"Let your hair grow out," he suggested.
Wen Nian had dried her hair until it was only half-wet, and with the breeze blowing through the window, it was hardly damp anymore.
"Long hair isn’t convenient for work," Tang Xiaohua said, casually running her hand through her hair. "Short hair is pretty handy."
In the military, although there was no explicit rule against female soldiers having long hair, most cut theirs short upon joining.
This was mainly due to the need to wear military caps at all tis and helts during missions.
Wen Nian didn’t insist, but he humd softly, "But I do miss the way your long hair used to flutter..."
He draped the towel casually over the windowsill, blocking her waist with one hand while the other lay across her shoulder, binding her to his body like two thick ropes.
She tilted her head to the side, revealing a stretch of neck that just so happened to give Wen Nian a perfect spot. His lips, slightly cool, touched her skin, tenderly caressing her.
Everything in the mountains was tranquil, the sound of gurgling stream creating a lody as natural as celestial music.
Wen Nian held her and gently swayed their bodies together, as if moving to the little tune of the nocturnal cicadas.
Tang Xiaohua gazed out at the serene night scene, a picture of peace as if in a haven detached from the world.
"Do you still lack a woman with flowing long hair by your side?"
She teased, truly just joking, with no double aning intended, but Wen Nian did not take it well. It was as though her remark had shattered the picturesque, moonlit setting.
He let go of her and stood up, heading outside.
Tang Xiaohua was montarily stunned, watching his tall figure silently loop around and leave.
"Really?" she muttered. Was he really unable to take a joke?
While she hesitated, contemplating whether to go out and make ands... he ca back in, carrying a small jug of wine and two cups.
Tang Xiaohua raised an eyebrow,
"Are you going to drink?"
"Peach blossom wine, I brewed it myself."
Wen Nian spoke matter-of-factly, sitting down beside her once again, "It’s not often I co here, so have a taste."
"It seems you have quite a relaxed ti being the President," she remarked.
Tang Xiaohua took a small cup of peach blossom wine, clinked it with Wen Nian’s, and took a sip. She nodded in approval, "It tastes really good."
A look of pride appeared on Wen Nian’s refined and handso face.
They placed two small cups side by side on the windowsill. Wen Nian filled the empty cups again, pulled Tang Xiaohua back into his embrace, and brought the cup to her lips, "Have another drink."
"Are you trying to get drunk?" she asked offhandedly while finishing the wine he had brought to her lips.
"Is it too obvious what I’m doing?" Wen Nian inquired.
Tang Xiaohua felt a mixture of amusent and embarrassnt. Outside, the willow leaves swayed on their branches, and the courtyard was full of red cape jasmine, which was so captivating it was hard to look away from, much like Wen Nian...
"There’s no need to get drunk."
She spoke softly, holding his hand that was wrapped around her waist and laying across her collarbone.
Wen Nian’s body stiffened slightly, and he hesitated...
"I didn’t say I was unwilling."
Tang Xiaohua leaned against him, still swaying, uttering what seed to be an incomplete sentence.
The strength in Wen Nian’s arms surged, and he held her tighter, his thin lips capturing her ear, "You know what I want..."
"I know, that thing has been pressing against my lower back, I’ve been enduring it for a long ti," Tang Xiaohua said, completely unfiltered.
Wen Nian felt... a bit off in his heart.
"Don’t you know that drinking before doing it is bad for your health?"
She asked again.
Wen Nian narrowed his eyes, "You..."
His words reached his lips but then he swallowed them back; his mind was sowhat in disarray.
Tang Xiaohua sensed a clear change in the person behind her, and couldn’t help but turn around, eting Wen Nian’s oddly contorted expression, "What’s wrong?"
Wen Nian took a deep breath, hugged her even tighter, and buried his face in her neck...
"What exactly is wrong?"
Wen Nian directly picked up the jug and guzzled a mouthful, then dragged Tang Xiaohua closer and poured it into her mouth,
"Umm..."
Tang Xiaohua almost choked on the wine; he took the opportunity to push her down onto the soft couch, his lips following closely behind the taste of peach blossom wine.
"Hey..."
Tang Xiaohua struggled for a mont, and Wen Nian quickly paused, "You said you were willing."
"Right, I am willing. Otherwise, would I have co here to spend the night with you?"
"..."
Wen Nian looked at her; every word she said was right, but he just felt... When she spoke about matters between n and won, wasn’t her expression far too blunt?
She didn’t sound like an innocent girl at all, but instead... like a woman married for several years, very... experienced.
For a mont, he had many uncomfortable suspicions.
They had been apart for so long, during the three years before she resolved her issues and opened her heart to him, he hadn’t dared to assu she’d regard herself as a married woman.
But concerning matters of n and won, he really hadn’t worried—she wasn’t a promiscuous woman, and her relation with Lu Ziqing, although intimate, had never crossed the line.
But seeing her attitude, listening to her words, Wen Nian really was...
Tang Xiaohua didn’t realize it at first, but as Wen Nian’s hesitation grew and the flas of jealousy in his eyes started to burn fiercer, she suddenly laughed.
"What are you laughing at?"
Tang Xiaohua’s expression sobered, and with narrowed eyes, she challenged, "Before , did you have other won?"
"No."
"I don’t believe you; you’re thirty this year."
"I have no need to lie to you; I’ve always been very clear that I am a married man. Therefore, I have been extrely faithful to my duties as a husband."
What he ant was, what about you?
He hadn’t even asked yet when Tang Xiaohua pointed at him and started to mock,
"Oh... so you’re still a virgin. Male..."
"..."
Wen Nian’s back stiffened, looking at the woman beneath him who was laughing carelessly, her cheeks flushed and radiant; he beca annoyed, "This is all your fault!"
With that, his lips forcefully descended.
Tangling with the fragrance of peach blossom wine in their mouth.
She opened her eyes, her almond-shaped eyes curved in a smile, revealing a foxy, cunning charm.
Seeing that she was still laughing recklessly, Wen Nian’s movents instantly beca rough; the pajamas, though buttoned, he treated as if they were a pullover and lifted them directly overhead.
Her upper body was imdiately cool.
The thin camisole was utterly incapable of concealing the unbounded allure.
Wen Nian’s movents paused as he looked down at her, his eyes straightening like a wolf sighting prey, revealing a side of greed and thirst.
Tang Xiaohua’s laughter slowly ceased; only the heaving of her chest remained from the laughter that had gone too far.
eting Wen Nian’s gaze... now, anyone would quiet down and be cautious, but it was Tang Xiaohua, and she continued to provoke,
"A virgin male’s technique... tsk tsk, is it too late for to run now..."
At this mont, Wen Nian had already found his answer!
No need to ask; he knew... In the vast gap between them, she had been with soone else!
A fleeting affair or out of hunger and need, she had been with soone else!
