Ann Vaughn was utterly incredulous as she listened, and asked in shock, "Reese Lynch’s husband and family refuse to co over?"

What kind of weirdos are these??

"Exactly, Reese’s mother-in-law has been urging her to abort this child since she found out it’s a girl, insisting she try again for a son," the assistant said indignantly. "Reese’s husband does whatever his mother says, and he’s not stopping her from aborting, but he certainly doesn’t care about it!"

"And they don’t think, if it weren’t for Reese marrying into their family, how could they lead such a good life now? Otherwise, they might still be struggling for a living! Reese’s parents entrusted their precious daughter to them, not for her to be trampled on!"

The assistant was furious, and her heart ached.

Dealing with the Halloway mother and son, the word ’scum’ doesn’t even begin to describe them.

Hearing the assistant’s accusations, Ann Vaughn couldn’t help thinking about the saffron residual in Reese’s body and frowned.

It shouldn’t be, right...

"Miss Vaughn, you’ve really worked hard for this, and it’s all thanks to your help," the assistant finally rembered to thank Ann Vaughn. "Reese instructed before entering the delivery room. I’ll transfer the money to you now."

"No need." Ann Vaughn shook her head slightly. "The doctors handled the delivery and saving lives. Other than stopping Reese’s bleeding, I didn’t do anything special, so you don’t need to credit ."

If anything, she only signed the consent form for Reese.

At that mont, Ann Vaughn understood that Reese was placing all her hope on her, otherwise, she wouldn’t have even entrusted the consent form to be signed.

But it was obvious that Reese had bet on the right person.

Otherwise, the potential fatal saffron poisoning causing her postpartum hemorrhage might have taken her life.

"You absolutely mustn’t refuse." The assistant imdiately transferred an amount to Ann Vaughn and said with a smile, "It’s getting late. Let arrange for a car to take you ho, and thank you so much."

Looking at the assistant and thinking of Reese’s mother-in-law, Ann Vaughn sighed internally at the vast difference between people.

"No need, go about your work. Just let know when Reese wakes up."

Saying this, Ann Vaughn turned and walked towards the elevator.

As she waited for the elevator, Ann Vaughn took out her phone and saw dozens of missed calls and ssages.

Only two were from Cyrus Hawthorne, and the ssages were courteous, not pressing at all.

It was as if they had returned to their initial interactions, yet there wasn’t a single word of explanation about last night.

Ann Vaughn felt a touch of an odd feeling in her heart, her delicate finger tapping the screen as a faint sneer slowly appeared in her eyes.

Indeed, it was all drunken nonsense. Only a fool would believe it.

Ann Vaughn didn’t leave the hospital; instead, she went to Susie Somrs’ room.

Surprisingly, despite the late hour, Susie was still awake, busy working on a new program proposal that hadn’t passed before.

"You’re still pregnant, don’t push yourself too hard; it’s bad for your health," Ann Vaughn said as she sat down, her brows furrowing.

Susie giggled, "It’s fine, I can handle it. But why are you still at the hospital so late? Is your head aching again?"

Just as she said that, Susie’s phone rang.

Susie’s smile disappeared, and with a cold face she hung up the call, this ti unhesitatingly blacklisting the number.

Seeing this, Ann Vaughn looked puzzled, "A harassing call?"

"Help sent by Leona Chambers," Susie shrugged. "Probably sent to vent her anger for her, but why should I endure such nonsense?"

If it was anyone else calling, Susie might have been in the mood to argue them into silence.

But Julian Master Moore...

Forget it.

She shouldn’t have had any unrealistic expectations of him anyway.

"I was the one who hit her, and I was the one who used the itching powder. If anyone tries to take it out on you, just call ," Ann Vaughn smiled coldly. "I’ll let them taste it too."

Susie burst out laughing, gathered all the papers on her bed, and then patted the bed beside her, saying, "Get up here! I want to sleep together with you!"

Ann Vaughn didn’t refuse, she took off her shoes and lay down, nestled on the soft pillow, and finally, her tired body was able to relax after a long day.

"Susie, do you not want the child?" After a hesitation, Ann Vaughn asked.

"The biological father of this child is going to marry another woman. How pathetic would I have to be to want to keep this child?" Susie said nonchalantly. "Keep it to upset that man, or to upset myself?"

Hearing her words, Ann Vaughn felt sowhat conflicted.

These past few days she had been unable to contact Kressiel, so she still didn’t know who her son was or where he was.

As for the child’s father...

That man called Cyrus Hawthorne, what role exactly did he play in her past life?

A mother’s enemy or... husband?

Reeling between conflicting accounts from Kressiel and Warren Vance, Ann Vaughn couldn’t be sure which was the truth, the confusion inside her growing heavier.

...

Master Moore Family Villa.

Since Julian Master Moore announced his engagent to Letitia Chambers, he moved back to live at the Master Moore Family mansion, where Letitia also occupied a room.

However, this greatly facilitated Leona Chambers, who, under the pretense of visiting her sister, kept pestering Silas Master Moore, both seducing and offering herself, clinging tighter than a limpet.

Yesterday, after warning Susie Somrs, Leona returned to the Master Moore Family and noticed her face started itching. Initially, she thought it was due to dry skin.

However, for so unknown reason, her face itched more and more, scratching didn’t help, and after a doctor’s visit, she was only told it was a skin allergy and was given so dication to take.

But it was utterly useless.

Eventually, Leona’s entire face beca red and swollen, accentuating the slap marks on both cheeks, significantly diminishing her once pure appearance.

Leona guessed that Ann Vaughn must have done sothing when she slapped her face, but she didn’t say anything, instead placing the bla on Susie Somrs.

Letitia, feeling sorry for her sister, frowned instinctively upon hearing this, "Could you be mistaken? How could Susie do such a thing?"

"I went to the hospital with good intentions. She wasn’t grateful and slapped twice! My face started itching as soon as I left the hospital; if not her, then who?" Leona said resentfully.

Hospital?

Julian’s fingers holding the edge of the book tightened slightly, but his gentle face showed no sign of change.

"I really didn’t expect that." Letitia sighed and told Julian, "Julian, Susie might be upset because of , but if she’s angry, she should co at . My sister is innocent, she shouldn’t suffer this for ..."

Between her words, she clearly conveyed to Julian that Susie vented her anger towards them on Leona.

As she stepped on Susie, she also crafted a narrative as a good sister who loves and protects her sibling. It was a clever move.
