As Su Mu entered the private room, Wen Shaoyuan and Wen Han were discussing sothing, but they stopped upon her arrival. Su Mu felt it was not the right ti for her to appear, yet leaving would be even more awkward. She couldn’t help but sigh internally, thinking that the embarrassnts she had faced that day almost added up to a whole year’s worth.

Wen Han looked at her:

"Shaoyuan was saying he didn’t expect you to have a boyfriend."

In fact, Wen Han had never asked Jiang Bei about whether Su Mu was single, partly because he felt there was no need and partly because he didn’t care, but after taking her ho yesterday and learning she lived at Bishui Yuntian, Wen Han knew she was not alone.

Still, he was sowhat puzzled. Why would soone from such a good family background need to take on such hard work? However, since it concerned privacy and she showed no laxness in her work, it was not his place to ask. Therefore, when Ji Nanfeng ntioned ’friend’s fiancée’, Wen Han was not at all surprised.

On the other hand, Wen Shaoyuan seed sowhat dejected.

As a father, he was sowhat aware of his son’s thoughts, yet what he hadn’t anticipated was that his own lifelong matters had fallen to the point of concern to his five-year-old son.

But how could he explain that he no longer had the desire to remarry?

With a faint smile, Su Mu took a seat next to Wen Shaoyuan. It seed that Wen Shaoyuan had sothing to ask her, but after looking tiredly at Wen Han, he gave up and suppressed all his questions. Su Mu guessed what he might want to ask, but those were personal matters, and she did not wish to discuss them further.

After lunch, Su Mu declined Wen Han’s offer to drive her back, and he didn’t insist. He left with Shaoyuan, and Su Mu stood watching them go before checking her phone. Fu Shinian hadn’t replied to her ssage.

Though it was expected, it was inevitably disappointing.

Su Mu didn’t head straight back to Bishui Yuntian but instead went to a nearby supermarket. She had previously said she wanted to cook dinner for Fu Shinian herself, but that got thwarted due to Su Shiyue drugging her. Since Wen Han would be ho that evening and she didn’t need to go to the Wen Family’s place, she thought of cooking for him tonight.

If he would return, that is.

Su Mu didn’t cook often, but that didn’t an she couldn’t— in fact, she was quite skilled at it. She had slowly learned to cook as a child when her parents were busy at work, but married life hadn’t offered much opportunity for her to show her culinary skills.

Having picked out a lot of fresh ingredients, Su Mu, deeply engrossed in thinking about what to cook for the evening, didn’t notice two people who had been following her for so ti, whispering stealthily to each other:

"Big Brother, this chick hasn’t paid us for two months. She even changed her phone number. We thought she might be dead, but now I see she’s well and just ca out of a fancy restaurant. It looks like she’s trying to dodge her debt."

"Keep your voice down," the older one glared at him. "I wasn’t sure it was her before, but now that I am, she definitely can’t get away from paying our debt. We’re in a supermarket, it’s too crowded to confront her. We’ll wait until she leaves; we can’t let her off this easily."

"I’ll listen to you, Big Brother."

The supermarket Su Mu chose was quite far from Bishui Yuntian, so she didn’t opt for a taxi. Instead, she called Auntie Lin for a car pickup. As she finished paying, driver Little Chen appeared just in ti at the supermarket entrance. He quickly walked over and took the groceries from her hands:

"Madam, let ."

Su Mu handed over the things to him and followed him out of the supermarket. The car was parked on the road right in front of the supermarket, just a few steps away.

The people behind her were anxious as they saw Su Mu about to get into the car:

"Big Brother, she’s going to leave soon. Aren’t we going over there?"

"Didn’t you see there’s soone with her? We won’t gain any advantage by going over."

The younger brother thought about it and realized that was true, but then he seed to sense sothing amiss: "Big Brother, we’re not robbing or killing anyone, and besides, we are the creditors. Is there a need to be so sneaky?"

At this, the older brother also paused, perhaps disoriented from being pursued for debts recently. He slapped his thigh:

"Right, I have nothing to fear from her, let’s go, we need to collect the money."

But it was a step too late. Su Mu had already gotten into the car, and even the driver had stored the groceries in the trunk and had started the engine.

He watched helplessly as the creditor disappeared from sight, his big brother so angry his teeth itched.

"Big Brother, should we chase her? It was so hard to catch her, and if we let her escape again, where will we find her next ti? We don’t even know where her paralyzed mother is," one of them said.

Gritting his teeth, the big brother said, "Chase!"

Auntie Lin, seeing the driver return with two big bags of groceries, knew Su Mu was going to cook tonight and smiled faintly:

"Looks like the chef is getting a break today, the lady is going to cook herself."

Su Mu smiled:

"I’m going upstairs to change clothes."

"Alright, I’ll help you out in a bit."

After changing into ho clothes back in her room, Su Mu thought for a mont and decided to give Fu Shinian a call. It took a long ti for the call to be answered, and the background was very quiet. Su Mu almost instantly guessed what Fu Shinian was doing:

"Are you in a eting?"

"Hmm."

"Sorry, I didn’t know. I just wanted to ask if you’ll co back for dinner? I’m cooking."

"Hmm."

Su Mu laughed, "Okay, then you busy yourself, I’ll wait for you to co back."

What Su Mu hadn’t anticipated was that Fu Shinian would not only return but also bring along Qiao Yu and Ji Nanfeng.

Actually, it wasn’t his intention. Fu Shinian had promised Su Mu, and there wasn’t any reason to break that promise. So when Ji Nanfeng, who seed to prefer spending every bit of his 24 hours at the bureau, called to invite him, he flatly refused without a second thought, which irked Ji Nanfeng:

"You have plans tonight? No way, I’m coming with you. I’m about to go stir crazy staying in all day every day."

Fu Shinian: "You’ll die of exhaustion, definitely not from being cooped up."

Ji Nanfeng: "...Regardless of how I die, don’t reject . I promise I won’t bring any girls today."

"Not going."

"Are you abandoning ?"

Fu Shinian, worn down by his persistence, said:

"I’m going ho. Su Mu called saying she’s cooking tonight, and I promised her."

Ji Nanfeng: "I’m going too."

Fu Shinian: "..."

So Ji Nanfeng ca along, and he also invited Qiao Yu. Qiao Yu, upon hearing this, found no reason to refuse at all - he hadn’t yet tasted Su Mu’s cooking. So, as soon as his work was done, he hurried over.

Although Su Mu was surprised by their arrival, she wasn’t stressed since she had prepared plenty of dishes. With so ti left before dinner, she asked Fu Shinian to take them to the tearoom to sit for a while. Fu Shinian responded faintly, went upstairs to change, and then headed straight for the tearoom, where Ji Nanfeng was vividly recounting his encounter with Wen Han at noon to Qiao Yu.
