Although Ji Nanfeng found Fu Shinian’s words irritating, they were based on reality, so he couldn’t refute them. His expression beca increasingly grave, seemingly having no solution himself, which amused Fu Shinian as he watched:

"Why put yourself through this? If you knew from the start that you wouldn’t be able to change your mother’s mind, why did you bring Jiang Bei into your life? Now that she has taken a liking to the Qi Family’s daughter and is trying everything to set you two up, Jiang Bei will find out sooner or later. I wonder how long you can keep this secret."

"Are you here to enjoy watching my troubles today?"

"I don’t have the ti, nor do I care to ddle in your affairs." Fu Shinian looked at Ji Nanfeng: "I just feel that as your friend, I need to remind you—it’s better to resolve things sooner rather than later. If the matter blows up and reaches Jiang Bei, you won’t have good days ahead. Seeing her complexion now, it’s obvious you don’t want to divorce. But what you want isn’t enough; so issues require you to step forward. If you can’t reconcile things, between Jiang Bei and your mother, you’ll have to give up one of them."

Ji Nanfeng remained silent for a while before saying lightly:

"I know."

Fu Shinian understood Ji Nanfeng well enough to detect the perfunctory tone in his voice, but he didn’t press on; after all, what he ntioned was true. He had no interest in the sses of the Ji family. If not for Jiang Bei’s relationship with Su Mu, perhaps he wouldn’t even bother asking.

Though he and Ji Nanfeng were friends for many years, when it involved the older generation, he felt it wasn’t his place as the younger to interfere.

Su Mu and Fu Shinian stayed in Jiang Bei’s apartnt until 4 o’clock before leaving, as they had to pick up Qiqi from kindergarten at 4:30. This seed to be the first ti Jiang Bei reluctantly showed her emotions to Su Mu, almost as if they wouldn’t et again after this separation.

Perhaps infected by Jiang Bei’s sentintality, Su Mu also felt a touch of sadness until she was seated in the car and still sowhat downcast. Fu Shinian glanced at her and smiled faintly, then reached out to hold her hand, to which Su Mu exclaid:

"Focus on driving."

"It won’t distract ." Fu Shinian smiled. "I wouldn’t joke with your life."

Reassured, Su Mu smiled and initiated a conversation:

"Xiaobei looked quite well, and I should be happy about it, but for so reason, I’m still worried. I feel like she’s keeping a lot from . Even though she’s always been secretive, this is a critical ti, and I think it would be good if I could help share her burdens. But that seems a little difficult."

"Everyone has different personalities. Jiang Bei seems blustery and careless, but her thoughts are more delicate than anyone’s. There’s nothing we can do with such a reticent person." Fu Shinian steered the wheel, turning onto another road: "However, you could have a talk with her and invite her to stay for a while at Gui Ning Residence. The Residence is far from the city center, with excellent conditions and scenery, and not to ntion Qiqi is there. It might not completely brighten up her mood, but at least it could help her to relax a bit."

Su Mu hadn’t expected Fu Shinian to make such a suggestion and smiled faintly:

"I always thought you and Jiang Bei could never get along in this lifeti."

"That won’t be the case anymore. Since she’s your best friend, I should of course show her respect. This way, if I ever make a mistake, she might put in a good word for ."

Looking at Fu Shinian, Su Mu raised an eyebrow slightly:

"What mistake would you make?"

Fu Shinian gave her a glance, still smiling:

"You don’t need to fish for information. I won’t make any fundantal mistakes. At most, I’ll want you too often at night, like how you were upset this morning; that’s my limit. Besides that, I don’t think there’s anything that can irritate you."

Su Mu felt slightly embarrassed:

"Why would I tell Jiang Bei about these things?"

"Is that so? Then I don’t have any reason to curry favor with her. It seems our relationship with her should just take its natural course."

Su Mu laughed and didn’t respond anymore, knowing he was just trying to cheer her up. However, inviting Jiang Bei to stay at their place was an idea she took to heart. Maybe when she got back, she could suggest it to Jiang Bei. Jiang Bei might agree, considering how reluctant she was to part from Su Mu today and how much she missed Qiqi, right?

When they arrived at the school gate, Fu Shinian received an unexpected call, and Su Mu ended up going ahead to pick up Qiqi. Watching Su Mu exit the car and walk away, Fu Shinian’s gaze lingered on her, a gentle smile on his face. The life he wished for was now a reality—having her, having their child.

It had been a long while since Su Mu visited the school due to her business trips, so she didn’t recognize the teacher standing at the door of Qiqi’s class and even wondered if she had gone the wrong way. However, Qiqi noticed her first and ca running out, backpack bouncing, to give her a tight hug:

"Mumu, I just knew you’d co to pick up. I guessed right."

Su Mu smiled, and upon raising her eyes, she t the gaze of the teacher—a new face to her. Su Mu greeted:

"Hello, I’m Su Yimo’s mom. I have been away on a business trip for a long ti and haven’t been able to co myself. Are you a new teacher here?"

The teacher responded politely with a smile:

"Hello, my na is Yu Xin. I’m the temporary substitute teacher for this class. The previous teacher, Ms. Wang, injured her ankle and temporarily can’t teach, so I’ve been in charge recently. If you notice anything unsatisfactory, please feel free to contact ."

After that, she handed Su Mu her business card. Su Mu accepted the card with both hands, saw the na on it, and smiled slightly:

"Thank you so much; I’ll leave Su Yimo in your care."

"It’s my responsibility; you’re welco."

As more parents arrived, Su Mu didn’t linger any longer. After saying goodbye to the teacher with Qiqi, they left. It was only when they reached the stairwell that Su Mu inexplicably stopped and looked back at Yu Xin. She couldn’t shake this feeling; oddly, she sensed she had t this person before.

A vague sense of familiarity lingered, but after searching through all her mories, she found no trace of this person. Perhaps Yu Xin just had one of those common faces.

Noticing Su Mu’s distraction, Qiqi gently tugged at her fingers:

"Mumu, what’s wrong? What are you thinking about?"

Su Mu turned back, shaking her head slightly: "Nothing, I was just daydreaming. It’s all right now, let’s go. Daddy is waiting for us outside."

"Okay!"

As Su Mu and Qiqi disappeared around the corner of the stairs, Yu Xin, who had been patiently communicating with a parent, suddenly looked in that direction, her gaze turning cold.
