"Yes, handso, do you know my dad?"
"I do." Rong Shen said, "Your dad and I are pretty good friends."
"Then how co I’ve never seen you before? Fu Shinian has been pretty sneaky, hiding such a good-looking friend from ." Qiqi finished, looking dissatisfied at Jiang Bei, "Xiaobei Mommy, do you know this handso guy too? Why haven’t you introduced him to ?"
Hearing Qiqi refer to Jiang Bei, Rong Shen slightly raised his eyebrows:
"What did you call her?"
"Xiaobei Mommy," Qiqi explained, "She’s my godmother."
Rong Shen smiled faintly:
"Then from now on, you can call Daddy Rong."
Jiang Bei frowned:
"Stop talking nonsense."
"I’m not spouting nonsense." Rong Shen, without even looking at Jiang Bei, smiled as he said to Qiqi, "Next ti I see Fu Shinian, I’ll tell him I want to consider his daughter as my goddaughter."
Even though Rong Shen said this, he wasn’t entirely sure he could take on Qiqi as his goddaughter. He had t Fu Shinian a few tis, and the affection he showed for his daughter in every word suggested that he would give away everything for her. Rong Shen felt it was improbable that Fu Shinian would let him take advantage of this for nothing.
Fortunately, Jiang Bei couldn’t bother to argue about such tasteless and uninteresting topics, so she directly said:
"You must have so business here. Qiqi and I won’t disturb you; you’d better go quickly."
Only then did Rong Shen focus his attention on Jiang Bei’s face, saying:
"Whether I have business to attend to or not, that’s for to decide. There was sothing before, but not anymore. Now, I believe there’s nothing more important than having lunch with two beautiful ladies."
Jiang Bei really wanted to leave, but Rong Shen completely denied her the chance, quickly calling over the waiter to change the room.
Perhaps it was because Qiqi was present that Rong Shen didn’t say anything excessive throughout the al. Instead, he kept discussing topics with Qiqi that, in Jiang Bei’s view, seed quite childlike. This was a side of Rong Shen Jiang Bei had never seen before. Despite all the blood on his hands, he could still be so tender and innocent when facing a child.
The restaurant had an area where children could play. Qiqi, having eaten her fill, wanted to go play. Jiang Bei hadn’t spoken yet when Rong Shen had already nodded in agreent, summoning a bodyguard who accompanied him at all tis to follow Qiqi:
"Take good care of her, and if there’s any problem, don’t bother coming back."
"Yes, Brother Shen."
Once Qiqi left, Jiang Bei started feeling restless. The façade that Rong Shen and Qiqi had built up ca crashing down in an instant, and Jiang Bei lost her appetite too. She put down her chopsticks and looked at Rong Shen:
"Do you have sothing to say to ?"
Rong Shen remained silent, rely taking out a cigarette from his pocket. Then, seemingly reconsidering, he rely placed the cigarette on the table without lighting it. His gaze slowly fell upon the slight bulge in Jiang Bei’s stomach and he asked:
"How many months along?"
"It’s none of your business."
Rong Shen tugged at the corner of his mouth, "You probably don’t want to stay here with . I won’t force you. If you want to leave, you can go now. I’m free this afternoon. I’ll look after Qiqi and send her to Fu Shinian later in the evening."
"How do I know you’re not planning to use Qiqi to threaten ?"
"Pregnancy brain really isn’t a lie." Rong Shen casually smiled at Jiang Bei, "Leaving aside the relationship between and Fu Shinian, even if there were none, do you think I would stoop so low as to use a child to threaten you?"
"You’ve done that before. I suppose Mr. Rong hasn’t forgotten what he did just recently?"
Rong Shen watched her, squinting slightly— a dangerous sign, as he said:
"Are you being ungrateful? Why would I trouble myself with a pregnant woman and a child? Do I need to remind you?"
"That’s my business!" Jiang Bei shouted out of patience, "What does it have to do with you?"
Jiang Bei’s sudden outburst didn’t cause any reaction in Rong Shen. He just kept looking at her, a familiar sensation suddenly erging. Jiang Bei, over a year ago, had the sa deanor when she was around him— like a firecracker, ready to be ignited at any mont.
Rong Shen’s silence made Jiang Bei feel like she was hitting cotton. She closed her eyes, conceding:
"Rong Shen, what exactly do you want?"
Rong Shen let out a light chuckle, not answering imdiately. He licked his lips, revealing a hint of a smile, then stood up and walked over to Jiang Bei to sit down in front of her. Amidst Jiang Bei’s defensive posture, he extended a hand to gently touch her belly. Jiang Bei, as if shocked by electricity, instinctively tried to get up, but was grabbed by Rong Shen and pulled into his embrace, seated on his lap.
For the first ti since they separated, they were this close. He said:
"What’s there to be afraid of? I’m not going to harm the child in your belly."
The words sounded like a promise, yet to Jiang Bei, they caused an involuntary shiver, so much so that she forgot to get up from his lap. Rong Shen, noticing this, let out a light chuckle:
"You’ve seen cruelties far worse than this. How long has it been since you left ? Have you already forgotten?"
"Those words you said to were not eaten by a dog, were they?"
Rong Shen couldn’t help but laugh:
"Yes, I said I would let you go, but what if I say I regret it now? What can you do to ? Don’t use Ji Nanfeng to scare ; I never took him seriously before, and even less so now."
Rong Shen’s ’regret’ made Jiang Bei shiver uncontrollably, unable to hold back any longer. Even her stomach began to churn. She struggled to endure, tried to suppress it, but couldn’t manage at all. Seeing Rong Shen’s face, recalling all the things he’d done before, she felt even more repulsion.
Pushing Rong Shen away, Jiang Bei rushed to the nearby restroom and vomited everything she had eaten earlier until she was empty. Rong Shen didn’t bother to help, just standing leisurely at the entrance of the restroom, coldly watching Jiang Bei’s distress as he said:
"This ti, it wasn’t who troubled you. If you were happily living with Ji Nanfeng, I wouldn’t be bothered about soone else’s wife. I do have so extre tastes, but you know, not to that extent. It was you who announced your marital status to the public, informing how poorly you were living. I, Rong Shen, am always generous to won. Knowing my forr woman is living poorly, do you think I would stand idly by?"
Jiang Bei didn’t get up, nor did she turn around. Her voice was hoarse from the vomiting as she said:
"Yet I’m still Ji Nanfeng’s wife right now. I’m carrying his child, and I never thought about getting a divorce."
"For now you are, but it won’t be long before that’s no longer the case. As for the child, whether you want to give it to the Ji Family or raise it yourself, I’ll listen to you." Rong Shen smiled, "I don’t mind you having been married, been to another man’s bed, carried another man’s child. I’m not clean either; I’ve had countless won before you. What I care about is not the process, but the outco."
