"Zhuo Ting, I’m still here."

Wen Nian spoke out softly, and Zhuo Ting suddenly fell silent. He walked out of the ward on his own, his face showing a look of deep concern for the person who was being resuscitated inside.

"Lili, don’t take it to heart. The Vice President was just too anxious."

Song Jiayu said to Song Lili.

Song Lili shook her head and didn’t say anything more.

Initially, she had planned to leave with Wen Nian, but it now seed inappropriate to do so.

"Why don’t you go back first?"

Song Lili said to Wen Nian.

Wen Nian glanced at the ti and, taking Song Lili by the hand, sat down again,

"Let’s wait a little longer."

"..."

Song Lili looked at him, "You don’t have to worry about . Dad is here. It’s okay."

"The eting in the afternoon doesn’t start until three-thirty. We still have ti."

Wen Nian insisted, and Song Lili didn’t push further. Having Wen Nian by her side was always a good thing.

Song Jiayu sat across from them.

Seeing Song Jiayu’s face full of worry, Song Lili couldn’t find any comforting words to say.

To her father, no matter what Song Xiangqiao had done, she was still the daughter he had raised. Just on that point, and with her father’s kind and honest nature, he couldn’t possibly be well.

At the very least, he probably wished for Song Xiangqiao to have a peaceful end.

Nurses were bustling in and out with equipnt, and the curtains covered the glass windows of the ward. Song Xiangqiao’s condition was grim.

Zhuo Ting, as if in a daze, clenched his fists tightly.

Though he was over fifty years old, he appeared quite young—if judged solely by appearance, he could pass for around forty. Zhuo Ting had always been a rather vigorous and charismatic older man.

But now... in just two days, this normally charismatic older man showed all the signs of age on his face.

It was truly a sight that elicited sighs.

About forty-five minutes passed.

Finally, the rustling sounds in the ward slowly stopped, and the ECG returned to a normal trace.

The doctors and nurses ca out sweating profusely.

The patient was the Vice President’s wife; no one dared to neglect her. If they couldn’t bring her back, even the most respected professor-level doctors would feel like there was a knife hanging over their necks, trembling with fear.

"Mr. President, Vice President, Madam Zhuo’s condition has now stabilized, but... at any mont, she could just..."

The doctor pursed his lips and stole a glance at Zhuo Ting, speaking hesitantly,

"Even so, I hope the Vice President can see it with acceptance."

Was this ant to be a preemptive warning?

Song Lili thought to herself.

After the doctor and nurses had left, Song Lili and Wen Nian didn’t stay much longer. Song Lili wrapped up Song Xiangqiao’s notebook and returned it to Zhuo Ting,

"I’ve read part of the contents. I know the Vice President’s intention in showing this notebook."

Zhuo Ting gave Song Lili a look and slowly took the notebook.

"I also realized only today that the Vice President is not entirely heartless. However... the fate that Song Xiangqiao now faces can truly only be described with the words ’she had it coming.’"

"..."

Zhuo Ting’s eyebrows knitted together; he seed not to understand why, after reading the contents of the notebook, Song Lili could say such a thing.

Didn’t she feel a bit moved at all?

"Compared to what Song Xiangqiao is suffering now, what I experienced in the past was even more agonizing."

"..."

"Dad, make sure you rest. If anything cos up, just ask the caregiver to do it."

Song Lili said to Song Jiayu.

Song Jiayu nodded and watched Song Lili and Wen Nian leave.

Zhuo Ting turned to Song Jiayu, "Your daughter has quite the hard heart."

Song Jiayu walked to the glass window of the ward and looked at Song Xiangqiao lying on the hospital bed, her body hooked up to nurous machines, completely pale, and murmured,

"I owe Lili too much... To tell the truth, I don’t think Lili’s heart is hard. On the contrary, it is too soft."

"..."

"Because her heart is too soft, she always retreats proactively before problems arise. One retreat after another, which in the end makes her seem too easy to bully..."

"..."

"She’s soone who has been taken advantage of. If she were not to learn from her past experiences, that would be stupidity."

Song Jiayu looked grave,

"Xiao Qiao has such a strong personality, her going to extres is partly my fault too, as we don’t have any blood relation so our interactions have always been cautious. Not wanting her to feel alienated, I spoiled her excessively, which eventually led to lack of discipline and her going astray."

"When Xiao Qiao said she wanted to marry you, I didn’t think you would agree."

Zhuo Ting stood beside Song Jiayu with his hands behind his back, facing the glass.

"I never agreed."
