Wen Songyan probably never expected his wife to undermine him, especially in front of Su Mu. He blushed instantly but couldn’t argue with Zhou Yaxian, only managing a light snort before he took Qiqi from Wen Han’s arms and went straight back into the room.
Su Mu had sensed the Wen Family’s attitude from the beginning, but even so, didn’t expect them to approve of him to such a degree. Not only Zhou Yaxian but even Wen Songyan valued him highly, which made Su Mu feel both flattered and undeserving.
Wen Han seed to guess what he was thinking and smiled slightly,
"You should trust their judgnt. They’ve been in the political arena for many years. If they can’t even see through a young miss like you, they shouldn’t be in the ga."
After Wen Songyan went inside, Zhou Yaxian’s gaze fell back on Su Mu, her smile growing even warr as she took Su Mu’s hand,
"What were you talking about?"
Su Mu smiled,
"Nothing much, just feeling a bit uneasy with such hospitality."
"Relax, relax, there’s nothing to be uneasy about. From now on, we are a family. There’s no need for formalities in one’s own ho."
Wen Han let them talk while he went to open the trunk and retrieve the gifts. Zhou Yaxian saw what was in Wen Han’s hands and instantly gave him a glare:
"I’ll deal with you later."
Worried she might really scold Wen Han, Su Mu quickly spoke up,
"Auntie Zhou, I bought these gifts in advance. Please don’t bla Wen Han. Besides, this is the first ti I have visited since Wen Han and I have been together. It would be inappropriate to co empty-handed."
"What’s appropriate or not? You agreeing to be with this kid makes happier than any gift. And we lack nothing at ho."
Zhou Yaxian pulled Su Mu’s hand and headed inside, completely ignoring Wen Han behind them, though Wen Han himself had a smile on his face despite being snubbed by his mother. It reminded him of when Su Mu had said that he should just let his mother scold him, yet here he was still being cared for.
Inside, Qiqi and Shaoyuan were already playing together, and Su Mu, seeing their spirits lifted, felt at ease and went directly to the kitchen to help Zhou Yaxian cook. But no sooner had he stepped into the kitchen than Zhou Yaxian stopped him, "What are you doing in here? Get out, you’re not needed."
Su Mu insisted, but before he could speak, Zhou Yaxian cut him off,
"I let you be with Wen Han so you wouldn’t have to cook for us. Even I rarely step into the kitchen, let alone you. Listen to and don’t co in. After you two get married, you shouldn’t either. Wen Han is a good cook, let him cook for you."
She then pushed Su Mu out of the kitchen. With no other option, Su Mu went to the living room to chat with Wen Songyan. However, sensing that his presence might be getting in the way of the youngsters, Wen Songyan reluctantly rose from the sofa after Zhou Yaxian, who had been standing intentionally or unintentionally at the kitchen entrance, coughed a few tis:
"Alright, I have so official business to deal with, you chat first."
He got up from the sofa and walked upstairs. Su Mu and Wen Han exchanged a silent laugh.
Dinner was a couple of hours later. When Zhou Yaxian ca upstairs to call them, Su Mu was in the study with Wen Han looking at his military dals. Wen Han narrated the story behind each one, while Su Mu listened intently. Zhou Yaxian, however, was not pleased to see them discussing such a bloody topic,
"Don’t talk to Su Mu about these violent things. What girl wants to hear that? I’m really starting to doubt if you’re my son. How can you lack such emotional intelligence?"
Wen Han: "..."
Zhou Yaxian ca over and gently took Su Mu’s arm:
"Su Mu, it’s not too late to back out. We are both won, so I understand how painful it is to spend your life with a man with no sense of romance. Wen Han’s father was like that, so think it over."
"Mom!" Wen Han protested unhappily, "The wife I’ve finally brought ho, you don’t have to give credit, but why are you always undermining ?"
Upon hearing this, Su Mu looked at Wen Han, not sure why he suddenly referred to her as ’wife’, her face reddening slightly. Wen Han, aware of his slip due to Su Mu’s gaze, didn’t know how to explain in front of his mother at that mont.
Zhou Yaxian smiled slightly,
"I’m not undermining you. I’m telling the truth. If it were another girl, I might have let it go, but I really like Su Mu. I need to tell her everything clearly, so she won’t feel deceived and know nothing about you."
Su Mu could feel that since her relationship with Wen Han had been confird, Zhou Yaxian’s attitude toward her had beco much more friendly. Whether it was previous cautiousness or now deliberately showing her approval, Su Mu was simply delighted,
"Auntie Zhou, rest assured, I know what Wen Han is like, and I’m very confident."
Zhou Yaxian smiled with satisfaction,
"Good, as long as you know. My son, I dare not claim much, but he definitely won’t mistreat a woman. If he ever treats you badly, just co to , and I’ll teach him a lesson."
Su Mu nodded, laughing lightly,
"Okay."
Wen Han: "..."
Although the words might have seed frustrating, why was his heart filled with happiness?
Just as they had sat down in the dining room and Wen Songyan was clearing his throat, presumably to say sothing, the doorbell rang. Auntie Li ca out from the kitchen, looked confused for a mont, then hurried to the door. Not long after, Ji Qingluan appeared in the living room. Seeing the family seated at the dining table ready to eat, she paused,
"It seems I’ve co at an inconvenient ti."
Ji Qingluan had seen Su Mu dining with the Wen family before, but this ti it was clearly different. She could feel that her arrival was ill-tid, especially Zhou Yaxian’s embarrassed expression made her feel sowhat awkward.
Knowing Ji Qingluan’s feelings towards Wen Han, Su Mu also felt awkward about her presence. But considering her current relationship status, she really didn’t know what to say and remained silent. Finally, Zhou Yaxian broke the silence,
"Qingluan’s here? Co on, we were just about to have dinner. Join us."
Ji Qingluan regained her composure and smiled, "No, thank you, I didn’t co for anything special. Just hadn’t seen Uncle and Auntie for a while and happened to have ti today. Since you are having dinner, I’ll just go back now."
