"I’ll be waiting," Xander said with a small smile. "I ordered two upgraded invisibility cloaks before the accident. I’ll give them to you when you co back."
He didn’t ask them to stay. There was no point. Not with Daniel around. Even if Chantelle wanted to, she couldn’t.
"Really? Really? I love you, Godfather!"
Kane forgot all about Railer’s instructions the mont he heard about the upgraded invisibility cloak. He threw himself at Xander and hugged him tightly.
Daniel stood off to the side, sneering silently.
It’s just an invisibility cloak. He was already ssaging Ashton to prepare ten of them.
"The one I gave you for your third birthday must be too small now," Xander said, gently patting Kane’s head.
Hearing that, Chantelle was so overjoyed. He had done so much for her and the kids.
"Yeah. I told Steph about it, but she didn’t believe . Can you make one for Rai too?" Kane sat by Xander’s bed, clearly not ready to leave.
Before Xander could answer, Daniel scooped Kane up. "Uncle Xander is still recovering. Don’t bother him. You’ve got . I’ll buy you anything you want."
"But godfather..." Kane looked back at Xander.
Daniel turned him around and headed out. "I’ll get you Spiderman protective gear."
"Really? Like the real Spiderman?" Kane’s eyes lit up.
"Yes. I’ll also build you a brand-new computer with top specs," Daniel said.
Kane jumped up in excitent. "I want a race car too! One that can turn into King Kong!"
"Okay. I’ll get you whatever you want. Everyone gets one."
"You’re the best, Daddy!"
Chantelle felt a headache coming on as she listened to them. Was Daniel seriously going to spoil Kane with everything he asked for? She grabbed Railer’s hand and gave Daniel a sharp pinch on the waist.
"Don’t just buy him everything he asks for. His room’s not a storage room," Chantelle said.
Daniel just smiled and didn’t respond. He turned to look back and saw Stephanie still standing by Xander’s bed. Xander was gently pinching her cheek, making Daniel frown.
"Ti to go, princess," he called.
Stephanie gave Xander a sweet smile, then ran over to Daniel, who scooped her into his arms.
Xander felt sad watching the family of five leave.
Stephanie’s words echoed in his mind—"Mommy will cry if Daddy leaves."
Xander had seen Chantelle cry over Daniel more than once during the past six years he stayed by her side. He always thought it was because she resented Daniel’s reckless behavior. He never once thought it might be because she still loved him.
Even Stephanie could see how much her mother loved their dad. It was only Chantelle who kept denying it.
He had to recover quickly. He was scared now. Scared that if he didn’t, he might never see her again.
While the family was on the way ho, Chantelle’s phone rang. It was Calvin.
"Trenton has shown himself, Ms. Chantelle."
"Good," Chantelle said, glancing over at Daniel as he drove.
When they stopped at a red light, she spoke up. "I want to see an old friend. Just drop off at the next street."
"You don’t want us to co with you?" Daniel asked, raising an eyebrow.
She shook her head. "No need. I’ll go on my own."
Daniel didn’t like that. He stared at her, clearly not ready to let her go alone.
"She’s a woman! A woman, okay?" Chantelle said quickly, trying to lie.
"In this day and age, even won aren’t safe anymore," Daniel replied, still driving. He reached the street she ntioned, but didn’t stop.
Her heart started to race. Trenton showing up so suddenly could only an one thing: he was after the special redy. If she didn’t take this chance to catch him, it would only get harder later.
But she couldn’t risk dragging Daniel and the kids into it.
"Can you stop being so unreasonable, Mr. Wilson? I have my own life to live. Let off!" Her tone got colder as anger began to flare.
Daniel didn’t say a word and stomped the gas pedal to speed up the car.
Noticing the tension, Stephanie looked up at Chantelle and asked, "Who are you going to see, Mommy? Is it Ms. Lily?"
Chantelle saw the pain in her daughter’s eyes and felt guilty. Her voice softened. "Yes. I want to see Lily."
"But Ms. Lily already moved to Ledora. She visited before she left," Kane added.
"Really? When did she move to Ledora?" Chantelle sighed to herself. The excuse she made up had fallen apart instantly.
"Right after Mommy ca back to Easthan," Kane said. "Ms. Lily even told she’d buy steak if I visited her in Ledora."
With her excuse falling apart, Chantelle had no choice but to head back to the villa with them.
Still, going back wasn’t the worst thing. She could change into sothing more comfortable. Daniel would definitely scold her if she ended up getting hurt.
She was already thinking of how to get him to leave so she could get changed. But when they pulled into the driveway, Daniel didn’t step out. He just dropped the kids off and said, "I’m craving barbecue ribs tonight."
"Where are you going?" Chantelle asked, eyeing him warily as he started the car again.
He raised an eyebrow. "We’re buying stuff for our son."
"Can you stop spending like there’s no tomorrow? He’s got enough to last him a year and still have extras. Do you even know how much those things cost?" she said, unable to hold back the nagging.
Daniel and the kids just smiled at her, clearly amused.
Then Daniel burst out laughing, unable to stop himself.
It was the first ti she’d ever seen him laugh like that, so full and unguarded.
The kids started laughing too, each in their own silly way.
Chantelle knew they were laughing at her nagging, but the mont was so ridiculous that she couldn’t help but smile too.
"You don’t need to worry, my dearest wife. Your husband’s loaded," Daniel said with a wink.
"None of you knows the value of money. Don’t co crying to when it all runs dry," Chantelle muttered, watching Daniel give her those smug looks like her lecture hadn’t been directed at him at all. And yet, he’d basically admitted she was his wife.
She headed back inside with Kane and Railer holding onto her hands.
Stephanie stayed back for a mont and flashed her dad a peace sign before Daniel drove off.
"I thought you were still making fun of ," Chantelle said, pretending to be upset as she pulled her hands away.
