"..."

Sumr Ainsworth finally let out the frustration she had endured from Director Dayne when she saw all the praise for her.

@Sylvia Lane liked and shared your post on Weibo.

"Little Junior Sister, you’ve worked hard, keep it up. (like)"

She frowned, "Sylvia Lane, that bitch actually liked my post, what’s she up to?"

The two of them were in the sa company, competing for resources both openly and covertly.

On the surface, they were the company’s rising stars, all smiles and cordial, occasionally promoting each other, but they didn’t know how many tis they’d clashed in private.

Sylvia Lane never liked her posts; the previous promo posts were just orders from the company they had to follow.

Others might not know what Sylvia Lane was like, but Sumr Ainsworth was well aware — one way in public, another way in private, a typical two-faced bitch.

She didn’t plan to bother with manners and simply closed her Weibo, not planning to respond.

A cheerful ringtone sounded suddenly, and Sumr Ainsworth pursed her lips impatiently. Her mood soured when she glanced at the caller’s na.

She hung up directly, but the calls kept coming through, making it impossible for her to enjoy her phone activities.

Out of options, Sumr Ainsworth pressed the answer button.

"Is this Sumr Ainsworth?"

With a delicate voice, Sumr Ainsworth was unwilling to show weakness, "It’s , Sylvia, what’s up?"

"I’ve called you several tis, why did you hang up?"

Having been tricked by Sylvia Lane before, Sumr Ainsworth remained more vigilant, speaking without much edge, "By accident, sorry, Sylvia."

Sylvia Lane was still on set and had just rembered, after seeing Sumr’s photo post, that Sumr was in the sa production as Maeve Lane.

An idea popped into her mind, curious if Sumr thought the sa.

Sylvia Lane probed, "Is the female lead of your production nad Maeve Lane?"

Sumr Ainsworth replied, "Yeah."

Didn’t she know? Why pretend to ask?

"Isn’t she exceptionally pretty and matches perfectly with Best Actor Fairchild?" Sylvia asked insincerely, "Even before she beca famous, she landed the role of the female lead in Director Dayne’s drama. Her acting must be incredible, right?"

She sounded purely curious, like she was just probing for fun.

But that’s not how it ca across to Sumr Ainsworth’s ears.

Each line sounded very grating to her.

Pretty? Prettier than her? Maeve Lane only looked decent because of the styling and makeup!

With Best Actor Fairchild, a perfect match? It twisted Sumr’s heart. Every ti her opportunities with Julian Fairchild were blocked by Maeve’s manager; otherwise, it might have been her Julian defended so fiercely on Weibo!

Such a great chance to connect with Julian Fairchild, all snatched away by that Maeve!

And a female lead, making a top actress like her just a supporting role!

She had never been this fed up with a woman!

Hearing the discontented breaths over the line, Sylvia Lane sensed she had guessed right.

Sure enough, within seconds, Sumr Ainsworth excitedly retorted, "What’s pretty about her? Just her eyes are passable, her skin a bit fairer, but nowhere near a match with Julian Fairchild, not a hint of chemistry. Once this show wraps, it’ll stir no waves!"

Her words brimd with indignation and frustration.

Sylvia Lane continued, "Sumr, do you really dislike her?"

Sumr clamd up, instinctively covering her phone’s speaker, seeking a secluded spot alertly, "Who said I dislike her? I have no particular feelings, just stating facts."

Sylvia Lane didn’t believe her words, laying it out, "It’s normal not to like her because I don’t like her either."

With this, Sumr’s tense heart slightly relaxed, though she was confused; she had never known the seemingly harmless Sylvia Lane to be so blunt about not liking soone. Had Maeve wronged her sohow before?

She quickly recalled the uproarious incident where Sylvia Lane allegedly bullied a junior actor at the hospital.

Though the company managed PR, there were rumors among insiders about what really happened.

Suddenly, Sumr rembered, that newcor actor... seed to be Maeve Lane!

So Sylvia Lane called not to mock her but because of Maeve?

Quickly, Sylvia’s words confird her suspicion.

"She’s always up to no good, looking to use others to climb the ranks. If you dislike her, I can tell you one of her secrets."

Sumr wasn’t so foolish. It was clear Sylvia disliked Maeve and wanted to use her as a pawn; she declined, "I’m not interested, tell soone else."

"A variety show, a movie." Sylvia was confident.

Sumr suddenly didn’t make a sound, her pupils slightly widening.

"Movie, there’s only one movie you have, isn’t there?"

The one the industry predicts will be a hit!

The movie’s lead female candidates were only two — her and... Sylvia Lane!

Sylvia Lane nonchalantly said, "Yes, that ’Opportunity.’ If you keep Maeve from this film, it’ll be yours."

Sumr was excited, "But how can I ensure she can’t shoot the film?"

"Simple, you just need to be careful." Sylvia’s eyes flashed with irony, "She’s allergic to mangoes; every ti she breaks out, it lasts for a month. If you just add a bit of it to the things around her, Maeve won’t finish shooting and will face a hefty penalty."

Sumr suspiciously asked, "Really? How do you know this much?"

Sylvia mused that in Maeve’s childhood, even touching mangoes caused reactions. In middle school, she was once hospitalized for a month after accidentally drinking mango juice — she looked her most unfortunate, her face also breaking out!

She didn’t believe Maeve, with a face like that, could continue filming.

"If you don’t believe it, you can try. It costs you nothing; you didn’t know she’s allergic to mangoes in advance." Sylvia checked the ti; it was ti for shooting, "If it’s discovered, you can claim ignorance, but if successful, ’Opportunity’ will be yours, and you won’t have to see soone you hate."

Thinking it over, Sumr felt it made sense, though she wasn’t completely assured, "Words won’t suffice, I need it in writing with you personally calling the ’Opportunity’ crew, or I’ll turn you in!"

"Whatever." Sylvia didn’t care about such minor resources.

Mrs. Fairchild was thoroughly satisfied with her, seeing her as a daughter-in-law, and Grandpa Fairchild adored her too.

As long as Maeve was out of the picture, she’d prevent all contacts with Julian Fairchild!

There wouldn’t be another chance!

With Maeve away, she’d feel far more at ease... Compared to being the Fairchild daughter-in-law, these small resources ant nothing.

...

During lunch break, Sumr indeed received a printed certificate.

It even bore Sylvia Lane’s signature.

Sumr clutched the paper tightly, her gaze crossing the unobtrusive, handso man speaking with Maeve. Her eyes glimred with cunning, "Lewis, I have a craving for mangoes, go get so and leave them in my hotel room."

Lewis, her assistant, responding, "Alright."

...

Maeve was still eating... Julian Fairchild sat across from her.

When she ate, her lashes drooped, chewing silently.

Miles Hughes and Sarah Sutton had knowingly left space for them.

He glanced at Maeve’s lunch, putting so at from his bowl into hers, "Eat more."

Maeve glanced up and didn’t hesitate to put it back, "Okay."

Silence.

The only sounds at the dining table were of the spoon and chopsticks clinking against the plates and bowls.

Julian Fairchild put down his chopsticks, staring intently at her, eyes deep, "How’s Mom’s health?"

Maeve paused her movents, slightly surprised, she lifted her eyes to et his gaze, "No major issues for now."

"Okay." Julian’s eyes stayed locked with hers in the air.

His Adam’s apple bobbed, "Next ti, take with you."
