At first, the pressure was very light, very gentle, and then suddenly he pressed down heavily.
Ethan raised his head to look at her expression and noticed that Seraphina furrowed her brows slightly, but soon they relaxed again, as if the pain just now wasn’t hers.
"The doctor ntioned not to suppress your emotions, why do you never listen?" Ethan’s voice held a hint of irritation.
"I’m not holding it in." Seraphina kept her eyes closed but finally was willing to say a few more words, "I told you, I’m very sad."
Truly so very sad.
She was grieving Zachary’s death, grieving over how difficult it was to rebuild Veridian Isle, grieving how weak her own abilities seed.
From Veridian Isle to the Z Country, she had already seen countless people die before her eyes.
Yet she felt powerless, helpless.
Granny Coleman died right in front of her, Zachary died just dozens of ters away, and she couldn’t do anything.
Even if Veridian Isle was truly rebuilt, they couldn’t co back to life.
They had already left this world.
The sorrow was overwhelming; Seraphina felt her stomach churn, and her throat was filled with a familiar tallic taste.
"If you’re sad, just cry!"
Ethan stared at her pale face, bewildered by how she could endure so much.
Did she think just telling him she was sad ant she wasn’t repressing it?
After speaking, Ethan set her leg down, got up, and went to the bathroom to wash the ointnt off his hands.
Seraphina slowly opened her eyes, picked up the warm water by the bedside, and washed away the tallic taste in her mouth.
The water she spat out turned a faint pink.
She leaned back again as Ethan returned with clean hands, sitting next to her, and picked up the ginger tea by the bed, gently stirring with a spoon, "Have so."
He scooped a spoonful, tested it to make sure it wasn’t too hot, and then brought it to Seraphina’s lips.
The ginger tea was still steaming, and Seraphina found even swallowing difficult; she had no desire to drink it.
She shook her head, "I really don’t want to have it."
If she forced it down, she’d definitely throw it up later, and Ethan would call the doctor, but she only wanted so peace and quiet.
"It’s just ginger tea, is it because it’s too spicy? I can add so sugar for you."
Ethan’s tone unconsciously softened, coaxing her.
"..."
Seraphina refused him with silence.
"As long as you drink this tea and take the dicine, I’ll buy you a car and a house, alright? How about a stretch Lincoln?"
Seeing her continue to be silent, Ethan added, "How about costics? Clothes and bags? Anything you want, I’ll get it for you."
"..."
"Here’s a thought, I’ll have another house built next door, turn it into a candy building, filled with the world’s best sweets," Ethan proposed.
No need.
"I really don’t want to drink it." Seraphina felt a bit tired, closing her eyes.
Ethan was surprised that despite going this far, she could still refuse him, his voice tightening, "No matter what you say today, you have to drink this ginger tea! Otherwise, I’ll feed it to you directly."
Usually, by this point, Seraphina would obey him, but this ti, she didn’t even lift her eyelids.
Ethan felt a bit hurt in his pride, raising his voice, "Fine then, I’ll feed you."
Seraphina remained motionless.
"Damn." Ethan threw the spoon into the ginger tea with a splash, spilling so onto the floor.
He thought for a mont and said, "Then I’ll retrieve that man’s body and give him a proper burial, is that okay?"
This ti, Seraphina finally opened her eyes, the trembling of her lashes betraying so of her feelings.
Looking at the man’s awkward gaze, Seraphina felt as if sothing within her was being unlocked.
Seeing Seraphina finally open her eyes, Ethan’s expression softened slightly, "Knew this would make you agree, now drink the tea, quickly."
So difficult to please.
With that, Ethan reached out to pinch Seraphina’s cheek, but the intended pinch turned into a caress, his thumb gently brushing her cheek.
Ethan sat by the bed, one hand holding the bowl, the other gently caressing her face, his body slightly leaning forward.
Seraphina looked at the man before her, slowly sitting up straight, her eyes carrying a certain emotion, "Ethan, we..."
"What?"
First a twisted ankle, then spitting blood, her body had co to this?
"Didn’t you tell before that I could forget those things?" Seraphina felt a bitterness in her heart, "Now, every ti I close my eyes, I recall those who died around . I’m in too much pain, I don’t want to continue like this."
She wanted to forget.
Even if only for a while.
"..."
Ethan frowned and didn’t agree with her.
Seraphina cautiously took care of her leg, then kneeled and slowly approached Ethan, her cold fingers touched his face, his neck, and then lip to lip.
Ethan’s body stiffened slightly, gripping the ginger tea tightly, this woman was truly like a seductress, "Seraphina Redgrave, you’d better not play with fire."
He couldn’t withstand it.
Before he could finish, Seraphina kissed him again.
This ti, the string in Ethan’s head snapped, and he threw the botherso ginger tea aside, actively kissing Seraphina in return.
He tasted the faint tallic taste in her mouth, feeling a pang of heartache.
Seraphina wrapped her arms around his neck, responding clumsily yet eagerly.
Seraphina was almost never proactive, and this ti it surprised Ethan, dispelling his hesitation.
Seraphina’s strength was already exhausted, her whole body weak beyond compare, and she’d only managed to speak with Ethan because she didn’t want to drink the ginger tea.
As she was suddenly pushed onto the bed, her head sank into the soft pillow, bouncing back slightly, her hair fluttering up.
When Ethan kissed her once more, Seraphina felt her mind go black, drowsiness crashing over her like a tide.
Her body finally reached its limit, and she fell asleep right in Ethan’s embrace.
"..."
Ethan had been ready, and yet she fell asleep just like that.
Looking at the woman in his arms, breathing evenly and slowly.
Damn.
What did this count as?
...
Seraphina’s physical condition was actually quite good; since childhood, the Redgrave family had fed her all sorts of peculiar dicines, giving her a substantial toxin resistance. Later on Veridian Isle, with its harsh climate and poor food and sleep conditions, without a strong body, she would’ve perished long ago.
Moreover, after coming to Hibiscus Garden, Nanny Lynch took care of her diet and daily life ticulously, nurturing her well, and she’d never even caught a cold during the seasonal changes.
But this ti, the illness struck like a mountain’s collapse, and Seraphina fell severely ill, unable to get up.
