The sweet sll of warm, fluffy pancakes filled the room. They were made by Daniel, the man who is often said to be too busy to spend ti with her. Actually, he didn't lack ti to spend with her; he just didn't want to.

How ironic, Chantelle thought, a bitter laugh rising in her chest.

Though sadness filled her heart, she almost got up to leave. But a part of her still wanted to stay and fulfill her old wish. I'll just have one bite.

She sat down and silently began eating the pancake. It was delicious!

"How's the pancake, Ms. Bently? Is it to your liking?"

"Hmm, it's good. You cook well, Mr. Wilson."

"Glad you like it."

Chantelle couldn't help but say, "Mrs. Wilson must have been lucky. You have such great cooking skills."

"Unfortunately, she never got to try my breakfast. I regretted that, so I learned and hoped one day I could serve breakfast for her," Daniel said seriously. He then placed another piece of freshly made pancake on Chantelle's plate.

Chantelle felt a pang of sadness and confusion as she stared at the golden-brown pancake.

Monts later, Calvin's voice echoed in the dining room.

"Ms. Bently, the auction starts at ten," Calvin said casually as he entered the dining room, checking his watch and ignoring Daniel. "We need to leave soon."

"Okay, let's go." Chantelle quickly left the room without saying anything else.

The auction was at Easthan Hotel.

Chantelle wore a form-fitting black dress with small diamonds scattered across it, making it sparkle. Her long hair was softly curled and neatly styled behind her face.

When she walked into the hotel in her black high heels, she caught everyone's attention.

What she didn't expect was to saw a familiar face from a distance as soon as she entered the auction hall.

Daniel, dressed in a perfectly fitting velvet suit, stood out from the crowd like a noble aristocrat.

Wasn't he at my house? How did he get here so quickly?

As soon as Daniel saw her, his well-defined face broke into a playful smile.

She deliberately ignored him and chose a seat far from him.

The auction, organized by the Charity Association, aid to raise money to build schools in the slums.

As the chairman of the association, Chantelle felt it was her responsibility to support the event. She also wanted to help less fortunate students get an education.

The Wilson family had stayed away from charity events ever since the news of Kate's charity fraud spread.

When Calvin gave her the guest list for today's auction, Daniel's na wasn't on it.

Chantelle was confused by Daniel's unexpected appearance.

What is he doing here? Did he follow to the auction?

anwhile, the won from wealthy families in Easthan began whispering about her as she wondered why Daniel was there.

"What's going on with Chantelle and Daniel? Are they fighting?"

"She's so bold, ignoring him like that!"

"What a rude and obnoxious woman!"

"She thinks everyone is beneath her just because Daniel likes her."

"She'll be in big trouble if she annoys Daniel!"

Chantelle ignored their whispers as she focused on the auction. She didn't care about comparing herself to others.

"Next, we have a jade necklace designed by Ms. Corrine, a famous international designer. The starting bid is one hundred million dollars." The auctioneer's loud, enthusiastic voice filled the room. A woman stood behind him, wearing the necklace made of diamond-studded jade beads.

Chantelle, who had been silently watching, raised her paddle as the auctioneer finished speaking.

"200 million," she said in a serious tone.

Daniel quickly raised his paddle when he heard Chantelle's bid.

How could she pay for what she wants herself? I'll pay for it instead!

"400 million," he called out, doubling the bid imdiately.

Chantelle was shocked by Daniel's bid. She hadn't expected him to be interested in a necklace worth 500 thousand dollars.

She raised the price quickly, "600 million!" She smirked, knowing he would never let himself lose in an auction.

"One billion!" soone else raised the price just as quickly as she had predicted.

It was bold and generous to bid that much.

Chantelle looked at the generous man and thought, he'll have the honor of helping to build schools in the slums.

"One billion, going once! Twice! Thrice!" The auctioneer paused briefly before continuing, "Sold!"

After the event ended, the owner of the auction house approached Daniel and said, "Congratulations, Mr. Wilson. You won the necklace. We'll have it delivered to your residence."

"Please send it to Ms. Bently. It's a gift from ," Daniel replied casually.

Daniel's voice was soft, but his eyes were cold.

When he looked at Chantelle, a trace of warmth appeared in his eyes.

The auction house owner acted quickly. He grabbed the jade necklace and hurried to Chantelle.

"Ms. Bently, Mr. Wilson bought this for you. He hopes you'll like it."

He smiled at Chantelle, treating her with the utmost respect as if she were already Daniel's wife.

Chantelle turned to Calvin. "Since Mr. Wilson bought the necklace, you should take it. Thank him on my behalf for supporting the charity auction."

She stood up and walked away, ignoring the envious stares of Easthan's socialites.

"Why does Mr. Wilson care so much about her? She's so lucky!"

"What's so special about her? She's rude and full of herself."

"Exactly! I'm way more gentle than she is!"

The socialites whispered behind Chantelle's back and their words were filled with envy and resentnt.

Daniel wasn't bothered by their gossip. Instead, he smiled upon hearing them.

He was determined to repay everything he owed her.

One day, Chantelle would be the most admired woman in Easthan. The socialites would envy her, but she would live her life freely.

Half an hour later, she arrived at Western Hill Villa.

"Ms. Bently, what should I do with this necklace? Should I put it in the vault?"

"Nah. Do whatever you want with it."

Chantelle gave the necklace in Calvin's hand a quick, cold glance. Her eyes held no emotion.

She had no interest in anything from Daniel.

A mont later, she suddenly turned as if sothing had just crossed her mind.

"Has the money been transferred?"

"Yes. One billion dollars, not a cent less," Calvin replied in his usual calm tone. He followed behind Chantelle, holding the box with the necklace.

"Good. Make sure the donations are processed as promised."

Chantelle ordered and a faint smile appeared on her lips.

She had designed the necklace on a whim one night after becoming a full-ti jewelry designer.
