Su Mu hung up the phone and couldn’t calm down for a long ti. All she could think about was Fu Shinian’s last words on the call; he said he had had enough and couldn’t tolerate it anymore, nor would he just stand by and watch her appearing by Wen Han’s side anymore.
So, what would he do?
Su Mu didn’t know, but what she was certain of was that Fu Shinian was a man of his word.
Wen Shaoyuan was still unaware of Wen Songyan’s hospitalization, and both Wen Han and Zhou Yaxian had decided to keep it from him for now. After all, it wasn’t beneficial for a child to know about such things. Su Mu respected their decision, which made her less able to visit the hospital since she also had to care for two children and couldn’t just leave them alone at ho. She only ntioned going to the hospital this evening in passing while talking to Fu Shinian.
With children at ho, she couldn’t go.
Having called Jiang Bei and learned that she was planning to visit Wen Songyan at the hospital that night, Su Mu asked her to swing by beforehand and bring so dinner she had cooked. Jiang Bei agreed and they set a ti. Su Mu checked the clock and then busied herself in the kitchen for the next hour. By the ti she was nearly done, the doorbell rang; it was Jiang Bei.
Although they talked on the phone every day, it had been several days since Su Mu last saw Jiang Bei. She looked quite pale, though she had lost a lot of weight, causing Su Mu to frown with concern before Jiang Bei stopped her by saying,
"I know what you’re about to say, but it’s not because of what’s happening between and Ji Nanfeng—it’s this baby who’s been giving a tough ti, making throw up nurous tis a day. I can hardly keep anything down."
As Su Mu and Jiang Bei sat down on the living room couch, Su Mu noticed Jiang Bei’s slightly protruding belly:
"Reacting that strongly?"
"Yes, I think my dream of having a daughter might just be shattered. What daughter troubles her mother this much? It must be a creditor reincarnated."
Su Mu couldn’t help but laugh, reminded of the ti when she was pregnant with Qiqi. Just as Jiang Bei described, her pregnancy from start to finish had been incredibly quiet, without vomiting even once. Jiang Bei remarked that Qiqi must have known Su Mu was alone, without anyone to take care of her, even keeping quiet inside while Su Mu followed her teacher to study photography.
Su Mu felt the sa way and was truly grateful to Qiqi for being so considerate.
"A son can be wonderful, too."
Jiang Bei reluctantly nodded:
"The only consolation is that we could beco family by marriage."
Su Mu smiled and was about to say sothing when Wen Shaoyuan and Qiqi erged from the small room. Qiqi ran over joyfully but stopped short near Jiang Bei and carefully hugged her:
"Xiaobei’s mom, I’ve missed you so much."
Jiang Bei hugged Qiqi tightly and kissed her:
"I missed you too, my little darling."
Contrasting with Qiqi’s affection, Wen Shaoyuan appeared quite indifferent, standing at a distance and watching with a lukewarm smile:
"What were you and Xiaobei’s aunt just talking about?"
Jiang Bei looked at him, and despite her slow reactions due to the pregnancy, she smiled understandingly:
"Oh? My son couldn’t be Qiqi’s husband? The baby I’m carrying might turn out even handsor than you. When the ti cos, Qiqi won’t spare you a glance. Who knows, she might fall head over heels for my son and leave you."
Worried, Qiqi glanced at Wen Shaoyuan and swore:
"Brother Shaoyuan, Qiqi will always like you."
Wen Shaoyuan smiled softly, acknowledging her with a knowing look: "I know."
Seeing this, Jiang Bei shivered, while Su Mu, now used to their banter, watched them spar with amusent. Jiang Bei was always competitive, especially against Wen Shaoyuan, wanting always to co out on top—a dynamic that had existed for many years and hadn’t diminished even as Wen Shaoyuan grew older.
Pulling Qiqi into her arms, Jiang Bei began to cry pitifully:
"Qiqi, don’t you like Xiaobei’s mom anymore? How could you possibly only like Wen Shaoyuan? Don’t you like the baby in my belly? I decided to have this baby to find you an even better husband than Wen Shaoyuan. If this is how you feel, I won’t have the baby."
Unable to listen anymore, Su Mu lightly chided Jiang Bei: "Aren’t you afraid of jinxing yourself, talking like that?"
Jiang Bei turned to Su Mu: "When did you start sounding like my mom?"
Su Mu remained silent.
Qiqi stared deeply at Jiang Bei: "Xiaobei’s mom, I will like the baby brother too, and I’ll definitely love him a lot. But I only want to marry Brother Shaoyuan. I don’t want to marry anyone else. I promise I’ll be nice to my baby brother forever. Is that okay?"
Jiang Bei, originally just teasing Wen Shaoyuan, didn’t expect to truly bring out Qiqi’s lancholy, and felt instantly remorseful, spending a good while consoling her. Wen Shaoyuan, throughout the incident, didn’t say a word to comfort Qiqi, rely watching calmly—a clear sign that instigated trouble had to be resolved by the instigator.
Having cald the little princess, Jiang Bei decided not to provoke the young ones anymore, especially since she had never had much success in front of Wen Shaoyuan even years ago. Now that he had his own cherished person to protect, he was less likely than ever to let her off the hook easily. Jiang Bei thought it best not to aggravate herself further.
Su Mu gave a slight smile:
"I’m almost ready. I’ll go to the kitchen to get it for you."
Jiang Bei also stood up:
"I’ll co with you."
In the kitchen, as Su Mu put the prepared food into the thermal bags, Jiang Bei watched her ticulous actions and smiled slightly:
"You really didn’t need to go through so much trouble. Wen Family has everything, and soone else would have brought these things."
"I know, but since I can’t help more because of the kids, I wanted to do sothing." Su Mu glanced at Jiang Bei. "I never asked about your situation. Does it an that unless I ask, you wouldn’t talk about it on your own?"
Jiang Bei paused briefly:
"I don’t have much to say. I’ve told you everything there is to tell."
"And what about Ji Nanfeng? Surely he can’t just let that woman carry the baby to term?"
Discussing this, Jiang Bei fell silent for a few seconds, seemingly at odds with herself. Su Mu waited quietly:
"I don’t know. Ji Nanfeng’s intention is to deal with it himself without bothering . I know he intends not to let the baby be born, but I’m a doctor—I’ve spent my life saving people. The thought of soone dying because of , I just can’t accept it. Moreover, the baby’s already seven months along. Isn’t abortion at this stage too cruel?"
