The grandmother hadn’t ntioned the topic of children for a long ti, the last ti being shortly after Su Mu had a miscarriage. Back then, Fu Shinian had blad himself entirely, showing no consideration for her feelings.

Su Mu thought that this ti he would also remain silent, but she couldn’t just ignore the grandmother’s question. She was about to use the sa excuse as last ti when Fu Shinian unexpectedly spoke up first:

"Is the grandmother eager to hold a great-grandchild?"

"I dream about it," the grandmother chuckled. "It’s just that your relationship was a bit rocky before, so I didn’t press you. But now you two seem no different from a normally married couple in love, so I wanted to ask, isn’t it ti to start planning for a child?"

Fu Shinian looked up at Su Mu, who seed to wish she could hide herself, and couldn’t help but smile as he responded:

"Okay, we’ll plan for it."

The grandmother’s eyes lit up, delighted like a child receiving candy:

"Really? You’re not lying to granny?"

"When have I ever lied to you?"

"That’s good."

The grandmother’s eyes were so narrow they were almost a sliver, and Auntie Wang was also very happy, saying that the grandmother’s dream was finally going to co true. Su Mu too smiled along, but Fu Shinian could see no trace of genuineness in her smile.

She doesn’t want to?

Midway through the al, Su Mu’s phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the display to see it was Wen Han, then excused herself and stood up to answer the call. Fu Shinian probably had quite good hearing, as he again heard the way Su Mu addressed him:

"Wen Han."

Last ti she had called him ’Mr. Wen’, but just a few days later it had beco ’Wen Han’.

Has their relationship ward up this quickly?

The grandmother shook her hand in front of him, bringing him back to reality, and seeing his distracted look, she chuckled:

"Now do you see how good Su Su is? She’s just answering a phone call and your eyes are practically glued to her."

Fu Shinian gave a slight smile:

"Once Su Mu has a child, you’d better not be lazy, grandma, because you’re expected to bring the child over to the old house to take care of."

"Don’t say that and then back out later. I’d love to do it. Don’t just think about one child; even if it’s twins, I can handle them perfectly. I worry that you and Su Mu might find it too hard by then, too attached to leave."

Fu Shinian had never imagined such a scene, but now that he thought about it, it actually seed quite warm:

"If we really can’t bear it, you could move in with us, or if not, Su Mu and I can move back here."

Sothing flickered in the grandmother’s eyes, but it then extinguished swiftly as she waved her hand:

"Young people should live their own lives, why stick around with this old lady? If you have ti, just co over for a al like today. That’s enough."

Fu Shinian smiled and didn’t speak further, knowing that eventually, once Su Mu had a child, he still had to live with his grandmother, as much as he was reluctant to face this reality. He was well aware that his grandmother was aging, and there weren’t many days left for them to be together.

Su Mu stood in front of the French window, sharing her plans to go to the Wen Family ho and help Wen Shaoyuan with his howork the next day with Wen Han, who was silent for a long ti. Thinking the signal might be poor, she was about to ask when she heard his voice, he said:

"Did Xiaobei say sothing to you?"

Su Mu hadn’t expected him to think in that direction, but it was indeed the case:

"I’m just more concerned about Shaoyuan,"

"Su Mu," Wen Han called her, "keeping you out of this is for your own good. Forgive for being blunt, but your presence might make Shaoyuan’s grandmother feel threatened. I know you’re worried about Shaoyuan and an well, but it’s really not convenient."

Since the conversation had reached this point, Su Mu couldn’t insist on much more, realizing ultimately it was a matter concerning the Wen Family.

"Alright, I understand, but if you need any help, please contact ."

Wen Han paused for a few seconds, then sincerely thanked:

"Su Mu, thank you!"

After hanging up the phone and returning to the dinner table, Su Mu noticed that Fu Shinian’s expression had worsened compared to earlier. She didn’t know what had happened, but given Auntie Wang and grandma were present, she couldn’t explicitly ask anything. She could only seek answers through eye contact, but Fu Shinian deliberately avoided her gaze after receiving her look.

This left Su Mu with a misconception, as if it was her fault.

But she had only taken a call; what had she done wrong?

After dinner, Auntie Wang went to clean up the kitchen. Su Mu helped grandma sit down in the living room, then ran to the bathroom to fetch a basin of water at a reasonable temperature:

"Grandma, let soak your feet."

When Fu Shinian turned around from the floor-to-ceiling window after finishing his call, the scene he saw was Su Mu squatting in front of the old lady, washing her feet. It seed they talked about sothing amusing; she looked up at grandma with a smile, her head bent down causing a strand of hair to fall beside her face. Grandma reached out to tuck it back.

The scene slightly distracted Fu Shinian; he seed to return to his childhood when grandpa had similarly pleased grandma, and he just stood by watching, finding it the warst and happiest mont.

Now that grandpa was no longer here, grandma’s life had grown much emptier and lonelier. Although Fu Shinian had taken great care of her, he had never actively washed her feet like grandpa and Su Mu did.

Perhaps he hadn’t noticed, or perhaps work had been too busy—he didn’t want to make too many excuses for himself. What wasn’t done wasn’t done.

But what he hadn’t done, Su Mu had done.

Just as Fu Shinian walked over, he heard grandma saying:

"Whenever your grandpa did sothing to upset , he would bring water to wash my feet. As soon as he knelt down, I would lose all my anger. But sotis, I was really furious, yet he knew how to appease ."

Su Mu, clearly interested, asked, "How did grandpa appease you?"

Grandma, with a mysterious look, replied, "By washing feet, with a box of ice cream."

The smile at the corner of Su Mu’s mouth grew wider:

"Then I can’t match grandpa, as it’s too cold for ice cream now. Hang in there grandma, I’ll buy you so when it warms up."

Noticing Fu Shinian standing nearby, the smile on Su Mu’s face slightly faded. She checked and found the water temperature had also cooled down, so she fetched a towel to wipe grandma’s feet dry. As she got up to empty the water, grandma noticed Fu Shinian standing there and said:

"Susu, don’t move; let him do it."

Su Mu didn’t move, just glanced up at Fu Shinian. It wasn’t that she thought Fu Shinian couldn’t do such a thing, but she couldn’t quite picture it, so she smiled and got up:

"Grandma, let Shinian chat with you. I’ll go just... "

Before Su Mu could finish her sentence, Fu Shinian stepped forward and took the basin from her hands:

"I’ll take care of it."
