Su Mu had never imagined what it would look like to see Fu Shinian bustling around the kitchen in an apron one day, but the scene she never dreamt of suddenly appeared before her without warning. Wearing a pink and blue apron, he was tasting the soup for saltiness with a spoon in hand, and beside him stood a little impish spirit. Such a scene would warm anyone’s heart who saw it.

Su Mu was naturally no exception, so she stood there frozen for a few seconds. If Qiqi hadn’t noticed her and run over to call her, Su Mu’s contemplation might have lasted even longer.

Led by Qiqi to the dining room, Fu Shinian had just served the soup. When he saw Su Mu, he looked up and smiled slightly:

"After a busy day, co and eat."

Su Mu looked at the table full of delicious dishes, incredulously asking Fu Shinian:

"You made this?"

"Can’t I?"

"You never used to cook." Not even instant noodles.

Fu Shinian smiled slightly:

"In the past two years, I’ve been staying with the old lady in the old house. Since there wasn’t much else I could do, I thought about learning sothing. It seed nothing was quite right, but then I figured that cooking was a decent way to pass the ti. After all, I could cook for grandma and thought that, soday, I might have the chance to cook for our child, and for you."

Fu Shinian removed his apron and casually draped it over the back of a chair:

"Now I’ve realized the scene I once imagined, and it feels very different. I finally understand how you must have felt when you used to cook for ."

Su Mu didn’t know how to describe her feelings at the mont; the only word that seed to fit was complicated. She stood motionless until Qiqi tily tugged at her hand:

"Mu, don’t you like the dishes Fu Shinian made? But Qiqi rembers, they are your favorite, I told Fu Shinian to buy them."

On hearing this, Su Mu smiled faintly:

"No, I’ll go wash my hands, and then we can eat."

"Okay."

In the washroom, Su Mu’s emotions had mostly dissipated, and her mind was still occupied by Jiang Bei. Before entering, she had tried calling Jiang Bei again and got the sa answer: Su Mu couldn’t reach her and didn’t even know where she was or who she was with.

Distracted by these thoughts, she was slow to act, so she didn’t notice Fu Shinian at the doorway imdiately. Only when their eyes t in the mirror did she hasten, Fu Shinian’s gaze slowly shifting to her hands, watching the foam being rinsed clean, he smiled slightly:

"I just called Ji Nanfeng."

Su Mu looked up at him:

"Did he say where Jiang Bei is?"

Fu Shinian shook his head: "He’s also looking, but there’s no news yet."

Su Mu fell silent, dried her hands with a towel, and asked the question she had on the phone: "When did you find out?"

Fu Shinian was quiet, but it didn’t an Su Mu didn’t understand what it ant:

"He never cut off contact with other won, did he? Was his affection with Jiang Bei all an act?"

Su Mu beca more and more agitated. Fu Shinian felt that if the conversation continued, the effort he had put into the kitchen all evening would be wasted. He couldn’t help but curse Ji Nanfeng silently in his heart again, yet patiently tried to persuade Su Mu:

"Let’s put off Ji Nanfeng and Jiang Bei’s issue for a mont. Qiqi has been playing all afternoon and hasn’t eaten yet, she’s already hungry. Let’s eat first, then we can talk, okay?"

If it were just the two of them, Su Mu would naturally refuse. But considering Qiqi, she had to take it into account and could only nod faintly:

"Okay."

Because Su Mu was preoccupied, the atmosphere at the dining table was sowhat eerie. Fu Shinian and Qiqi both tacitly avoided disturbing her. Instead, Fu Shinian attended to Qiqi’s dining, and by the ti Su Mu noticed, Qiqi had already eaten most of her al, and Fu Shinian’s movents were not at all clumsy, as if he were experienced.

Sensing Su Mu’s gaze, Fu Shinian glanced at her and smiled faintly:

"You don’t have to be curious; the old lady’s condition has been no different from a child’s for three years. Haven’t I just been taking care of another Qiqi? So now, taking care of a real child isn’t difficult at all."

"Grandma’s health..."

"Is fine." Fu Shinian looked at her, "You don’t have to worry. After she regained consciousness, it took a while for her to respond well, but knowing about Qiqi’s existence, she seed to accept everything. Initially, I planned to take Qiqi to stay with her for a while for her health, but she didn’t agree. She said that would only make you hate even more."

Su Mu chuckled softly:

"Grandma understands better than you do."

Fu Shinian smiled and said no more.

The atmosphere of the al was quite good. Su Mu and Fu Shinian didn’t bring up the past, as if, as long as they didn’t ntion anything related to three years ago, they could actually get along quite well. Qiqi, being a sensible child, seed to know they had things to discuss. She only asked Su Mu to play gas with her for a while, and when Fu Shinian finished cleaning up in the kitchen and returned to the living room, she went off to bed on her own.

Su Mu wanted to accompany her, but Qiqi shook her head:

"No need, Mu. I’m already a big kid."

Su Mu smiled and did not insist. In many ways, Qiqi was actually very independent.

Fu Shinian had been sitting in the living room watching their mother-daughter interaction, always with a smile on his lips. Su Mu turned and caught his expression, stunned for a mont, but did not say anything, just said faintly:

"Now you can tell , what’s the deal with Ji Nanfeng and Jiang Bei, and when did you know?"

Fu Shinian sighed softly:

"Actually, I understand why Jiang Bei kept silent about this matter."

Su Mu frowned slightly: "What exactly did Ji Nanfeng do?"

"It’s not as bad as you think. Ji Nanfeng hasn’t always been in contact with those won. After marrying Jiang Bei, he did settle down for a while, wanting to have a good life with her. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have abandoned all his shady businesses. Wasn’t everything he did for Jiang Bei?"

"But he is fickle. It’s not easy to truly settle down after living such a raucous life, especially when those won, hoping to rise to the top, knew his preferences perfectly. So, marriage or not, Ji Nanfeng couldn’t always resist."
