Tu Hengsha never thought of nding the relationship with Su Rongxing. Even though Su Rongxing was Xiao Xu’s younger sister, she was unaware of how much weight this sister carried in his heart. When Su Rongxing insulted them and stord off, what was on his mind? Would he soften for Su Rongxing?
In the afternoon, Tu Hengsha still asked Su Ronggui about this matter, though sowhat tactfully.
She wanted to hear how he would respond.
Unexpectedly, Mr. Su turned hostile, "How much do you not want people to know?"
"..." Know what? Her mind was utterly confused, wasn’t it?
His expression of barely contained exasperation, he pinched her ear, "Could you be a bit brighter?" Finally, helplessly, "I’ll have to look it up on Baidu when I get back."
"Look up what?" She frowned and leaned closer to ask.
He flicked her forehead, "What to do if your girlfriend is too dumb!"
She squinted her eyes in a smile, forgiving him for calling her dumb just because it was the first ti he said "girlfriend!" Girlfriend... She repeatedly savored those three words, feeling so delighted that it was as if the whole world were cheering, and she felt like she was walking on clouds.
His stern face lted because of her transparent smile, unable to restrain a grin, "Do you know who the girlfriend is now?"
"I know, I know!" She nodded enthusiastically, animatedly, "With soone as distinguished and talented as my Mr. Su, both in looks and skills, who could match you? A girlfriend must surely be a woman of unparalleled beauty and elegance!"
He rarely laughed out loud, "I allow you to use ten more idioms!"
"No, no! In front of the talented Mr. Su, I must be cautious, lest I have nothing to say in front of you next ti!" She felt her flattery skills were improving.
He pinched her cheek and laughed heartily, "I’ll have to check what to do if the girlfriend is such a fool when I get back!"
How nice it was to see Xiao Xu laughing like that! She squinted and laughed, thinking silently that a fool she was then!
"Don’t consider Rongxing," he said softly, "We’re open and aboveboard, nothing to hide, sooner or later, everyone will face this day."
Who were the "everyone" included in that pronoun...
"Don’t let your mind wander with these things, tomorrow you need to continue with today’s case, think about how to work with properly in the future!"
She instantly seized the crux of his words, "Follow you in the future?"
"Yes! Always follow in the future!" he responded resolutely, adding, "Don’t run around with Hao Ren aimlessly."
"Mr. Su, you’re not being precise with your words! What do you an by running around aimlessly? We are seriously working, aren’t we?" She had to protest!
"We?"
"Yes! Hao Ren and I! Every ti we go out, we accomplish our tasks excellently! You can’t disparage us! Don’t misuse words!" She felt no sense of danger.
Su Ronggui’s face fell as he strode forward, leaving Tu Hengsha to chase after him with a frown, once again tangled in the question of "why is the boyfriend upset."
Tu Hengsha found out the next day that the case Su Ronggui ntioned was indeed a case, and it was a murder case! No wonder Chen Qi didn’t want to follow along; it was terrifying!
The deceased was a thirty-five-year-old male, killed by a throat cut, with twenty-eight minor wounds on his body, all inflicted by sharp weapons through slashing or stabbing. The ti of death was six days prior, and after killing him, the murderer threw the body into the river. It was discovered yesterday by a sanitation worker, already bloated from soaking.
The interview was with Ning Shiqian, the captain of the local criminal investigation team, who described the post-mortem situation to them and allowed them to view the body.
Tu Hengsha, coming out from the forensic pathologist, couldn’t hold back and covered her mouth as she ran into the bathroom to vomit.
Two n waited for her outside.
Ning Shiqian sighed, "You’re really putting the young lady in a difficult position, why? We are more focused on who and how, which are technical issues, while you are focused on why, which involves social and human nature issues, so at this stage, it’s still our business, you can co later."
"Any clues?" Su Ronggui asked.
"Nothing to disclose for now."
"Can we et the family?" Su Ronggui asked.
"The victim’s identity has been confird, he has a daughter, seven years old, his wife has been contacted and went out of town, she will return today, you can et then."
When Tu Hengsha erged from the bathroom, her face was still pale, "Sorry, I..."
Ning Shiqian waved his hand, "It’s okay, a normal reaction; even our male officers just starting out in the field would throw up at such scenes, let alone a young lady like you."
Tu Hengsha’s voice was trembling, "The murderer was extrely brutal, how much hatred must there have been to stab soone like that?"
Su Ronggui wiped the moisture off her cheek with his fingers, speaking softly, "Don’t be rash, have you decided for Captain Ning that it was a vendetta?"
"Makes sense, it’s also a line of thought," Ning Shiqian said, "I’m busy, I won’t be accompanying you, I’ll call you when the family arrives."
He patted Su Ronggui’s shoulder, "Let’s get together soti, everyone seems to have been so busy for ages, and I feel like it’s been a good ten years since I saw you."
"Alright." Su Ronggui agreed, shaking hands with Ning Shiqian to say goodbye.
"You know Captain Ning?" After leaving the forensic identification center, Tu Hengsha said.
"Yeah, we knew each other from childhood." Later, after entering the Su family, there was less contact.
Tu Hengsha fell silent, not at all like the silly girl who always bounced around, endlessly making noise at his side.
"What’s wrong? Still not feeling well?" He handed her a candy.
She glanced at it, "Where did you get the candy?"
He didn’t answer, simply peeled the wrapper and shoved the candy into her mouth.
Orange-flavored, sweet and sour, it stimulated her taste buds, indeed suppressing those uncomfortable feelings, yet, though the discomfort in her stomach was gone, what about her heart?
With the candy in her mouth, walking amidst the bustling crowd with him, she suddenly said, "Xiao Xu, why do you think my dad killed soone back then? What kind of deep-seated grudge did he have?"
His eyes faltered, his body stiffening.
Yet she continued, "Back then, I was so young, understood nothing, rembered nothing, and Mom wouldn’t tell . All I knew was that my dad wasn’t a bad guy; why would he kill soone?"
He slowly gathered himself but remained silent.
She smiled, a bit of bitterness within, "I’m really silly, asking you why? What could you know? As a kid, I naïvely thought there were only good people and bad guys in the world. Watching a movie or TV show, I would repeatedly ask adults who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. Later, my mom said, the world isn’t just about good and bad people, just like how there aren’t only black and white in this world. Human nature is complex, it’s not simply black or white."
