After a busy night, Su Mu returned to Gui Ning Residence close to 3 o’clock in the morning. Having called ahead, the guest room was already prepared. She led Jiang Bei upstairs and suddenly turned around to look at Fu Shinian as they reached the staircase.
Fu Shinian noticed Su Mu’s gaze, paused his drinking, and smiled:
"I know what you want to say, and I agree."
Su Mu smiled faintly: "Then I’ll head up now."
"Get so rest early, don’t go to the studio tomorrow."
"I know."
Even if not for Jiang Bei’s sake, she hardly slept all night, so Fu Shinian would definitely not agree to let her go tomorrow. As for the cryptic conversation they just had, it was nothing more than Su Mu’s desire to stay with Jiang Bei in the guest room for the night, which Fu Shinian had anticipated long ago. So when Su Mu looked his way, he understood imdiately and had no objections.
Jiang Bei is Su Mu’s best friend, and naturally, she should be there for her in tis like these. He believes that if Su Mu were in trouble today, Jiang Bei would also spare no effort to help.
It’s just a pity for him, having toiled most of the night and now to sleep alone in the empty room. Even Qiqi went to keep Wen Shaoyuan company. This was the first ti Fu Shinian felt that having Qiqi sleep between them was actually quite pleasant.
Tian the housekeeper brought new toiletries to Su Mu, who received them:
"You’ve worked hard today, go get so rest."
"Oh Mrs., you’re too polite, it’s all part of my duties. If there’s anything, just call on the intercom."
"Okay."
Su Mu returned to the room, where Jiang Bei was sitting on the sofa, lost in thought. Su Mu put down the items and walked over: "Let’s take a bath together, it’ll be relaxing."
Jiang Bei looked at Su Mu:
"Are you going to stay with here?"
"You’re not trying to shoo away, are you?"
Jiang Bei smiled:
"No, I’m just worried Fu Shinian might barge in during the middle of the night demanding company."
"He wouldn’t dare."
Jiang Bei, beholding the happiness on Su Mu’s face, smiled gently. Actually, this outco was quite good. Among the two of them, eventually, one was going to find the happiness they deserved. If only one could have such an ending, she would rather it be Su Mu.
The two hadn’t been this close for a long ti. Fortunately, the massage bathtub was large enough, so even with both of them lying down, it didn’t feel cramped. However, considering Jiang Bei was pregnant, Su Mu didn’t set the water too hot but turned the air conditioning to maximum to ensure neither of them would catch a chill.
Neither felt sleepy, with too much having happened. Jiang Bei, being involved, still felt a chill down her spine at the thought of those monts, and even though Su Mu didn’t participate, Fu Shinian had only given her an overview, and she could still empathize with Jiang Bei’s isolation and helplessness.
At this mont, holding Jiang Bei’s hand tightly:
"Xiaobei, just honestly stay here. No one is allowed in. The place is big enough, and you don’t have to worry about feeling trapped. Besides, the old lady likes you a lot, not to ntion Qiqi. Wen Shaoyuan also moved in yesterday, so it’s lively here with people who like you and whom you like."
Jiang Bei lay in the bathtub, staring at the ceiling in a daze, smiled softly at Su Mu’s words:
"Susu, seeing how well you’re living now, I’m really happy."
"You will be too. Didn’t I also go through a long period of unhappiness? Now it’s all passed, and I’m fine, and so will you be. This is just a trial from the heavens, but it will end eventually."
"You will, but I won’t."
Su Mu frowned slightly, feeling heartache and worry over Jiang Bei’s state of mind.
"We are different. You indeed had a tough ti before, but you loved Fu Shinian. So after all those events, you could return to his side, forgive so much. Love is a strength, one you’ve always had, but I don’t. My feelings for Rong Shen are fear and dread, and for Ji Nanfeng it’s only a transactional affection. Neither have truly entered my heart, so I can’t forgive or forget their hurt, and naturally, I can’t expect a happy ending."
"Isn’t there more to the world than just those two n? Without them, can’t we et soone else? I believe there’s soone out there who will appear at just the right ti, and I have faith you’ll et them. But if you can’t put an end to all this now, you won’t have the chance to find them."
Jiang Bei turned to face Su Mu:
"Do you want to get a divorce?"
"Yes, seeing how hard life has been for you, I naturally hope you’ll get a divorce. If I were you, you would have berated countless tis by now, maybe even nearing a fallout, right?" Su Mu smiled faintly: "But in the end, I am not you, and you don’t really share your inner thoughts with others. Therefore, I don’t know what you really think. You said you wouldn’t divorce because of Rong Shen, but what if Rong Shen’s issue is resolved? Would you still make the sa choice?"
"I would." Jiang Bei’s answer didn’t hesitate: "I’ll get a divorce. There was never much affection between Ji Nanfeng and , and to him, I was just an obsession he pursued with bitterness for two years without success. Now that he’s gotten what he desired, there’s nothing to make him regretful anymore, and it’s doubtful he’d want to continue with anyway, especially since I can’t contribute to this marriage. But ultimately, he did help under those circumstances, and even though everything was made clear, this near two-year marriage still ans I owe him."
"Owe?" Su Mu thought about their interaction patterns: "I don’t think so."
Jiang Bei smiled slightly:
"At the beginning of our marriage, he truly didn’t do anything wrong by , instead trying every way to make happy. But I just couldn’t engage, which led to him giving up gradually and starting to see other won again. I understand him."
"That’s no excuse."
"It is an excuse because at the beginning of the marriage, I also didn’t ask Ji Nanfeng to stay celibate for ."
Su Mu looked at Jiang Bei:
"Why put yourself through this?"
Whether married or not, the suffering is the sa, so why make such a choice in the first place? But Su Mu understood Jiang Bei, who at that ti might have seen it as a way out, thinking she could engage in marriage, only to end up with such an outco.
"Yeah, why put myself through this? To avoid one man, I ended up dragging another into this vortex. Given the chance to choose again, I definitely wouldn’t pick this path."
"It’s not too late now."
"Yes." Jiang Bei smiled faintly: "So, I’ve decided to divorce."
