard that his fingertips ached. Lines of nonsensical characters appeared on his screen, which he then deleted line by line...
"Ronggui, are you ready? Shall we go now?" Chen Qi called to him, carrying equipnt.
He stood up in silence, took his notebook, and left.
After Tu Hengsha quit, the criminal psychology research was now being done by Chen Qi and him. Not long after they left, Tu Hengsha and Hao Ren also took their equipnt and went out.
Another entire day passed. In the afternoon, when Tu Hengsha and Hao Ren returned to the newspaper office, the atmosphere lacked a certain soone’s presence, which she inexplicably sensed and lightly let out a sigh of relief.
Hao Ren couldn’t leave yet, as he had to work overti to finish a draft. After compiling the photos and editing the videos to upload, she planned to leave first. She said goodbye to Hao Ren, slung her bag over her shoulder, and left.
She walked quickly, but despite that, in the lobby on the first floor of the newspaper office, she encountered soone—Ronggui and Chen Qi were walking in from outside.
His steps slowed, and then he stopped altogether, standing at the doorway. The setting sun shone in from outside, casting a long shadow of him on the ground.
Chen Qi looked at both of them, carrying the equipnt, "I’ll head up first."
He didn’t move, but she had to go through that door.
Thus, neither of them moved.
After a stalemate, she couldn’t hold back and planned to push past him and rush out, just like last night.
However, she failed.
As she tried to rush past, he grabbed her arm, his voice sinister as it ca from above her, "What’s the hurry?"
"..."
"Going shopping with Hao Ren for kitchen supplies?"
"..."
He suddenly laughed, "I really underestimated your abilities!"
"..." What did he an?
He released his hand, "A spare who can get married anyti? I’m impressed! Though I’m curious, do you have any of Hao Ren’s things in your possession too?"
She felt so anger rising, wanting to retort, but he walked away.
Looking back, he stopped after a few steps, his voice sounding cool, "Grandma said I have a package today."
"..." Did he receive it?
"Thank you for rembering my phone number even after blocking !"
"..." She was silent. Indeed, she was that spineless; she always rembered his number. Even though she blocked it on her phone, she feared it couldn’t be erased from her heart in a short ti.
"What does it an to return all my things? Does it an a complete break?" he asked.
She exhaled, starting to say her first word, "Yes!"
She couldn’t see his expression, didn’t know if he was laughing or not at the mont, but his voice in her ears was laced with a cold laugh, "A complete break then!"
"..." She clenched her hand.
"However, you forgot one thing! Once I get it back, we can break it off!"
After speaking, he quickly entered the elevator.
She watched his figure disappear as the elevator doors gradually closed. He seed to have been staring at her the entire ti, with eyes filled with sothing fierce—was it hate, resentnt, or perhaps sothing else...
She pondered all the way, wondering what she had forgotten, and suddenly rembered there was a calligraphy piece from his childhood. She had taken it out and never put it back.
Once she realized it, she figured she could just mail it to him another day.
He didn’t need to co back personally to retrieve it!
She decided against mailing it again. The next day, with the calligraphy piece in her bag, she went to the newspaper office, planning to find an opportunity to return it directly to him or slip it onto his desk.
Hao Ren had a review to write that day and was rushing to et the deadline for the next day’s front page, so he had no tasks outside. She didn’t either, but from morning, she hadn’t seen Ronggui and Chen Qi appear.
Until noon, when everyone went to the cafeteria for lunch, she lingered by herself. Hao Ren urged her, "Co on, let’s go."
She pretended to continue editing the video, "You go ahead! I’ll need a while longer!"
"Should I wait for you?" Hao Ren asked her.
"No need! You go ahead, otherwise by the ti I finish here, all the good dishes will be gone!"
"Alright! I’ll save you so!" Hao Ren often had als with her and was sowhat aware of her preferences.
When everyone else had left, Tu Hengsha finally stood up, took the calligraphy piece from her bag, and quickly approached his desk.
His desk was clean and tidy, unlike hers, which was piled high with clutter.
She opened the folder on his desk and swiftly tucked the piece inside. Just as she closed it, she heard a chilly voice from behind her, "What are you doing? Do I still have sothing of yours here?"
Her hand trembled, almost causing her feet to give way. She turned around quickly to find him standing gloomily in front of her.
"No... no..." She didn’t know why she beca so timid under his piercing gaze, instinctively murmuring, "I was just returning the piece to you. This is the last item I forgot..."
After speaking, she wanted to flee when she heard him snicker coldly again, "So everything has been returned now?"
"Everything is returned!" She took a deep breath.
"Fine, then from now on, it’s a complete break!" His voice had never sounded so harsh, with no trace of warmth. Even when they first t in Nan County, his voice hadn’t been this cold. Though back then, he despised her, treated her indifferently, it wasn’t as icy as this. It was colder than when she had clutched his shirt as he erged step by step from the flood that day.
"Alright..." Even though she had wanted this outco, facing it now made her heart feel as if it were being pricked by needles.
