Earlier, he had climbed onto his father, playing with his eyelashes.
By accident, he pressed down on Daniel's lower abdon.
Even in his unconscious state, Daniel frowned in pain.
A faint stain of blood spread under his white shirt.
That's when Kane realized his scumbag father wasn't just sick—his wound was inflad.
His small action had only made it worse.
Feeling guilty, he tried to fix what he had done.
He put glue on the lashes he had plucked and tried to stick them back.
Before he could finish, Chantelle and Philip rushed in, ruining his plan.
He had no choice but to give up.
Upstairs. Bedroom.
Kane crawled under the covers when his phone buzzed with a notification.
"Golden Child has received 1,000,000 dollars!"
His jaw dropped when he saw the amount in his account. He was excited.
"Mom, why did you give so much money? Did you raise my allowance?!"
He rushed to his mother with a big smile, acting like an innocent child.
Chantelle turned to leave. "Stay up here and be good. Upgrade your equipnt. Didn't you ask for this before?"
She gave instructions to her son, but her mind was already downstairs.
With that, she disappeared quickly.
Kane felt guilty for his scumbag father, but the million dollars his mother gave him was too tempting.
He decided to stop fooling around and followed her instructions, heading straight for the software store.
The latest upgrade gadget was powerful enough to compete against the military-grade firewalls.
It was called "Hacker's Hand," an attack system.
He also grabbed several Trojan horse gadgets he had been eyeing for a while.
They were precious to him.
Downstairs. Lounge.
Philip was busy giving Daniel an IV and treating his wounds.
Daniel, however, remained dopy and restless.
"Chantelle, what happened back then... It was my fault. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry." Daniel mumbled, calling out for her.
Philip, who was changing the gauze, frowned. "Damn, Daniel. You're really out of it."
He sighed, unsure whether to feel sorry for his friend or be glad about his misfortune.
If he hadn't seen it himself, he wouldn't have believed that Daniel would let a woman control him like this.
That woman was also the ex-wife he had abandoned so cruelly!
"How is he?"
Chantelle ca downstairs and asked softly. She tried her best to hide her concern, but it was clear in her eyes.
"Not looking too good."
Philip didn't even look up, too focused on patching him up.
Chantelle's face showed no emotion, but her heart was pulling her in different directions.
"Why do you keep avoiding , Chantelle?"
"Do you really hate that much?"
Her worry intensified as Daniel whose still drowsy, suddenly talked again.
He even grabbed her wrist.
"Are you awake, Daniel?!"
Philip watched in disbelief as Daniel ignored him and reached his target with surprising accuracy.
He couldn't believe a seriously injured and unconscious person could do that.
Chantelle was confused too and tried to pull away from his grip.
But her soft heart stopped her from pushing him away.
"Chantelle, Chantelle..."
Though he was unconscious, all Daniel could see in his mind was Chantelle.
When they first married, she always waited to eat with him.
She greeted him with a sweet smile whenever he ca back from abroad.
She'd gently stroke her belly, her eyes filled with stars as she carefully checked off things on a list.
The mories flooded him, and all he could see was her smile.
In the past, he had only felt disgusted, but now it seed out of his reach.
****
In a bridal shop.
Thea was sewing buttons onto her latest creation.
At that mont, a well-dressed middle-aged couple entered, walking in, hand in hand.
"Welco. Are you here to choose a gown?"
The clerks were away, so Thea put her work down to greet the couple.
Her smile faded when she looked up.
The woman was Ruby Bently—Chantie's birth mother, just as cruel as the stepmothers in fairy tales.
The man with her didn't seem anywhere near as impressive as Roman.
Holy crap! Is this really happening?!
Her mind went blank. She didn't know what to say.
She had just caught her best friend's mother cheating. This was beyond awkward!
Thank goodness she didn't seem to recognize .
Ruby had always been cold toward Chantelle. It made sense she wouldn't care about her friends or who she associated with.
She and Chantelle had known each other since college, but Thea had never visited the Bently household.
Kate's habit of inviting bad friends to celebrate every birthday had always made her angry.
Now, she was glad she had never formally t them.
"What do you think of this one, Jas?"
Thea kept up her friendly smile, but Ruby's voice made her feel sick.
It was annoyingly sweet. She almost gagged.
"Yes! This one looks good! You have a great figure. Anything would look good on you."
Jas Lowe gave Ruby a loving look.
Ruby had fair skin and sultry looks. Despite her age, she took good care of herself.
Though she was middle-aged, she still carried herself with grace—exactly his type.
"Such a smooth talker at your age," she replied in a shy tone.
But her attitude shifted the mont she looked at Thea.
With arrogance, she snapped, "What are you staring at? Are you going to take it down for to try on?"
Thea was disgusted by her fake attitude.
Thinking the money to be paid for the gown, Thea took a deep breath and went on. She smiled sweetly and quickly grabbed the gown, ntally calculating the cost.
Ten minutes later, Ruby stepped out of the dressing room in her heels.
Jas' eyes widened in surprise.
"We'll take it!"
Jas truly loved her and didn't hesitate to spend on her.
Without a second thought, he handed Thea his card.
"Of course. I'll be right back with it."
"You're very thoughtful, sir. You're really lucky, ma'am!"
Thea took the card with both hands and gave Ruby a aningful smile.
Ruby sensed the hidden aning in Thea's eyes and felt uncomfortable.
"He treats well."
Ruby felt guilty, but she couldn't admit that Jas wasn't her legal husband.
It would be ridiculous for others to find out she had brought her lover out shopping. She'd be the joke.
She had no choice but to give a half-hearted smile.
Jas looked surprised by Thea's words but was pleased to see Ruby didn't argue.
The money spent seed worth it!
