Su Mu reached out to touch Wen Shaoyuan’s forehead and realized he no longer had a fever. Then, she noticed that both Wen Shaoyuan and Wen Han were dressed in formal attire, seemingly ready to go out. She couldn’t help feeling a bit rude for not having called in advance.

"Are you going out?"

Wen Han glanced at Wen Shaoyuan before saying,

"I have a eting at the city bureau later, and since Shaoyuan had a fever last night, I didn’t let him go to school today. He wants to co with ."

Su Mu nodded:

"Then I won’t delay you. You should go now. I’ll co over again in the afternoon."

"Sister Su," Wen Shaoyuan tugged gently at her sleeve. "If you’re free, you could co with us. Anyway, dad will be in a eting and I’ll just be playing by myself in the car. Why don’t I bring my textbooks so you can help catch up on my lessons?"

Wen Han frowned slightly:

"Shaoyuan, we can’t impose on the teacher’s ti."

Wen Shaoyuan, upon hearing this, didn’t say anything more, but the look in his eyes still brimd with hope. That clear and bright gaze made Su Mu feel as if her refusal would be a cri. Besides, he had just had a fever the night before, and if Wen Han left him alone in the car during the eting, Su Mu wouldn’t be at ease.

She looked at Wen Han:

"If it’s not too much trouble, I can accompany Shaoyuan. We could get today’s lessons done early, and I could finish work earlier in the afternoon."

Wen Han had wanted to say it would be too much trouble, but as he was about to speak, he inexplicably rembered the long night road Su Mu had walked ho alone last night, and he didn’t object any further:

"Shaoyuan, go upstairs and get your books."

"Okay!"

The zest in his voice made Wen Han feel like he had made the right decision.

He asked Su Mu to sit down in the living room and suddenly rembered sothing:

"Wait for a mont. I’ll go upstairs and get the tutoring fee for the past two weeks for you."

"No rush. It’s the sa at the end of the month."

Wen Han looked at Su Mu: "I’m not sure if I will have a holiday to co back in half a month’s ti."

So Su Mu didn’t say anything more.

In the room, while Wen Han was taking money out of the bedside drawer, Wen Shaoyuan, who was prepared to go downstairs with his books, caught sight of his dad and stopped. He politely knocked on the door:

"Dad, may I co in?"

Wen Han looked at him and smiled slightly, "Co in."

With his backpack on, Wen Shaoyuan approached Wen Han, who was counting money, and said,

"Dad, are you settling the tutoring fee with Sister Su?"

"Hmm."

Wen Han humd in affirmation, got the money ready to go downstairs, but Wen Shaoyuan grabbed his hand. He looked down at the little person beside him:

"What is it?"

"Sister Su is a girl, carrying that much money might not be very safe, right?"

Wen Han was taken aback.

"And most places don’t need cash for transactions anymore. Giving Sister Su all this money, she would have to make a trip to the bank, which would be a bother."

This was sothing Wen Han hadn’t thought of. Having spent a lot of ti in the military, where there weren’t many places to spend money and cash was more common, he had instinctively thought of this way but hadn’t considered whether it was convenient for Su Mu.

Wen Han patted his son’s shoulder:

"You’re right. I’ll ask Teacher Su for her card number later and transfer it to her."

"Why go to all that trouble? Just add her on WeChat and transfer the money directly."

Wen Han: "..."

He felt like he had understood sothing.

As the elder and the younger descended the stairs, Su Mu got up from the sofa. She couldn’t tell if it was her imagination, but she always felt that Wen Han seed sowhat restrained. However, she didn’t speculate much, thinking perhaps she was just overthinking.

It wasn’t until Wen Han took out his phone and said:

"Su Mu, Shaoyuan ntioned it’s not convenient to carry cash, so I transferred the funds directly. Could I add you on WeChat for convenience?"

Caught off guard, Su Mu then took out her phone:

"Of course, adding WeChat will make it easier to communicate about Shaoyuan’s matters in the future."

Wen Shaoyuan, standing to the side and seeing them add each other on WeChat, grinned as if he had accomplished sothing incredible.

Su Mu’s phone chid, and Wen Han said:

"I’ve already transferred the fee. Can you check?"

Su Mu glanced at the transfer information in the WeChat chat:

"Isn’t this too much?"

Based on a rate of 500 per hour for four hours a day, she worked for 14 days, which should amount to 28,000, but the transfer showed 40,000 yuan.

Wen Han had already put away his phone:

"That’s correct."

Su Mu thought he was too careless, giving so much extra without checking. Even if he was wealthy, he shouldn’t be so reckless, so she accepted the money and returned 12,000 yuan.

"I’ve returned the extra money. Please check it."

"Okay."

Although he said that, she didn’t see him take his phone out again until she was seated in Wen Han’s car.

It wasn’t until she reached the police station that Su Mu found out it wasn’t as Wen Shaoyuan had said—he was to stay alone in the car. There was a lounge where they could comfortably wait. Wen Shaoyuan probably feared that Su Mu would think he was deceiving her, so he explained:

"The last ti I was here, I indeed stayed in the car."

Wen Han looked at his son, uncertain whether to expose his lie. He clearly rembered the last ti he took him to the police station; he was just picking up so docunts. From stepping out of the car to starting it up again, it had taken less than ten minutes. Where else could his son want to go if not staying in the car?

Forget it.

Wen Han decided to save his child’s face, after all, he was his own flesh and blood.

The eting that Wen Han attended only ended close to noon, and by that ti, Wen Shaoyuan was so hungry he had eaten all the biscuits in Su Mu’s bag. Finally seeing Wen Han return, he instantly perked up:

"Dad, are you finished? Can we go eat now?"

Wen Han patted his cheerful face and nodded lightly:

"Yes, I’ll take you to eat now."

When they exited the lounge, they bumped into several people in their fifties with very stern appearances. Before Su Mu’s nerves could kick in, they switched to a tender deanor; one of them bent down and scooped Wen Shaoyuan into his arms:

"You’ve grown taller again. Next ti you co, Grandpa Sun won’t be able to carry you."

Wen Shaoyuan spoke sweetly:

"Then I’ll wait until I grow up to give Grandpa Sun a hug."

"Good!" Grandpa Sun was delighted, looking at Wen Han, "You’ve raised the boy well. He’s polite, filial, and lovable."

Wen Han smiled slightly:

"He’s also quite mischievous."

"You were mischievous too when you were little. There wasn’t a single office in the precinct you hadn’t played in. Shaoyuan is much more obedient than you."

Wen Han just smiled and didn’t say anything more, but a person behind Grandpa Sun cast his gaze onto Su Mu, his look friendly yet tinged with a bit of teasing:

"Wen Han, who is this...?"
