That was the first ti Shi Lihua considered divorce. She was tired of the tornt, tired of seeking revenge; all she wanted was to be by Yu Zhiyuan’s side. But reality didn’t permit this because Yu Zhiyuan had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Shi Lihua’s presence couldn’t help him. So she neither divorced nor indulged in affairs anymore; she began to regain her forr focus and diligence, using the Fu family’s money to set up a laboratory dedicated to researching this disease.

She knew that this illness was one of the five most incurable diseases in the world, and she was aware that it was impossible for her alone to conquer it. She didn’t harbor unrealistic hopes; she rely wished to develop a drug, one that could delay death. She just hoped that Yu Zhiyuan could spend more ti with her, to make up for what was lacking in their relationship, at least until their child had grown up a bit more.

During that period, Shi Lihua lived in the lab, conducting various experints like a madwoman. This state of affairs continued for nearly five years until, at last, heaven rewarded the devoted. She and her team achieved a minor breakthrough. Even though the dication had side effects, it was much better than death.

However, Yu Zhiyuan didn’t live to see Shi Lihua’s success. On the eve of the drug’s discovery, he passed away quietly in his bed, only to be discovered by his son, Yu Qingzhou, the next day.

Not long after, Fu Jingxun also died unexpectedly. Shi Lihua then took a large sum of money and left the Fu family, disappearing without a trace.

That year, Fu Shinian was 17 years old. The only impression Shi Lihua left him with was one of indifference and hatred for everything related to the Fu family. When she returned suddenly three years ago, they hadn’t seen each other for nearly 12 years.

"So the purpose of your return isn’t just to seek a lifeline for Yu Qingzhou’s company but also to avenge the past?" Fu Shinian looked at the woman before him, "But I am quite perplexed. Between you and the Fu family, who really owes whom?"

"Of course, it’s the Fu family that owes . If it weren’t for Fu Jingxun, how could I have been drugged and caught in bed with the man I loved, or driven to my wits’ end to harm Zhiyuan’s life in vain, not to ntion giving birth to you? All of this, it’s all the Fu family’s fault."

Fu Shinian shook his head helplessly at Shi Lihua’s argunt, but he didn’t quibble with her on this point. Instead, he asked a question that had puzzled him for many years, saying:

"My father, was it you who killed him?"

Shi Lihua smiled at Fu Shinian’s words, nodding without surprise:

"Yes, it was . I am a pharmacist. He couldn’t detect a trace of the slow-acting poison I put in his food, and even if he died, the forensic scientist wouldn’t find anything. Initially, I didn’t intend for him to die so quickly, but after the man I loved most left, his life had no aning to , so I increased the dosage in his food, causing him to be disoriented, get into a car accident, fall into the river, and drown."

Fu Shinian looked at her coldly, just as he expected. When his father died, he had his suspicions, but this woman had fled faster than smoke, and by the ti he thought to investigate, it was too late, and the old lady wouldn’t allow it, probably feeling that when people die, they return to dust, and it all loses its aning, right?

But Fu Shinian’s heart could never let go. Although Shi Lihua never fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother, Fu Jingxun had never wronged him in any way.

"Even if my father liked you, from beginning to end, he never did anything to wrong you. When you were drugged, my father was a victim too. He punished those people severely afterwards and proposed marriage to restore your honor, which was not unreasonable. You could have just refused. As for your parents coercing you and forcing you with threats of death, what does that have to do with my father?"

"He is the cause!" Shi Lihua glared at him fiercely, "Without that cause, how would all that followed have happened?"

Fu Shinian let out a wry laugh:

"The cause? He only liked you, and because he liked you, my father was extrely accommodating to you for many years. Didn’t all he did earn even a bit of affection from you? Even if your hatred for him was the cause of it all, he paid the price he owed. In the end, why push him to his death? Was the tornt you inflicted on him for all these years not enough?"

"Not enough, of course, it’s not enough! I admit, Fu Jingxun was good to , but he was only good because he owed , because he felt guilty! Even if he was kind to , considerate, and provided a good life for , that wasn’t what I wanted. Zhiyuan’s life of disability demanded his responsibility, and my life of tornt should be his to answer for too, along with Zhiyuan’s parents, his ex-wife, his son—all should be Fu Jingxun’s responsibility! He is the chief culprit."

Such stubborn views seed impossible to clarify no matter what Fu Shinian said, so he gave up on wasting words and didn’t continue with the pointlessness:

"Even if my father should take responsibility, you killed him. Now what? You’ve been wanting to take revenge on and the Fu family for not just a day or two, right? 6 years ago, you made contact with Qin Nianwan, didn’t you? Doesn’t my father’s death quench the rage in your heart?"

"You think I don’t want to? I don’t want to live the rest of my days in peace? But Zhiyuan’s gone, I’m left alone. Do you know what it’s like to be alone? My life has been a tragedy, I’m struggling to pull through the remainder of my life, so why should you get to enjoy the joy of family? Everyone should be the sa, that would be fair."

Shi Lihua looked at him with a faint smile:

"Yes, you’re not wrong, I took the initiative to contact Qin Nianwan. I don’t know if I should call you naive, or say you and your dad are the sa—willing to believe only what you see. You actually fell for that swindler, Qin Nianwan. I just took a hold of her little past indiscretions and made her obediently tell everything about you and the Fu family."

Fu Shinian chuckled lightly upon hearing this, "But how can you be certain that what you know, isn’t what I deliberately let Qin Nianwan tell you through her mouth?"

Shi Lihua narrowed her eyes slightly as she looked at him, not speaking. Fu Shinian then lost the interest to continue talking. From now on, all the chain reactions would play out in front of Shi Lihua, and he’d just wait obediently—wait for her ending, wait for everything to finish.

Fu Shinian had lost the will to speak and was about to leave when Shi Lihua suddenly stopped him:

"Fu Shinian, let the old lady hand over the goods and I can give you the dicine to save your life."

"You drained my company for soone else’s son, wanted dead, and now, for soone else’s son, you can spare ." Fu Shinian laughed coldly but did not turn back, "There’s nothing more ironic in this world than this."

To Fu Shinian, the word ’mother’ held no significance, but even so, he never imagined that one day he would be confronted by his own mother, standing at the opposite ends of a life-and-death struggle. He had accepted her lack of love and disdain, and now he had to accept the fact that she wanted him dead for soone else.

"I’m not joking. Give what I want, and I’ll give you the dicine."

"You might as well let die."

After speaking these words indifferently, Fu Shinian left on his own. He had too many things to do and no ti to waste here with her.
