Chantelle got out of the car, climbed through the window, and entered his room.

Roman lived a simple life now. The room held nothing except a big wardrobe and a bed.

He was asleep, snoring loudly.

She carefully placed caras at the head of his bed and inside his closet. She hid so caras on a few of his clothes and in every corner of his ho, as well as in his car.

She then told Jacob to monitor all the caras and send her the footage imdiately if anything unusual happened.

She believed the lucky charm was evil, but she didn’t think it was causing these accidents.

Next, she went to Joseph’s rose castle again. But ever since the dungeon girl incident, the castle had been abandoned. She found nothing there.

On her way ho, she got a call from Thea.

"How are you and Mr. Wilson? Did you hear? After Camille embarrassed herself, she caused a huge scene at the engagent party. She cried and said she was being frad, and she even tried to target you again, but I shut her down! You were correct all this ti. She can only dream of dragging you down."

Thea sounded excited. She had held back from calling because she didn’t want to interrupt Chantelle’s ti alone with Daniel.

"Soone live-stread the whole thing. She was crying about not wanting to marry Joseph. Joseph’s father got angry and said they didn’t want a shrew like her, too. She was so embarrassed that she ran away."

"Where are you now, Thea?" Chantelle suddenly felt worried. She wondered if the people around her might also be in danger.

Thea sounded confused. "I’m at my store. Why? Did Camille go looking for you? Wait there. I’ll co over soon. I’m telling you, you don’t need to be polite to soone like her."

"I’m fine. She didn’t co to . Just stay where you are. I’m heading over." Chantelle turned her car around and drove straight to the boutique.

If an accident was going to happen, she would face it. She trusted herself to uncover clues on her own.

Her drive to the boutique went smoothly, and she t Thea, who looked worried, too.

Thea pulled her into the private lounge and handed her a glass of warm water. "What did you an earlier? What do you an you’ve been running into accidents? Did Trenton co back?"

Chantelle shook her head. "Roman ca to see this morning about his recent bad luck. Strange things keep happening to him. After he left, I walked outside the villa, and a flower pot dropped right onto . If Mr. Wilson hadn’t blocked it, I’d be in the hospital now."

"Are you sure Roman isn’t behind this? Maybe he’s working with so shaman to trick you?" Thea asked. She was much more superstitious than Chantelle and Daniel. The ntion of anything supernatural made her feel anxious.

Fortunately, she had been raised in an atheist household, so she imdiately considered the possibility of a human cause.

"No. Ashton checked the roof. No one touched the flower pot. It really looked like an accident. I also sneaked into Roman’s place. He had wards everywhere and even garlic hanging around. He’s terrified."

Roman had even been sleeping with one of those wards stuck to his body.

"Are you cursed, too? Are only the two of you having bad luck? Nothing happened to Mr. Wilson?" Thea asked.

She shook her head. "Nothing has happened to him so far."

It was only that he had been hurt twice while trying to protect her.

"We should get a shaman then." Thea had already accepted that sothing strange was going on and assud the lucky charm was the cause.

She helped Chantelle take it off. "You shouldn’t keep wearing this. It’s scary."

"I feel strange when I’m not wearing it. And if these accidents are planned, the person behind them will probably co after the charm. If I hide it, how am I supposed to catch them?"

Chantelle put the charm back on.

Thea stood up in panic. "You’re using yourself as bait?! Are you trying to get yourself killed?! Did Mr. Wilson agree to this?"

"He told to stay ho..." Before she could finish, the door burst open.

Daniel stood at the entrance, panting hard, and glaring straight at Chantelle.

Chantelle wasn’t scared at all. She simply asked, "What are you doing here?"

"Excuse ? Do you think I’m here to shop or grab a al? Why can’t you just listen for once? Are you planning to scare to death before you’re satisfied?"

His words ca out without restraint, but every bit of his scolding was filled with worry and love.

Thea left the room quickly.

Chantelle didn’t think she’d done anything wrong and said plainly, "Avoiding it won’t solve anything. How are we supposed to catch the culprit if we keep hiding?"

"There are countless ways to catch soone," Daniel shot back. "Why do you always choose the most dangerous one? Have you even thought about what will happen to the children if sothing happens to you? What about ? Do you know I can’t live without you now?"

The more he talked, the angrier he beca. By the end, he was shouting.

She had been angry too, but his words imdiately put out the fire inside her.

She took a slow breath and gently patted his shoulder. "Alright. Calm down so we can talk."

Daniel sat on the couch and looked away, staring at the floor in a daze.

She waited until his breathing steadied, then pulled a chair over and sat across from him. "If all Grandpa Wesley could tell you was that the charm is dangerous, and not the details, then it ans he couldn’t find anything either. If I hide, it won’t matter how much manpower you use. You won’t find anything. But if I go out more, whoever is behind this won’t be able to resist making a move. The mont they do, we can follow their trail."

"You always say I’m overbearing and that I decide things on my own when sothing goes wrong without asking you. But aren’t you doing the sa thing? You did it back on the island. And now you’re doing it again. I want to know how important the children and I really are to you."

He ran a hand through his hair, sounding defeated and unsure.

His words stunned her. She had to admit it made her realize her own double standards. She wanted Daniel to respect her opinions and discuss everything with her, yet she wasn’t giving him the sa in return.
