Wen Song Yan’s condition had been largely diagnosed in the ambulance—a cerebral hemorrhage. But his situation was particularly perilous because the bleeding was in the cerebellum, pressing against the brainstem. Thus, he was rushed to the operating room as soon as he arrived at the hospital. The surgery had been underway for over three hours now, yet there was still no news.
After briefly explaining the situation to Su Mu, not knowing what comforting words to say, Su Mu felt at a loss. Having gone through a similar pain herself, she knew that nothing she said would be of any help to the family involved at the mont. All she could do was stay by their side.
Fortunately, an hour later, Wen Song Yan was wheeled out of the OR. The doctor declared the operation relatively successful but said that what condition he might recover to was up to fate. Wen Han knew that saving Wen Song Yan’s life in such a situation was a stroke of luck amidst the misfortune and dared not ask for more. She nodded solemnly and thanked the doctor.
Wen Song Yan was transferred to an intensive care unit where family was not allowed to stay, only admitting visitors during specific hours of the day. Therefore, most of the people’s remaining was unnecessary. Zhou Yaxian, despite being unfit, insisted on staying. Wen Han did not force her to leave too strongly. After all, from her perspective, she couldn’t bear to leave even for a mont.
Lacking the energy to deal with the aftermath, Zhou Yaxian left everything to Wen Han. As Wen Han’s girlfriend, Su Mu stayed by his side to express gratitude and bid farewell to the guests, and in the end, only Ji Qing Luan and her brother, along with herself, remained. Perhaps because it was just family left, all of Wen Han’s weariness showed on his face. He looked utterly drained.
Su Mu wanted him to sit and rest for a while, but Wen Han shook his head,
"I’m fine. You should head back early too. Luckily, Shaoyuan and Qiqi are at Bishui Yuntian and still unaware of the situation here. If you have ti these next few days, please look after them more. I’m afraid I won’t be able to."
"I’ll stay here with you."
"No need." Wen Han looked at Su Mu and smiled faintly, "You’ve been busy for several days now and are very tired. There’s no need to keep vigil here with . Besides, we’re not allowed in the ward, and there’s not much we can do. My mother and I are staying just for peace of mind."
Su Mu wanted to say sothing, but Wen Han cut her off and turned to Ji Qing Luan, speaking calmly,
"Qing Luan, would you please take Su Mu ho?"
"Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she gets ho safely," Ji Qing Luan said to Wen Han. "You shouldn’t overexert yourself either. Find an empty ward to rest properly. You’ll be busy later, and you can’t collapse. You still have your mother to take care of; nothing else can go wrong."
Wen Han smiled,
"Rest assured."
He then turned to Su Mu, opened his arms, and gave her a gentle hug, "Alright, don’t worry about . Go rest, and co back tomorrow to keep company."
Su Mu knew that no matter what she said, Wen Han would not agree to let her stay, so she obediently left. She wanted to give him so advice, but it seed that Ji Qing Luan had already said everything that needed to be said. She simply smiled softly and said only,
"Rember to call if anything happens."
"Definitely," Wen Han said back with a smile. "Head back now."
At the hospital’s entrance, Ji Qing Luan prepared to say goodbye to Ji Qing Shan, but he unexpectedly said,
"I didn’t drive here, so you can give a lift, too."
Ji Qing Luan looked at him as if he was an alien creature, "What the hell are you up to? You live in the complete opposite direction from . If I were to drive you ho, I wouldn’t get any sleep tonight."
"In that case, let drive. I’ll drop you both off at your hos and then take your car back. Tomorrow, I’ll have my assistant return it to you."
Ji Qing Luan glanced at the entrance and noticed the absence of his car. Although not comprehending his brother’s motives, she nodded. Ji Qing Luan intended to drive herself, but Ji Qing Shan snatched the keys from her,
"You’ve been driving back from the mountains and haven’t rested all day, right? I don’t want to risk my life in your hands. I’ll drive."
Ji Qing Luan, happy to have soone else drive, said nothing more and simply pulled Su Mu into the back seat.
Perhaps because of the heaviness of the evening’s events, the ride back was silent, with no one speaking a word.
Ji Qing Luan’s apartnt was closer, so Ji Qing Shan drove her there first. Ji Qing Luan, with her eyes closed in the back seat, didn’t notice when the car stopped. She frowned slightly and did not get out,
"Drop Su Mu off first. You can drop off on your way back."
Ji Qing Shan smiled faintly,
"Are you worried I will do sothing to Wen Han’s woman?"
Ji Qing Luan didn’t respond, nor did she move, making her position clear. Yet surprisingly, Ji Qing Shan didn’t move either, and the atmosphere fell quiet. As an outsider, Su Mu felt awkward and wanted to say she could just take a taxi since it wasn’t far but dared not to. She had a feeling that her suggestion would be imdiately shut down by both of them.
She really didn’t know whom she had offended.
Ji Qing Luan was the first to break the silence, addressing Ji Qing Shan,
"I know you’re worried about , but my affairs are none of your business. The more you do this, the less happy I am. Can’t I live the life of a romantic in peace?"
Even if Su Mu was slow to catch on, she understood now. It was about a brother worrying for his sister and wanting to speak to a rival in love. After understanding, Su Mu sighed softly, but Ji Qing Shan showed no sign of compromise. Therefore, she had to speak up,
"Qing Luan, you go ahead."
"No," Ji Qing Luan looked at Su Mu determinedly, "I won’t leave you here alone."
With that, she opened the car door and, taking Su Mu with her, said,
"If he wants to wait here, he can. I’ll take a taxi and drop you ho."
Her decisive nature didn’t even leave Su Mu with a chance to speak. By the ti she could react, they were already sitting in a taxi. Su Mu watched Ji Qing Luan’s fuming deanor and smiled softly. Before she could say anything, Ji Qing Luan spoke up,
"I’m sorry. Actually, my brother ans no harm. His only fault is that he can’t help being nosy and can’t stand to see upset."
"I understand and can see that," Su Mu said with a light smile.
Ji Qing Luan regarded her,
"Can you also see that he’s dense in love? He can’t even sort out his own marriage but wants to stand up for . I’m too embarrassed to dash his hopes."
"But he does care about you and just wants to fight for your happiness. Don’t be angry," Su Mu advised.
Hearing this, Ji Qing Luan laughed bitterly,
"If happiness could be obtained by fighting for it, maybe Wen Han and I would already have kids."
