Wei Shaoqin: "..."

Su Mu couldn’t wait for his response, slightly angered, "Speak up!"

"That, I have sothing urgent to deal with right now. I’ll call you back later," Wei Shaoqin said before abruptly hanging up, leaving Su Mu with only a vague understanding of the truth.

She had originally thought that the incident that day would be an accident, but if it was an accident, why then would Fu Shinian resort to such asures against Wei Shaoqin? He was known to fight others with their own thods, but why would Wei Shaoqin do this? And why didn’t Fu Shinian say anything at all?

Lost in her thoughts, Fu Shinian stood by her side:

"What are you thinking about?"

Su Mu ca back to her senses and looked at him. After a few seconds of hesitation, she still spoke up, "Wei Shaoqin just called , saying his car had combusted three tis within a week, and he also said..."

"And he said this was sothing I arranged for soone to do?"

Su Mu didn’t speak, but her silence was undoubtedly a form of tacit agreent.

Fu Shinian smiled faintly:

"Indeed, I did it."

Su Mu wasn’t surprised; she was curious about sothing else, "So, you’re saying the car malfunction at the film studio wasn’t an accident? It was deliberately done by soone, right? And that person is Wei Shaoqin?"

Fu Shinian slightly curved his lips but didn’t respond.

"Why would he do that?"

Su Mu couldn’t understand; was it to hurt her? But that made no sense and had no motive. To hurt Fu Shinian? But how could he be sure that Fu Shinian would definitely co to her rescue? This seed far too risky on Wei Shaoqin’s part.

"Perhaps he was just bored," Fu Shinian said with a light smile. "Let’s not dwell on the past anymore."

Fu Shinian wasn’t telling the truth, and Su Mu knew it well, but if he refused to say more, Su Mu couldn’t force the reasoning out of him. It seed that if she wanted to know the answer, she would have to seek a breakthrough from Wei Shaoqin.

In the evening, Song Yi ca to the old mansion. After dinner, he stayed with Fu Shinian in the study until very late. By the ti Song Yi returned to his room, Su Mu was already nearly asleep, but she still heard him say, "I’ll be going on a business trip tomorrow."

Su Mu jolted awake and turned to look at him:

"Why so sudden? How long will you be gone?"

"About a week," Fu Shinian said, looking at her. "If you find the old house too dull, you can go back to Bishui Yuntian."

Su Mu shook her head:

"I want to stay here with Grandma. That way, you’ll have so peace of mind while you’re away."

When Su Mu woke up the next day, Fu Shinian was already gone from the room. She reached out to touch the spot beside her and felt no warmth, indicating he had left quite a while ago. She had planned to wake up early today to help him pack, but he had kept her up late the night before with his antics, and when they finally went to sleep, it was already getting light. She was too late.

If it weren’t for Wen Han’s call two days later, Su Mu thought she might just wait at the old house until Fu Shinian returned from his trip.

Wen Han’s call ca in as Su Mu was helping Auntie Wang cook lunch in the kitchen, with the old lady sitting in the living room engrossed in watching "Nirvana in Fire," a scene so cozy it felt like the winter sunshine outside, making one yearn to stay.

As Su Mu was plucking celery and listening to Auntie Wang reminisce about Fu Shinian’s childhood, Auntie Wang, despite her blurred vision, still had keen hearing:

"Madam, it sounds like your phone is ringing."

Su Mu focused and heard her own phone ringing indeed. She put down the celery and wiped her hands, "I’ll go take a call."

"Go ahead, and don’t bother coming back after; just keep the old lady company."

Su Mu smiled, found her mobile phone on the dining table, and as she answered, she glanced at the old lady in the living room and gave a slight smile. The second Wen Han’s voice reached her ears, the smile on Su Mu’s lips froze, and even her thoughts stalled for a second or two before it hit her:

"Missing? What do you an? Are you saying Shaoyuan has run away from ho?"

Her voice made the old lady turn around and look over; Su Mu gave her a reassuring smile then stepped aside to continue the call.

"Su Mu, I don’t have ti to explain too much, but Shaoyuan truly is missing. The driver took him to kindergarten in the morning and then ca back. But just now, the teacher called to say Shaoyuan never arrived at school. I’m currently out of the province, and my parents are abroad for diplomatic talks. Auntie Li has already reported to the police, and I’ve also notified Xiaobei. But I still want to ask for your help; he always trusts and relies on you. If found, I think he will need you."

"Don’t panic," said Wen Shaoyuan, a soldier who should remain unflustered in the face of danger as if the collapse of Mount Tai didn’t disturb him. But at that mont, Su Mu clearly heard a quiver in his voice. He was truly afraid of losing his only son. "I’m contacting Xiaobei right now, and we’ll look together. I’ll inform you imdiately with any news."

Wen Shaoyuan pondered for a few seconds:

"Thank you. I’ll send the places he usually likes to go to your WeChat, sorry for the trouble."

After hanging up on Wen Shaoyuan, Su Mu briefed the grandma on the situation. The old lady imdiately insisted she go and help look for him. Su Mu was so frantic she forgot to dress properly, and it was the old lady who reminded her that even in haste, she shouldn’t neglect her health. Only then did Su Mu rush upstairs to grab a jacket.

eting up with Jiang Bei at the hospital, she was also in a state of desperate haste:

"It must have been that old witch who bullied Xiaoyuan. Otherwise, such a sensible child wouldn’t do such a thing."

Su Mu: "Xiaobei, now’s not the ti for this. Let’s find Shaoyuan first."

"Fine, fine," Jiang Bei tried to calm herself down. "Did my brother tell you where Xiaoyuan likes to go?"

"Yes, he sent it to on WeChat. Let’s start searching these places one by one."

"Okay."

Su Mu probably hadn’t walked so much in a single day in over a year. She and Jiang Bei searched from the east of the city to the west, from the south to the north. From noon until dusk, there was still no news from the police or the Wen Family.

After a day of running around without even a mont for food, the two were completely spent. However, neither thought of stopping. A five-year-old child had been missing in such a bustling city for a whole day. They didn’t want to say society was filled with malice, but it certainly wasn’t all kindness either. If Wen Shaoyuan had encountered that one in a million chance, no one dared to imagine what the outco might be.

When Wen Shaoyuan’s call ca through, Su Mu felt guilty at a single glance. Looking at Jiang Bei, who was still sweating despite it being November, she pressed the answer button:

"I’m sorry, Wen Shaoyuan, I still haven’t been able to find Shaoyuan."

Wen Shaoyuan’s voice ca through:

"The police just called , they’ve found Shaoyuan. You and Xiaobei don’t need to worry anymore."
