Ann Vaughn’s chest tightened, her eyelashes fluttered lightly, and she slowly opened her eyes that were clouded with confusion.

She didn’t understand.

She had known Jas Vaughn for less than two months, at most a month since they confird their relationship.

She didn’t believe that in such a short ti, Jas Vaughn’s feelings for her could be so deep and intense that he would feel he couldn’t live without her.

Unless—

Those words just now weren’t ant for her, but through her, he was speaking to another woman.

Thinking of this, Ann Vaughn suddenly rembered the last ti she saw Jas Vaughn on the roadside holding a woman, and later when she called him, it was a woman who answered the phone.

She never brought these two things up to Jas Vaughn, not because she didn’t care, but because she trusted him, so she chose not to be suspicious.

But at this mont Ann Vaughn couldn’t help but speculate in her heart; just now, who exactly did Jas Vaughn take her for?

Was it that woman from last ti, or Kenny’s mommy, his ex-wife?

Ann Vaughn couldn’t figure it out, and she... didn’t want to understand.

She didn’t know how long it had been, but Ann Vaughn had fallen asleep in Cyrus Hawthorne’s arms, and then he gently released the tight grip around her body and softly laid her down.

"Mr. Hawthorne, may I co in?" Breeze stood outside the room and asked, only entering after receiving permission from Cyrus Hawthorne.

After completing the usual check-up on Ann Vaughn, Breeze placed a dicinal patch on her forehead and inadvertently caught sight of the open jar of ointnt on the table, his eyes imdiately went wide.

Goodness, the jar that was once full to the brim now only had a shallow layer left.

—A small scratch, yet it was treated with the quantity ant for a severed limb!?

Breeze almost went crazy on the spot.

"How is she doing?" Cyrus Hawthorne asked in a deep voice.

Breeze snapped out of his breakdown and reluctantly looked away from the precious dicine, replying, "The fever has gone down, but it might recur tonight, so keep an eye on her. Also, her body is still very weak; it won’t get better overnight. She needs to continue taking the dicine I prescribed, and she should recover in a week at most."

"Is there any ntal abnormality?"

"No, everything is normal except for the mory sealed off by Ryan Wyatt."

Everything is normal?

Cyrus Hawthorne’s narrowed eyes slightly closed, his cold gaze lingered on Ann Vaughn’s little face, now pale and nearly transparent after the flushing subsided, but her eye circles were strangely tinged with a faint red.

Like a kitten bullied and curling up to lick its wounds, pitiful yet cute.

...

The next day.

Ann Vaughn hadn’t returned to Unit 16, and even though Eli Sheridan was aware and assured she was at Unit 8, after two days, he couldn’t help but co to fetch her.

By the ti he arrived, Eli Sheridan was sowhat dissatisfied inside; they hadn’t even remarried, yet this man had already coaxed his sister ho and wouldn’t let her go. Did Cyrus Hawthorne ask for this brother’s opinion?

The master bedroom door was half-open, and just as Eli Sheridan was about to enter, he caught a strong scent of dicine.

Looking up, the afternoon light stread through the window, filling the room with brightness.

Ann Vaughn was sitting on the backlit sofa, holding a foreign book, her delicate porcelain face focused intensely, seemingly oblivious to everything around her.

...Including the man beside her with tightly furrowed eyebrows and an austere expression.

"The dicine will get cold if you don’t drink it soon." The man’s voice was low and cold, carrying a strong warning.

Ann Vaughn didn’t speak; she finished a page and turned to the next.

"You better not test my patience with you. Are you going to drink it or not?"

Ann Vaughn still didn’t speak, her little face calm; besides her eyes moving, she didn’t budge, thoroughly ignoring the man.

"Ann, Vaughn!" The man’s patience finally ran out.

Hearing this, Eli Sheridan suddenly couldn’t listen any longer, his heart burning with rage. Was this how Cyrus Hawthorne usually threatened his sister?!

He was just about to step forward when he saw Cyrus Hawthorne, with a cold face, scoop Ann Vaughn onto his lap, pull the book from her hands, and bow his head to bite her pale lips heavily, speaking in a harsh tone.

"Try not drinking it again, see if I don’t kiss you to death?"

Ann Vaughn: "..."

Eli Sheridan: "..."

Eli Sheridan’s just-turned-cold gaze imdiately turned speechless.

The outside world should see, the emperor figure they saw as decisive and bloodthirsty was really just a big childish goof.

"President Hawthorne bullying my sister in front of isn’t right, is it?"

Hearing the familiar voice, Ann Vaughn, embraced by Cyrus Hawthorne, lit up and imdiately wanted to get up and go over.

Unfortunately, the arm hooked around her waist blocked her path, and she fell back again.

Cyrus Hawthorne held the restless little thing in his arms and looked up at Eli Sheridan with a half-smiling curve on his thin lips, "You’re just in ti."

Eli Sheridan paused, looking at him doubtfully.

"Your sister refuses to drink the dicine because it’s bitter. As her brother, shouldn’t you try to persuade her?"

Ann Vaughn: ??

He actually tattled!

Ann Vaughn was so angry she could have bitten him, struggling and flailing her arms and legs desperately towards Eli Sheridan’s direction, finally speaking her first words of the day:

"Brother! Save !"

Seeing her so lively, Eli Sheridan’s recently raised heart imdiately settled down, although he frowned slightly looking at her slightly pale face.

"Cyrus Hawthorne, you didn’t tell Ann was sick."

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have waited this long to co for her.

"It’s just a regular fever; I was busy taking care of her and forgot to ntion it." Cyrus Hawthorne’s expression was indifferent as he discreetly captured Ann Vaughn’s flailing little hands, smoothly pressing her restless little head into his chest again.

Ann Vaughn: ???

Busy taking care of her, my foot!

He was busy bullying her, wasn’t he!!

"Brother, don’t believe him. I don’t want to drink the dicine; I want to go ho." Ann Vaughn, her little face pressed against Cyrus Hawthorne’s warm chest and unable to turn, had to speak loudly to Eli Sheridan.

If it were just a while ago, Eli Sheridan might have taken her away without a word, but hearing she didn’t want to take the dicine, he said helplessly, "Ann, be good. The dicine isn’t bitter; you can drink it in one gulp. After you finish it, I’ll take you ho, okay?"

Ann Vaughn wanted to say no, but Eli Sheridan sincerely cared for her, and saying that would only make him feel bad.

"Okay."

Hearing Ann Vaughn agree, Cyrus Hawthorne’s thin lips pressed tightly, his narrow eyes filled with displeasure.

Heartless little thing.

Being stared at by two big shots, Ann Vaughn couldn’t play tricks, so she gulped down the dicine with a bitter face, then stuffed a handful of preserved fruits into her mouth to suppress the dicinal taste, finally breathing a sigh of relief.

"Brother, let’s go ho!" she said, trying to leave Cyrus Hawthorne’s embrace, "Let go!"

Eli Sheridan also looked at Cyrus Hawthorne with displeasure, as if to ask how long he intended to hold his sister.

"Let’s put this matter aside for now." Cyrus Hawthorne’s thin lips curved slightly as he set Ann Vaughn back on the sofa, then stood up and spoke to Eli Sheridan, "Let’s talk."

Suspecting it had sothing to do with Ann Vaughn, Eli Sheridan nodded in agreent.

Ann Vaughn originally wanted to follow them out, but unfortunately, Cyrus Hawthorne didn’t give her the opportunity.
