Su Mu arrived at the guest room just as Qiao Yu was administering an IV drip to Fu Shinian, she glanced with low spirits and asked,
"Is it serious?"
"It’s nothing," Qiao Yu responded indifferently, "Actually, he would recover in a couple of days without the IV, but since you are worried, it’s okay to administer it."
Su Mu nodded and said nothing more. Fu Shinian quickly noticed her unease and asked,
"What’s the matter?"
Su Mu shook her head slightly:
"I was sorting through my mother’s belongings just now and found a bank card. I checked the balance, and there was 20 million in it, but I have no idea what it’s all about."
As Su Mu finished speaking, Qiao Yu’s hand, which was inserting the needle, suddenly trembled and missed the spot, raising a small bead of blood on the back of the hand. Fu Shinian felt nothing in particular but gave Qiao Yu a warning look.
Qiao Yu cald his emotions and joked:
"Su Mu, don’t doubt my technique. I did that on purpose, just to vent your anger."
Su Mu frowned and looked at him:
"You better focus on the injection."
"Alright, I know you care."
"Not really," Su Mu corrected, "It’s just that the later you administer it, the longer I have to wait."
Qiao Yu couldn’t possibly wait until Fu Shinian finished the drip, Su Shiyue was even less reliable, and as for Auntie Wang and Grandma, they were out of the question. It seed she was the only one left in the old mansion capable of helping with the IV.
Qiao Yu couldn’t help but laugh:
"That was my fault."
It was not until their conversation ca to a pause that Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu and said,
"There should be a statent for the 20 million. Did you check it?"
Qiao Yu frowned slightly, stealing a glance at Fu Shinian, not understanding why he would bring this up again, but on second thought, it seed inevitable. Since Su Mu had already discovered the money, she would certainly investigate and just pray that the source couldn’t be traced.
"I checked," Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian, "It was from my father’s account before his death, which is now deactivated. To inquire further, I have to go to the bank, but it’s been quite a while and my father has passed away. It might be inconvenient and I am not sure if the bank still retains those records. I plan to go check tomorrow."
"Tomorrow is only the third day of the New Year, and even if the bank is open, it’s unlikely they can retrieve records that old. Better wait until work resus on the sixth."
Su Mu hadn’t considered this, but what Fu Shinian said made sense:
"Okay, I understand."
The night was busy for Fu Shinian. Qiao Yu had not been gone long when Song Yi arrived. It was only the second day of the New Year, yet Song Yi’s rushed deanor seed like sothing significant had happened. However, seeing Su Mu present, he held back whatever urgent matter he needed to discuss.
Seeing this, Su Mu stood up:
"I’ll go back to my room; call if you need anything."
"Alright."
After Su Mu left, Song Yi took a few steps forward and spoke softly:
"Qin Nianwan... is dead."
Fu Shinian frowned, "When did this happen?"
"Her body was found at the edge of the Shencheng River. When it was pulled out of the water, it was so bloated that her features were unrecognizable. The police concluded that she had been in the water for almost a week."
"If her features were unclear, how could they be sure it was Qin Nianwan?"
"Personal identification," Song Yi said, "She had a bag with her that contained all her identification docunts. I didn’t inform you right away because I wanted to wait for the DNA comparison results from the police."
"Have the results co out now? Are you sure it’s her?"
Song Yi nodded, "Yes, the police will post an announcent online today."
"So the conclusion is also out, suicide?"
"Yes, there were no external injuries on the body, she died by drowning, and considering the information she had posted online before, depression-driven suicide seems both plausible and widely acceptable."
Fu Shinian was silent for a long ti, deep in thought, then he asked Song Yi a question:
"Would a person committing suicide carry their identification with them? Even if they did, even if it was an unconscious act to carry their bag and commit suicide, what kind of carrying thod would allow her identification to remain by her side after being in the river for almost a week without being washed away by the river water?"
Song Yi wasn’t surprised by this statent, for he too believed that Qin Nianwan would not commit suicide.
"Should we continue the investigation?"
"Just keep an eye on it; there’s nothing much to find." After all, the police had already closed the case.
"Yes."
Fu Shinian paused for a few seconds: "What about Song Zhengxian?"
"There are four days left until the funds need to be transferred, but there has been no movent so far." Song Yi glanced at Fu Shinian. "However, these last two days of monitoring Song Zhengxian have revealed sothing else."
"Hmm?"
"Back then, when Qin Nianwan had that child, it was a girl, who is now in Country H, raised by Song Zhengxian. Qin Nianwan listened to him all because of her daughter," Song Yi said with a light smile. "After enduring so much, she really wouldn’t have reason to throw herself into the Shencheng River over the stuff online, especially since she still has her daughter."
Fu Shinian responded lightly:
"If my guess is correct, Song Zhengxian will probably make a move within these two days. If he doesn’t return to the country, that’s fine, but as soon as he does, have soone tail him imdiately."
"Yes."
After reporting, Song Yi prepared to leave, but Fu Shinian stopped him:
"Go to the bank tomorrow and take care of sothing for ."
The issue of 20 million, Su Mu would eventually find out, but it absolutely cannot be now.
After Song Yi left, Fu Shinian contemplated for a long ti. He was so absorbed in thought that he didn’t even notice Su Mu entering the room until she called him twice to bring him back to reality:
"What are you thinking about?"
Fu Shinian smiled slightly:
"Nothing much. Song Yi ntioned there’s a banquet in two days, and I was thinking about taking you with ."
"?"
Fu Shinian nodded.
Su Mu was surprised, as they had been married for two years and Fu Shinian had never taken her to any public events. There were plenty of female companions around him, with any picked from the public relations departnt easily being a gem. Why would he need her? Now, this might be an indirect way to acknowledge her status, but Su Mu was not in the mood to attend.
"I don’t want to go."
"Why?"
"I don’t like such events, nor am I used to socializing with strangers."
Fu Shinian smiled slightly:
"We’ll see when the ti cos."
Su Mu didn’t say anything more, took the book in her hand, and walked directly to the sofa by the floor-to-ceiling window to sit down. She could have waited in her own room, but was always uneasy, worried that he might forget to check on the IV drip, so she simply ca over.
Therefore, she was even more convinced that it wasn’t her overthinking; it was really that this guest room was much colder than the other rooms. She couldn’t help but wrap her arms around herself and rub her arms, hesitating whether to go back to her room to get a piece of clothing when Fu Shinian suddenly patted the space next to him:
"Co onto the bed and look."
