Gu Lili stretched out her hand to take the phone and glanced at the screen. It was Jingsheng who called, three tis in a row.
It must be sothing important, she was about to call back when the fourth call ca in.
She answered, "Hello."
"Lili, a gunman just tried to assassinate Xichen, we don’t know who it was."
Gu Lili imdiately woke up from her sleep, sat up and asked, "When did it happen? Is he alright?"
"He was wearing a bulletproof vest, he’s fine. But the assailant knew he was wearing it, and though unsuccessful this ti, they likely won’t stop here."
Gu Lili got out of bed, picked up her cashre coat, slung her bag over her shoulder, and walked as she talked, "Where are you guys, I’ll co over now."
...
By the ti she arrived at the Gu Group, it was already twenty minutes later.
Pushing the door open, she saw Gu Xichen working in his office, which she did not expect. "You’re still in the mood to work?"
"There are many who want dead. If I fretted over each one, wouldn’t I work myself to death?"
Gu Lili casually closed the door and turned to Jingsheng, "Did you see who the perpetrator was?"
"We have surveillance footage, and the police have been alerted. It happened right at the company’s entrance." Jingsheng pulled up the footage for her to see. Gu Lili saw that the attacker was so heavily disguised that only their silhouette was discernible, their face completely obscured. "No clear face."
"Wearing a hat, mask, and sunglasses," Jingsheng added. "Can’t make out any features."
"They’ll likely try again," Gu Lili considered for a mont and said, "I’ll call a few brats to stay by your side..."
Before she could finish, Gu Xichen waved his hand dismissively, "No, no, no, I don’t want them, just the thought scares ."
"Why are you always so cowardly?"
"It’s not being cowardly, it’s a normal reaction. Just thinking about having a few brats around, even though I can’t see them, still scares ."
"Then how about I arrange so without telling you?"
"Don’t!" His face full of panic, "Please don’t arrange anything!"
Gu Lili laughed, "Aren’t you afraid that since the attacker knows you wear a bulletproof vest, they might aim directly at your head or neck next ti?"
"One can’t guard against soone who is determined to assassinate you, especially when we truly don’t know who it is this ti."
"Could it be your brother Gu Minlai? Although you’ve arranged for him to stay in a different residence, he’s still alive, right? He could hire soone online."
"What money does he have to hire anyone?"
As they spoke, his phone rang. After taking the call, Gu Xichen’s expression changed.
Hanging up the phone, he said, "My father has escaped from the psychiatric hospital."
Gu Lili took another close look at the silhouette, "You didn’t ntion it, but I see it now, this person has a similar build to your father, though much thinner, making it hard to tell."
Gu Xichen imdiately called the police to apprehend his father.
"He won’t get far," Jingsheng ventured. "If he wants to kill Xichen, he’ll definitely be in City A. First, because Xichen is here; second, because the most dangerous place is the safest—with so many caras around, the police should be able to catch him soon."
Gu Lili pulled out a chair and sat opposite Gu Xichen, leaning back, "Then until he’s caught, why don’t you two stay in this office for a while, just to be safe in case sothing happens. He won’t be able to get into your company, so it’s relatively safe here."
"That’s true, for safety," Jingsheng agreed. "Darling, let’s stay in the office for now, until he’s caught."
